LITTLE big Campaign - over 9k Conversions - 2k in Profit - Tiny GEO

Time period: December 2018 – March 2019
GEO: Palestine
Vertical: Sweepstakes
Traffic source: PropellerAds
Affiliate network: ClickDealer
Traffic type: Pops
Spent: $1,178.00
Revenue: $3,213.00
Profit: $2,035.00

This is going to be long one but I wanted to make this case study somewhat different and more focused
towards those STM members who are overthinking stuff, procrastinating and are stuck in reading loop.

Bare with me

Why did I choose this campaign for case study?

Well reading through follow alongs last few days I have noticed that few of you guys are already on a
good road to make this thing happen. Congratulations to you guys, you are already doing great job and
I can only say that I'm really proud on you.

But.

I also wanted to try to stimulate other members as well, members who are lurking on forum and maybe feeling intimidated,
stuck in analysis paralysis or for whatever reason it might be… to come outside from the shadows and to make follow along.

By joining STM forum, you already did one huge step. You made very wise and informed decision,
now it's time to go even further and use this awesome community to your advantage.

This case study is dedicated to you.

To all members that are lurking on forum, feeling daunted by reading other peoples success stories or
thinking that maybe someone will make fun of you.

I also wanted to do it for myself because not that long time ago I was one of you.

I was embarrassed to start follow along and I was afraid to step out and rather stay in my own world,
just passively reading.

Let me tell you this. I took harder way and I've learned that things will never going to be perfect.

And that they doesn't have to be perfect. There is no such thing as perfect moment to start.

So please don't be like me and make follow along

I promise you, you will get awesome support, you won't regret it and you will be in best hands 🙏

And if you still thinking should you do it or not, please feel free to pm me I would be glad if I can talk to
you, to get through this phase and help you to set off on a journey.

You don’t have to be alone in this.

All right, finally onto the Case study.

I'm sorry for this long intro but it was just something that was important for me to say.

As I said in the beginning by reading follow alongs I remember one perfect example of how one rather
small campaign that I had about year ago, can turn into something stable and maybe it can serve as a
motivation for all of you guys who are waiting for things to be perfect and to finally – JUST START.

Right now at this moment while you reading this, this can work both with pops as well on push and many
other sources so take advantage of it and take action.

Just to note, I didn't pick this country for no reason and this wasn't random pick by accident, looking for
unsaturated GEOs or traffic sources is something that become my speciality over time.

There is no reason it couldn't be yours too.

Once I got top offer report for verticals that I'm interested in I sort them out out by highest EPC
and then I take a look does anything sticks out, maybe some specific GEO.

Then I found out several countries all from GCC GEO and that they perform very well for some other
affiliates as well few other Arabian countries. Then guided by this insight I came across few offers for
Palestine and I thought that maybe this could be good testing ground for my further operations.

After that I talked with my AM and after he confirmed that there is very few affiliates that run over there
although that GEO is performing very well for my vertical - I decided that I should give it a shot.

I went to the AdPlexity and spy a little bit but unfortunately I didn't find Palestine, since it's such a small
GEO with population of only 4.8 million people and complex political situation I wasn't surprised at all
it's just wasn't interesting enough. Perfect.

While other affiliates wage wars in big GEOs, English speaking areas I will just mind my own business
and do it totally opposite. Not following the herd.

I also noticed few lander types that keeps repeating in neighbouring countries and that give me an idea of
what might work in Palestine, at least it was some starting point what kind of LPs I should split test first.

After I prepared few landing pages and done technical stuff I created campaign on PropellerAds and
scheduled test to start at 17:00 h Palestine local time.

Bid: SmartCPM - 0.50$
Target: both Wifi + Carriers

First few days nothing huge was happening I just let traffic to get in and I was collecting data, I only
black listed worst placements and wait to have enough data to choose best landing page.
This pre-lander was showing as my best performing.

This isn't exact lander that I initialy test but also it wasn't much different in terms of design.

Big change in campaign performance was that I made proper translation on lander and that single change
is what took off my campaign into green immediately.

It wasn't much, just a couple of bucks but I also didn't have a lot of inventory to work with.

I didn't touch anything, I was doing what I always do when I test new GEO.

I was letting traffic to get in and made minor tweeks by cutting off only worst placements.

Once the campaign has stabilized I knew I had decent funnel and next step was to create two more
campaigns, with same black list of placements, one with lower bid and other one with max bid just so I
don't get into bidding war against my self.

Also I found two more offers and redirected small portion of traffic to them just to see which one is
performing better.

Average day:

And that was pretty much it!

Campaign lasted almost 3 months with over 9k conversions and payout was only 0.24$.

So you might want to think that's a lot of work for just a few bucks and yes, it's wasn't 5k or 10k/day
campaign but now just try to imagine that amount of conversions multiplied with better paying offer.

Yeah that's right. That's a lot of money.

In the meantime I tried to scale on Jordan but I couldn't find similar offers at that time.

But Jordan is whole nother story

Also my attempt to scale on ExoClick and couple of other sources wasn't successful either I was breaking
even over there for a week or so and then finally decided to just let it go and focus on something else,
much more interesting.

To wrap it up.

It's 2020 and things are different now than they used to be few years ago, you won't have 5k/day
campaign right of the bat at least not for a first 6 months or maybe even longer, sure maybe you
will hit something big but in reality chances for that are slim and you most probably won't.
So you should adapt in order to survive, it's a matter of evolution in affiliate marketing world
and in general.

In the beginning patience plays the biggest role. Just push yourself and keep going, as the time
goes by you will be better and faster. And you will develop sense for opportunities.

no matter how tiny it is.

Because of the nature of pop traffic and competitiveness in Tier 1 GEOs - campaigns tend to last shorter
and you often need to scale fast, which could be very challenging especially when you just starting your journey.

Remember, you will want to get experience on a smaller scale first, at least until you figure out how to
build your campaigns properly. Then once you figure out, this experience will be easy transferable later
when you decide to switch and run campaigns in Tier 1 GEOs or to some other sources. Plus your
mistakes will be very cheap and you will learn more for less money

It will also boost your confidence and increase motivation.

Beside optimization don't half ass your translations and details on landers, take care that your
translations are accurate and CTA is tuned to offer page (explain well to users, tell them exactly what
they need to do).

I know it's time consuming but you have Lander requests thread, use it for your own good.
https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...equests-Thread

In this age and time you can't use Google translate, it's just not good enough anymore.

Just like us, people in Tier2 and Tier3 countries are bombarded with ads on their smartphones each and
every day and they are most likely sensitive to broken language.

I live in a tiny country and I can confirm that, I see ads on a daily basis on my native language and 9/10
ads are just poorly translated and then your battle is lost before even it began.

Grab VPN and go through your funnel, take a good look at the offer page and translate so you can
better understand and figure out your angle and flow.

I know it's tempting to change things on the fly, but please DON'T do that

That was it, thank you for reading.

Please be gentle as this was directed mostly towards people who are reading Amy's 40-Day Tutorial and
$1 Guide and maybe hesitant to make their first step in front of the spotlights for whatever reason they have.

Thanks for sharing this my man!

Palestine? That would be like the last GEO I'd target ... which just nicely demonstrates how important it is to chose your own path and follow it.

Great going man, great going!

02-17-2020 09:43 PM #3 ivan the terrible (Member)

Thank you my man, it means to me so much

There's a lot of opportunities in smaller countries but they are just not interesting enough for most affiliates and often they are underrated.

But often they are also unsaturated and of course big issue comes when you can't find decent offers for those smaller GEOs, but if you follow your guts and advertisers, you can find it

I can't stress enough how important is to newcomers to first learn the game making technically correct camps.

This is a fantastic case study!

I think everyone can learn from this, not just newcomers. 2k in profit is 2k in profit. I had to lose about 8k before even making that much.

Not to mention the amount of work, plus ad spend, is a lot lower than trying to make Tier 1, 2, (even some 3) work right off the bat.

Looking at your stats, a lot less stressful too

Now excuse me, while I go and saturate Palestine

02-18-2020 10:32 AM #5 ivan the terrible (Member)

Now excuse me, while I go and saturate Palestine
Also take a look at other Arab countries for example Saudi Arabia has a lot of traffic, it's just a hint and something that can be applied in some other GEOs as well.

I think everyone can learn from this, not just newcomers.

Thanks for your kind words @jaybot

I always regretted that I didn't make FA when I started out, so this was intended toward newcomers as a encouragement to do so.

With the help of this awesome, friendly community and super helpful mods, things can be so much easier.

Thanks dude, great case study.

That show that small Geo + low payout can work good when the offer converts.

And it´s also a perfect example why beginners should start in such low Tier environments -> No competition.

As jaybot said,

I think everyone can learn from this, not just newcomers. 2k in profit is 2k in profit.
Thanks for posting it, hopefully it can be a little motivation boost for other beginners as well

Thanks for posting this. Helps me out a lot and motivates me after seeing so much red in my Voluum Stats the past few days!

Since it is such a small geo, did you find that people developed banner blindess from seeing your lander over and over again?

Did you rotate any landers or just stuck with this giftbox one from start to finish?

And thank you for the post! Much appreciated!

Thank you my man, after all I didn't wanted all of this to sound pretentious and I hope it's not because - it isn't.

But my goal with this was, if I could help just one person or motivate someone 1% - then i will be happy.

Cause I went through all this two years ago.

Did you rotate any landers or just stuck with this giftbox one from start to finish?
Couple of versions of gift box style, but it wasn't about that, one single most important thing is that offer was good.

Thanks for reading it

Oh, man I love these weird/obscure geos so much!

Thanks for sharing this case study.

This should end up in the newsletter @vortex!

Thanks Eric <3

Yes, this isn't going to work always but it can serve as an example in which direction to think for somebody who's just starting out and learning first steps.

In small GEO you have better damage control if somethings go wrong.

I'm happy that you could make it work.. Congrats man and thanks for the motivation!

Shokran sadikee

Actually I speak Arabic and never tried an arabic speaking country before..

Well my friend, maybe you should try it out sometimes.

I'm happy that you could make it work.. Congrats man and thanks for the motivation!

That was my only goal. I'm so glad you liked it and maybe give you an idea or two, since you already speak Arabic.

Having said that, to edit LP and change text on Arabic was quite a mess for me

It took me much more time than I expected until I figured out that I should use:

dir='rtl' and lang='ar' in order for text to look right when an HTML page is displayed haha.

Also that "gulf" countries have their own kind of Arabic, which makes perfect sense when you think about it.

Very inspiring. This is exactly what I need to do. Find easier targets and learn without the big risks of competitive GEOs. Learned a lot from this case study!

Thanks @ivan the terrible

Thanks a lot Gav, I really appreciate that.

There's a lot of room for opportunities in eastern European countries as well.

I think it doesn't cost too much to spend some time and to research a bit, to send an email to your traffic source and ask around for verticals and countries that does perform well,
to talk to your AMs, look on the traffic charts and top offer reports in order to find opportunities.

Not always this campaigns is going to work I think you all are very well aware of that but it's just something worth to look at.

In the end nothing is 100% for sure, unless you test. If you have an idea - don't be afraid to test that idea. Data will tell.

Hi Ivan,

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful case study.

Can I ask how long does it take for you to see consistent green campaigns from a newbie?

I'm also a newbie and most of the time I felt so puzzled about choosing the right offers and get the proper lander. In the last few months, I've never seen a green campaign.

Thanks.

Hi ivan,
Just want to ask why did the campaign end? Was the offer pulled that's why you have to stop the campaign?
