Selling musical instruments and gear

Hello,

I'm looking for ideas and suggestions. I have a small but successful website in the guitar learning niche.

I'm doing good promoting affiliate guitar lessons, but because there are tons of free content on Youtube and the like, I'm not able to monetize most of my audience.

So I'm pondering to switch to promote musical instruments and gear. I'm already affiliated to some online shops.

What are the best practices and things to do/not to do when promoting physical items?

Thanks a lot!

Very cool man!

Are you planning on trying to rank for seo keywords and do the Amazon affiliate route?

That seems to be the most common...

I'm sure there's some higher-paying affiliate offers that would give you a higher epc in that space you can find somewhere or other but not sure where...

Or are you thinking of selling your own items via dropshipping?

What are the top 'competitors' similar to you doing for monetization?

If I remember right there's a few 'guitar tabs' or 'learn guitar' type sites in Revcontent's inventory, but I think those ones are heavy traffic/low-value traffic type sites where folks are just landing there looking for guitar tabs really quick and that sort of thing, whereas if you have visitors actively looking to buy things or invest in their guitar-playing I'd think there must be a better route than just going with ads (at least by themselves).

SEO keywords for sure, but I don't like the terms of Amazon affiliate program. There are some interesting offers on Shareasale and CJ, mostly online shops that sell gear, I've been approved by some of them.

I don't want to sell via dropshipping, I've put my face on that site and I want to provide only high-quality stuff. So doing reviews of gear could be a way to make some money, but also I'm trying to obtain some exclusive coupons from the merchants, so I my users would have a reason in buying via my links.

I'll check Revcontent out, thanks for the tip; My visitors are on my site to learn something new, or reading reviews, I expect them to be a bit focused and not in a hurry, at least I hope :-)

Basically it's a 100% white-hat site :-)

This is your best bet I would say, reviews can work REALLY well... Try to search around and find some review sites in your niche and just do what they are doing but better. Maybe most do text reviews... make some videos. Maybe they miss searchable DBs, build some.

There is also a ton of accessories for guitar players, review those too.

Comparison lists also do very well ... so best guitar under $250 for example, best guitars for noobies, best guitars for metal music etc ...

You could also write a lot of content to rank for some realted KWs ... history, best guitar players, something about rock bands etc ...

but also I'm trying to obtain some exclusive coupons from the merchants,
Great idea again, discount coupons are always a great incentive. Build an email list and then send them these special offers.

There is a lot you could do, but expect this to take some time, building a site like this isnt easy

I know Bax shop is an autority when it comes to music/gear related stuff. They have an affiliate program too, not sure if it's relevant to your geo!

Yes! I'm a software engineer turned to Internet Marketing, in the past I've worked with Keepa and analyzed tons of Amazon reviews, maybe I could build something on the top of that and create a buyer's guide that relies on those reviews, something that distills what to buy from a huge amount of unstructured information.

This is it indeed, there is so much instruments and gear out there and unless you are super experienced, you simply don't know what to buy.

I know it firsthand, when it comes to your niche, since one of my sons plays a guitar, he started about a year and a half ago and it was a major pain in the ass to actually decide what to buy for him... what he actually needs, what are just unnecessary things that he can do without. Then, even once we knew that he wanted a guitar that is right for rock/metal, there are several brands out there, each of them with various product lines... it was a mess and we did the wrong buy at first, actually twice. You'd think that epiphone and fender build quality products only, well nope Then the combo, based on the guides we found, we decided to buy a tube combo, but fuck, there are so many of them again

If you could somehow bring the info together in some organized way, then write a few articles that would take the potential buyers step by step through the decision making process... that should work for sure
