A Little Hack For The FB Newbies.

Call it just a little tease to tickle your creative parts of the brain.

Let’s say you are planning to promote a sweepstake offer, uhm a one-year of free Netflix membership-voucher.

Logically your first thought would be let’s target all people who liked Netflix”. Pretty on point, agreedo!?

But you face 3 challenges going this road;

1. heavy competition. affiliates are lazy and most will start with this interest. this means you battle against a lot of similar ads.
2. duplicates/high dissapproval rate. since you are fishing in the same pond as others, big chance the leads you are bringing are worthless for the advertiser. they probably already appear in their current database.
3. complaints. people will get annoyed seeing so many “scammy” angles. they comment, give bad ratings, hit the spam button etc etc

So how we gonna solve that?

People with a Netflix account probably also liked facebook pages of Breaking Bad, Le Casa de Papel and their actors etc. They have huge pages I can tell.

Put those in your interest now. And exclude the netflix interest perhaps? Less competition, plus less exhausted probably. You can even adjust angles/images/landers on serie-based in this case.

Netflix still relevant so conversion wise you should be oke. Also the advertiser will face less duplicates probably since you are touching an audience which has not been bombed yet with sweeps.

My point: think further young padawans and you will be rewarded with lower cost!

This can be used for all kinds of niches ofcourse: ecomm, nutra, dating etc...

I used this back in the days for my SEA and SEO projects too, kinda similar.

Bid and optimize on longtail keywords to avoid heavy competition (who are focussing often on top keywords). It took a bit more patience but pulled off nicely!

How much does the cost of a click increase?

I don't have actual comparisons honestly. I stopped with that since so many factors influence cpc/ctr's. Timing/account quality/audience quality etc etc. BUT, because of this "trick" I was able to make my first 100% ROI on dating (testing some other verticals now and then, for fun).

I didnt target single men, or other relation/dating/love stuff. I targeted for example all men between 35-60, who liked FC Barcelona. We put together an ad/prelander/offer page with a woman wearing a FC Barcelona shirt and teasing a bit "Who wants to watch FC Barcelona with me on the couch?" Nothing too sexy, just a bit more GFE.

It worked, but it's not the main focus now internally but we might pick it up again!

Dropping knowledge bombs OP . Very good tips and quite versatile too. Sometimes all it takes is a lil bit of creativity and your campaigns will shoot through the roof in terms of ROI and profits.
