Q on email mrketing 'compliance' in UK or other non-US geo's

Hey ya'll-

I'm hoping some of you hard-hitting email veterans can share some knowledge with me...

I feel reasonably well-educated on email marketing in the US, and what to do and what not to do, in terms of basic best practices and in terms of compliance with laws, etc.

I am interested in possibly starting email marketing in a couple non-US geo's though, especially the UK- but I've heard that compliance is somewhat stricter in the UK/Europe? Is this accurate? If so, what needs to be done differently than in the US when collecting emails/sending emails/etc?

FWIW, I'm talking about 100% 'whitehat' email marketing, likely with a double opt-in, very easy to unsubscribe, no offers in emails only links to website pages that then contain the affiliate link, etc.

Any info/perspective/expertise on the subject would be extremely welcome! I tried searching on google but it was tough to find any good info.

Thanks!

If it's 100% whitehat and the data is all double opt-in I think you shouldn't worry in any geos for that matter.

Let's not forget the GDPR crap, that's the major difference to my understanding. You gotta collect the consent upon subscription and fully respect it ... or you might face serious trouble in the future. Truth to be told, not many have been hit by this law YET, but you never know and since you plan to play it WH, you can also do it in a fully compliant way

So double-optin + GDPR and you should be safe. A bit more caution should be executed when mailing adult stuff, some GEOs like Germany have some extra rules on this.
