I have a site that I've been working on for a few months that I feel is very close to cracking the first page of google in a non English speaking GEO for a keyword that has a search volume of 49,500. If I am able to crack the top 3 spots, what type of income could i expect from this? The keyword is a translation of "how to lose weight quickly". I'm pushing weight loss offers, obviously.. I realize there are tons of variables, but assuming averages would should I expect? Anyone with knowledge of the weight loss niche? I've been doing SEO for awhile, but recently got into affiliate and yet to make any significant income. Thanks!
Hi, lushlemur
I don't have experience with the weight loss niche but I do have a little experience with SEO.
I suppose how much you'll earn depends on how you'll monetize the visitors that you'll get to your website. I only know about ads, not affiliate offers.
If you want to monetize you site by allowing an ad network to place banners on your website (Like https://www.ezoic.com/ or https://www.mediavine.com/). Then it can be anywhere from $10-25 dollars per thousand impressions for mainly english speaking / tier 1 GEOs. Less for non-english speaking visitors (Sorry, I don't know how much less).
The amount you'll get paid depends on how valuable they think your traffic is, rate you negotiate etc. They might even reject your application if they think your site is spammy or doesn't fit with their advertisers.
You'll need a certain amount of traffic before they will accept you. (I think ezoic accepts smaller websites and mediavine wants about 30k visitors per month before they will accept you currently).
In my experience, getting form page 2 to one of the top 3 spots for a competitive keyword is difficult. You've heard the joke? "Where's the best place to hide a dead body? ...On page 2 of a google search result".
Sorry I can't help you with and idea of affiliate income, (I'm learning that myself!) but I just thought I'd let you know about adverting income if you didn't already.
Good luck,
Gav
Thanks for your response, Gav!
I never really considered going the ad route. I'm planning on pushing some of Max Bounty's more popular weight loss products, but will definitely have to look into those sites, if my site can get high traffic numbers. All in all my keywords combined have a total traffic volume of 80,000 per month, so at best I'd be able to get maybe 25k visitors a month.
Haha yes, I have heard that joke. Luckily, for my keywords, there are some spammy looking sites ranking on the top 3 results with not a ton of links built to them, so maybe if I pray I won't get stuck on the cursed second page.
Depends on what the site actually looks like and whats the concept.
To give you an example from my personal experience, I had a review site for an erotic toy some time ago, the main keyword had similar search volume to what you mentioned but I was ranked for a number of related terms too. The total daily traffic was several 100s of clicks.
I was able to sell 2-10 products per day, priced at around $50 each, sometimes more when they ordered a bundle.
It's really hard to compare this with what you might be getting once you rank, as it depends on the structure of the site, how many long tails you rank for etc ... The site I had was full of reviews for just one specific range of products, so all outgoing links were actually leading to an online store so I had quite good results.
If you manage to pull in 25k clicks as you suggested in the reply above and you manage to funnel a large % of them to the sales pages, it should make very nice income.
The one thing that concerns me about the site that I hadn't considered when I started was keyword intent. You said you targeted the erotic toy niche, so I'm sure a lot of your keywords had high buyer intent.
I'm just wondering how many people will convert to purchase a weight loss supplement that are looking for info on how to lose weight fast. I have basically no experience in this and don't have any SEO friends that could provide insight... Guess I need to just brush up on my persuasive sales copy.
