Lol talking about that, I was told by my advertiser that the biggest affiliates they have are webmasters. Some people are generating $20,000+ a day as a webmaster. Think about it, not even running ads lol. If you know how, tell me haha. I suck at SEO and shit.

Yes, owners of some websites. It can be review sites, adult sites or a bunch of other sites that gets a lot of organic traction. I assume some of them will be using Blackhat SEO as well.
A lot of them hang out in
https://gfy.com/ from what I heard. I am super interested in this stuff, but I have too many things in my plate right now.

Lol Traffic Junky attended, and they are owned by Mindgeek which is the parent company of Pornhub too.

With the right angle, it could work, it's still the same people who browse the new york times too, right?

I have an account at gfy too, since 2002 I think

It used to be a super busy place, not so much anymore, but it's still quite active.
Webmasters are people who run actual websites, that's what we all used to do when there was no mediabuying at all. All traffic was organic or traded, ad networks appeared couple years later.
What people are doing in order to make money from sites like pornhub, is that they upload watermarked videos, then cash on in from the typein traffic. Some videos also start with a short video ad, mostly for dating or male enhancement, which results in typein traffic again. With enough views, it can translate to a lot of clicks. Many tubes also have "content" programs, so you upload videos that you should have rights for, then they put a related banner below the actual video and send you traffic via a revshare deal.
Another option is to embed videos from the large tubes on their own sites, this is how tubes like xvideos got that big. They were willing to take the hosting bill, which got them lots of return visits later on. Those who embed the videos are building "scrape tubes", hundreds of them, then collecting the organic visits... with 100s of sites, this can again build a nice chunk of traffic, that they usually monetize through ad networks like exoclick.
I could tell you quite a lot about how adult sites are run and monetized, it used to be my bread&butter for quite a few years. So if you have any questions, just ask

I'm interested in this as well. Maybe an AMA?
Know very little on this and am mostly curious on how they monetize since there are "tube" sites out there that seem to be just ripping content from other ones that are hosting it but don't seem to be monetizing much beside pop ups? Also been seeing some video sites that force you to watch youtube videos (legit ones), which I have no idea how they are making money (unless they are being paid to increase the youtube views since ther aren't any ads on it and it is very very random videos).

AMA? So an ask me anything thread in the adult section? Why not, if there is enough interest

Pops is one, next are banner spots that are sure all over the site, usually quite a few in the footer and some around/under the video. These are sold via traffic networks, most of them use exoclick. Search the source code of the page and you should see it there. Some are also categorizing the videos by the paysite/production that the vids come from, then run banner for the related paysites.
Some tubes also have partner programs, so you setup a tube, embed their videos and then send traffic to them via a link in the player or somewhere else on the site, then the tube pays you some very low amount per click... it's pennies, but if you manage to get a LOT of traffic, it can grow.
force you to watch youtube videos (legit ones),
This could be some kind of "incentive deal" or "content locking" type of a setup. So they deliver traffic to some youtube videos and get paid for that ... could be in order to drive up their ranks, help them get into the youtube toplists etc .. Or it's pretty much fraud... someone orders traffic to their videos from some source and they send them adult traffic this way, which they obviously didnt ask for.
Adult traffic is often used to game some systems, since it's quite easy to obtain it in high volumes for cheap.

Hehe yeah I know, most offers that are not adult by nature do not want this traffic at all, but there are some that are ok with it

I remember when that place got sold, just didn't know it was that much $$$... not too shabby for a free forum

To be fair, it was the biggest "contact point" of the industry back then, people were even selling signature spots for solid dough and the whole adult biz was in much better condition than it is now.
And when the tubes started to kill the biz for everyone... all the countless threads about whether it's doing some harm or not... so many believed it's no threat and "quality content" is what matters. Pretty much all of them are gone now, obviously. I had my share of fun at GFY for sure

@matuloo - thanks for the answers, super helpful as always. I had a similar suspicions to what you said but good to always get a more experienced person in the niche to confirm it especially if I may be missing some new way people are monetizing.

Guess it just depends on how they are monetizing it, can't imagine CC submits having much of an issue with this quality and I know some SOIs will be fine with it as well depending on how they are monetizing it.
