Learning the basics. (12)

Learning the basics.

Hi all,

A little background first. Last year I travelled the world, and decided I didn't wanna live in The Netherlands anymore and move to some more exotic location (yes I mean Thailand). And set myself a goal to make money online instead of working a normal day job. Last year I tried some private labelling, didn't work out because of shady manufacturer.

The goal is to become successful at affiliate marketing in the next year, ultimately quit my day job and move abroad. For now I will keep working my day job to fund campaigns, tools, hosting and everything else.

I am now following Vortex's 40 day tutorial to start my journey, I am a bit late with my follow along since I am at day 18-ish now. I setup some direct-link pop campaigns to get a little familiar with the tracker (I didn't spend alot on those). Haven't made my first sale yet. Hope to change that in the next few weeks.

A few questions/things to fix I got so far:

1. I think I messed up my tracker (Binom) a little bit, my postback link contains my host IP instead of my actual domain (is this normal??)

2. I followed all the steps to get the SSL certificate (for the landing page hosting) but when I go to my domain it tell me, not secure. I will go over the steps again.

Edit: I am stupid, I tried going to http:// my domain instead of https:// so that's fixed

I really looking forward too the next few lessons, setting up landers. And I am happy to be part of the forum.

I talked to my AM and he suggested some offers, I am currently in the process of ripping landers and trying to fix them. I will post more updates when I actually launch that first campaign.

Rick welcome to the forum since there's couple of things that you might missed with your setup and you didn't provided more details my advice to you is that your best shot is to ask Binom support to resolve those two issues. I'm sure guys will help you very quickly as Binom support is famous for that.

Hi Rick! Thanks for starting your journey with the 40-day guide, and for starting this follow-along!

I'm with @ivan the terrible: Binom support is fantastic so don't hesitate to hit them up! They hardly sleep it seems - almost always online and available to answer questions.

Looking forward to your next update! Don't hesitate to ask questions if you're stuck.

It's been a while since I posted, I was very busy working my day job. I've got the problems fixed from my first post with the help of the Binom support who are awesome by the way.

I am however having a new problem, I am using Binom tracker as stated in the first post. Now I got into the landing page section of the guide. Maybe I am just stupid but what link do I use after setting up a campaign to redirect people to the offer so binom will track the CTR? I can see how many clicks I got but I am probably using the wrong outgoing link. @vortex

Progress so far, customized 4 landers from the landing page depository and translated them in spanish. Currently trying to figure out how and what links I have to use from there (maybe I just skipped over that part in the tutorial, will check again)

When I am done with that I will be able to launch that first campaign and have some more exciting posts!

EDIT: Found the problem you should just use the /click link and you will be redirected.

Alright time for a little update. I ran my first campaign with 3 landing pages but I could only find one offer so that wasn't optimal.

Name:	Results test 1.jpg
Views:	21
Size:	48.4 KB
ID:	22684

But after 30 minutes of running the campaign my AM messaged me: "You have 848 unique clicks and 27028 in general.". So I paused the campaign and I am trying to figure out if I skipped a step in the guide or maybe it is something else.

Landing page one was a very simple landing page with only one button redirecting too the offer so maybe that's the problem.

For now I've no idea and will go back too the guide too figure it out!

On the positive note, I had my first 2 conversions!!!

You may want to check 2 of your lps, why they have so low CTR. You are using pops?

Yes I am using pops, I am still in the testing phase following vortex's guide. Will switch too push later. But are my lps the reason I get 27028 clicks in general? It's wierd though in my tracker I got like 950 LP clicks, but when I check in clickdealer I got 29000 (all together, and 900 unique ones). I probably messed up some links somewhere!

It's probably because a bot or something got stuck and kept loading your page and now it makes sense why you have such low CTR, pops can be like this, but you still may want to optimize them a bit.

Thanks for your comment, I will do some more bot testing aswell and try too optimize the pages and report again when that's done.

The offer looks a bit promising: Converted twice after 11+19=30 clicks! Of course we'd need to see more data to know whether this trend would continue, but looking promising so far!

The lander CTR on the other hand is not so great. Try to test more landers. Also try to direct-link to the offer to see whether it would convert. What kind of offer is it? And what's the conversion flow?

Regarding the 27028 clicks: Wowzers! They're not recorded by the tracker, so it looks like a bot may have just taken the aff link and loaded it 27k times. I hope it isn't a competing affiliate trying to sabotage your campaign. If so that would be the most despicable thing ever.

Try to ask your AM to check whether most that traffic was from the same IP (or a few IPs). If so, can try setting up rules in Binom to direct them elsewhere (to google.com for example).

Hi @vortex,

The offer kept converting at the same rate with the landers I used. I tried to speed optimize them but the loading times still suck (2.6s). I probably have too try some new landers, the problem is I will have too get them translated again too spanish and that takes a lot of time, do english landers convert in non native speaking countries aswell? Or should I just rip spanish landers and hope they are translated right?

I tried running the offer using direct linking (10x payout) didn't get a single conversion so that doesn't work, I have also added a back button redirect and added the push subscriptions from monetizer to the main lander. Would you say I keep continue testing with the 2 original landers or try too rip let's say 5 more and try again?

Oh wow! The results you've been getting were from a lander with such horrible load times? That's actually good news in a way!

Definitely test more landers! Variations of the original, plus completely new ones.

And definitely test speed-optimized versions of the original one!

As for translations - several options:

-Try fiverr - you can get up to 1000 words translated for $5-10.

-Google translate can be decent if you'd first rewrite the content into VERY short sentences, and without any figures of speech.

-Download landers that are already written in the target language. Of course that's no guarantee that the translation is good, but if you only pick ones that have received a lot of traffic over several days, chances are they're decent converters (or the affiliate running them would have paused them sooner).

I wouldn't recommend spending too much on translations before you even know if the campaign will end up profitable. When you hit green, you can always spend a bit more to get proper translations done.

It's been a few days since your last post - have you tested other landers? Would be interested in the results!
