Lookalike audiences on Taboola/Outbrain

Hey guys,

I've spent a ton of money on native (Taboola/Outbrain) profitably over the last few years for ecom and health offers, but I've never tested campaigns for lookalikes of buyers for examples. Has anyone seen results using those? My AMs always tell me it's gonna have limited volume, etc. and whenever I've played with audiences on Taboola (e.g "Health users", etc.) I've never been able to spend more than a couple hundred $$$ per day.

If you guys have seen good results with lookalikes (or even audiences in general as opposed to run of network + whitelists), what was your approach? Would love to hear your experience.

Cheers!

I'm curious about the same thing...

I've tried Lookalikes on Outbrain based on the conversion pixel that builds up for a certain campaign or conversion, and had very limited success. Seemed like a 1% LAL meant hardly any traffic, a 15% one didn't convert much better than a run of network campaign, and a 5% one sort of was worth it, but not always...

With both lookalikes and retargeting on Outbrain though I usually have to optimize by placement just as heavily as a regular campaign...

Have definitely had more success with retargeting though...

Also tried targeting the 'Interests' on Outbrain that had the lowest cpa's for the main campaign, but couldn't get that to work very well...

Haven't tried lookalikes on Taboola since I haven't had any hashed email databases to use, but am hoping to try that soon.

One thing I *seem* to notice some big outfits doing is 'cross targeting' (on Outbrain especially I notice this), where I'll click one of that outfit's ads on a Revcontent or Taboola widget, then the next time I go to CNN or another big Outbrain pub, I immediately see ads from that outfit for a bunch of different campaigns... makes me think they are building up a retargetng list of 'all visitors' and then using that as one of their audiences for every offer they run...

Super interesting stuff but I've only barely scraped the surface of it at this time...

Would also love to hear anyone else's experiences as well!

Hey guys,

Although I'm still new on the natives block, but uploading a large list of emails from our store and doing an a LL on if on Taboola has immediately allowed me to break even. Before that, broaded age/location targetting was giving me negative ROI.

I would definitely suggest testing the feature.

For anyone owning a good email list, this is definitely something to try!

Hey plantinum,

Have you have any experience with lookalikes?

Haven't played around much with them myself, but the feedback from people that are heavily using them is quite positive.
