General Newbie tracking questions. Some clarifications will be awesome!

Hello,

I am new to AM. Got some questions with regards to trackers. Hopes some pros could help me out .

Pondering these questions for a while.

- If I am using FB/Adwords and the affiliate network agrees to put the JS tracking pixel for me on the offer page. Do I still need a tracker? I am scratching my head and can't really see the need for it. Why introduce another system and increase the complexity of the whole setup.

- I use a tracker with the landing page pixel setup. I read we cannot use the redirect method for the tracker if traffic source is FB/Adwords. I notice the offer page to load a couple of seconds slower compared to viewing them direct using the affiliate network offer link. Does using a tracker slow down the offer page from loading? If it does, is it my hosting (as I am using custom tracking domain) or the tracker (i am using bemob for free)?

- Is there a way to simulate conversions on the affiliate network side to make sure all tracking is setup correctly? I understand that if I were to submit dummy data into the offer page to test, it will be against the TOS of the affiliate network. How could I ensure the conversions will be counted as per what is stated on the offer details page?
The reason I am asking is because I recently ran an offer and i believe some shady stuff is going on to not fire conversions. I believe this is done by the advertiser, not the network. After I flag it to my AM, the offer expires is less than 48 hours. It may be a coincidence, I don't know. What is strange is I have higher conversions on an unrelated offer (lander does not match the copy on the offer page) vs a related offer (lander matches the copy on the offer page).
So...Is there a way to check conversions is firing as per what is stated on the offer details page?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Songbird,
Welcome aboard!

To reply, it's always better to use a tracker to perform split test, manage daily cap without having to update the links through the code, I would say in term of campaign management that's the best option. However, FB/Adwords do not allow redirect so you have to be very careful with that. Regarding the speed of the page, it shouldn't be related to your tracker usually we're talking about few more MS so it has no impact on CR. The best would be to check the speed redirect with your browser, you'll be able to identify where it's start to slowdown.
Regarding testing the pixel, better to ask the support of your network. That's something common so obviously your account manager should know how to support you on this matter. If you're getting conversions on unrelated offer it could be because of your targeting, most of the network offer solutions to monetize mistargeted trafic. It also mean that the pixel is not installed in one dedicated offer but every conversion may call a blank page to be fire.

Hope that I my response is helpful!

I consider that you still need to use tracker. It gives you the possibility to know everything about your campaigns: where your visitors come from, their type of device. Besides, trackers usually carry out A/B tests automatically and find out where to make changes for improved effectiveness.

Got it. Thanks guys!

I guess a tracker is still necessary. It's just that I am not use to using one and the setup can be a little crumble some since now we need to add one more tech to the tech stack.

Guess it gets easier when I launch more campaigns!

@songbird

I`ll support the point about - you do need a tracker (And yes - I am with RedTrack.io so consider me biased).
To add to the points made above:
- some trackers have Google S2S postback running out of the box and have customers using it to run CPA optimised campaigns.
- some tackers also help you with set-up and will explaining how the do test conversions etc.

So, you can always get a trial or two, ask for a demo call, explain your needs and see if a tracker can offer you the solution. Then give it a try and see if it actually give you benefits.

Then make a choice. Maybe ask more questions.

If you want to give RedTrack.io a try - it would be out please to help.

@songbird 100% agree, it's always better to use a tracker, even when you run campaigns on Facebook/Google Ads. In fact, these are some of the most popular traffic sources Voluum users track. And you're right about the recommended tracking method - it's important to avoid redirects and go with a no-redirect script that doesn't require the initial redirect (happening between clicking on an ad and being redirected to a landing page) to collect the data, Fb and GA most often don't tolerate redirects.

You can even go one step further and test Voluum's completely redirectless tracking so avoid ANY REDIRECTS, even the one between your landing page and your offer page.

And then, pass back conversions with payout easily thanks to Voluum's integration with Google Ads.

DM me to set it up.
