Blacklisting Popads - How?

Hi Vortex,
Your guides are really very detailed and really useful.

Before getting into Landers, I think, we(I) need to sort out the traffic details- Blacklisting, Bidding, Geos etc.
I have tried to run some very low paying offers(9 cent to 25 cent)(carrier video subscription, pin submit etc) without landers, didn't get significant success. But I still think the problem might not be lander, problem can be my Traffic options(targetting, bidding, blacklisting, volume etc). {The offer seems to be doing good for others}.
Q1. How important blacklisting really is? How to do it properly? I mean, is the blacklist different for each Geo, or bad websites(placements) perform bad in every Geo?
Q2. For blacklisting and other purposes as well, is it better if we 'Master' 1,2 or 3 Geos first and then move to other Geos slowly.
Q3. Should we start a campaign AFTER initial blacklisting or not? I mean as I have run Smartlink and some offers for 2-3 weeks, I have some Blacklist for some Geos, should I Blacklist using this list before running ANY and EVERY campaign? What is the proper process of blacklisting? Thanks.

Hello, let me give you some answers:

Without LPs, you won't reach profit with POPs, period. You can use directlinking to mass test a bunch of offers and quickly find some that are converting at all, but to increase the performance, LPs are a must.

How important blacklisting really is? How to do it properly? I mean, is the blacklist different for each Geo, or bad websites(placements) perform bad in every Geo?
It's extremely important. You need to get rid of placements that have very poor traffic from whatever reason (BOTs in most cases). Blacklists can be universal or not, depending on why a specific placement didn't convert. in case BOTs were the reason, the placement likely wont work in any GEO. But if it was an interest problem for example, then the same placement might work with a different offer type.

For blacklisting and other purposes as well, is it better if we 'Master' 1,2 or 3 Geos first and then move to other Geos slowly.
At the beginning, it's the best to stay focused. So do not try to target everything at once. Learn some part of the market in and out, then move on to other things. You can focus on a specific vertical, or a specific GEO or a specific traffic type. The choice is yours, just don't try to "do it all"

Should we start a campaign AFTER initial blacklisting or not? I mean as I have run Smartlink and some offers for 2-3 weeks, I have some Blacklist for some Geos, should I Blacklist using this list before running ANY and EVERY campaign? What is the proper process of blacklisting?
In case you blacklisted BOT placements, you can carry this BL over to your new campaigns. I mean, if you blacklisted some placements that performed EXTREMELY poor, compared to the others, chances are they wont perform in the new campaigns either. So feel free to blacklist these in all future campaigns.

What @matuloo said.

I don't have much to add - except for the question of whether to apply a blacklist to all future campaigns:

If the blacklist was collected for the same geo, then yes, by all means, apply the blacklist for future campaigns.

However, keep in mind that a placement can only convert as well as your offer+lander. So if you find an offer+lander that converts better than the combination you were using when you collected the original blacklist, then some of the original unprofitable placements may be profitable with this new combination.

So what you can do is, apply the blacklist at the beginning of the new campaign, and then if the campaign becomes profitable, un-blacklist some of the not-so-bad placements to give them another chance.

On the other hand, if the blacklist was collected for a different geo, then I would be more careful. Yes, sometimes a placement is just shitty across all geos, but not always. So, you have a choice here: Either 1)start with no blacklist and build a new blacklist for this new geo, or 2)apply the blacklist from another geo, but if you see a promising offer+lander, retest the placements on the blacklist.

Also keep in mind that sometimes, the reason a placement converts badly is because of bot traffic, and the level of bot traffic can increase or decrease dramatically. Therefore, a "bad" placement from a week ago may become a "good" placement now. So it wouldn't be a bad idea to retest placements every few months (again, only if you have a promising offer+lander).

Q1. How important blacklisting really is? How to do it properly? I mean, is the blacklist different for each Geo, or bad websites(placements) perform bad in every Geo?
It is very important, especially on pops.
You have to come up with your rule of thumb and use it.
If you need inspiration for blacklisting rules here is a good thread: https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...-Of-Thumb-quot

Q2. For blacklisting and other purposes as well, is it better if we 'Master' 1,2 or 3 Geos first and then move to other Geos slowly.
Some geos are easier to master than others.
If the geo is going too wrong (worse than -60%) even after you did a lot of blacklisting and optimization I would move on.
There are ton of geos to try and test.

Thanks.
For the worst zones you can use the blacklist for other campaigns as well.
If the placement has 0% or very low % CTR, lot of bots etc. you can just blacklist it without testing it again in other geo.
There might be exceptions, but in most cases this approach will work.
