Going Through Tracking Hell ATM
Hello Fellow STMers
I find myself going though something that I refer to as TRACKING HELL.
Its the only thing stopping me from launching camps at the moment.
I can't figure out how to get this gosh darn tracking thing up and running.
Being a digital marketer since I was 16 running stuff that dont redirect you to another domain to convert, I've never used a tracker and Google analytics has always sufficed.
Now that I'm in my AM zone and am trying to finally catch up to my AM dreams, I spent a little time and put together a few landers with a few offers to run on Google Ads.(The Only Traffic Source I Have Extensive Experience With)
THING IS, over 70% of my affiliate networks don't work with trackers and wont let me add a click id and postback for my offers and from what I (think I) understand, I guess you're not supposed to put tracking urls when you're running google ads.
So is there any possible way to track my keywords that convert on these offers? My site is one of those list website type things that outline the features and benefits of each service. So I have like 10 offers on my page at any given time.
I've seen my competition do it like this for the links when you click the offer CTA: mycompetitordomain.com/out/offer_site_name. I ran it through a redirect tracker and I see a bunch of redirects for that page to different pages so I'm not sure whats going on there. Are they using a tracker? How?
I even jumped the gun and went with Voluum tracker and even want to upgrade, however I wonder if I will even get to even use it.
Pretty much, how can I track my links when I'm running Google ads and want to keep track of the keywords that convert? How do my competitors do domain.com/out/offer and whats the point (can they even pass click id like that?)?
Any help will be appreciated.
Sorry for the messy post, had a couple claws!

Been awhile since I used Adwords, but I'm pretty sure you can use trackers and tokens using their ValueTrack url thingy.
More info here
Tracking tokens has a small list here
Voluum even has a template for Google Ads when adding traffic sources, I would start there. Looks like this:

Voluum also has a bunch of google documentation here
You can of course use pixel tracking as well.
And mix-in google tag manager? Although, I tend to stay away.
Reach out to Voluum support and tell them what you are trying to do, they are usually pretty helpful

Fully understanding tracking will take some time, for sure. But let's try to launch these campaigns as soon as possible, I'm happy to help you out.

When S2S postbacks are not supported, the alternative is to use
a conversion tracking pixel (more info
here).
Tracking pixels are a cookie-based solution, so they
do not rely on the click ID being passed in an offer URL. Instead, the click ID value is logged in a cookie of the visitor's browser after he clicks the click URL under a CTA button on your landing page.
You need to place the conversion tracking pixel after the conversion actually takes place, for example on the thank you page.

True, you need to avoid redirects when running Google Ads. But as @
jaybot mentioned, you can use direct tracking pixel - you'll omit the initial redirect and still track EVERYTHING (including keywords).
We have a template for Google Ads where keyword token (and all the others: campaign id, ad group id, id of the geographical location of the click, id of the location of interest that helped trigger the ad, match type of the keyword that triggered your ad, network where the click came from, creative, placement, target id) is already mapped for you. Go to Traffic sources tab → New traffic source → Google Search and Display → Load template.
Do you want to pass info about conversions back to Google Ads? If you're on our Discover plan, a pixel redirect URL will report conversions from
Voluum to Google. Though you'll have to update payout in Google manually. But if you're on Profit plan or higher (you said something about upgrading), you can use our integration feature and pass the payout and conversion info to Google with ease (check
this).
You'll find instructions how to set up your campaigns specifically in
Voluum and Google
here. If your landing page contains 10 different CTA buttons that link to 10 different offers that shouldn't be rotating between each other, you need 10 separate multi-offer click URLs to place under these CTA buttons.
So while creating a campaign, in a given path, add only one lander and 10 offers. In a lander element setup, set the number of offers to 10. Offers will be selected in descending order, so the first multi-offer click URL from the top of a landing page (
https://your_Voluum_domain.com/click/1) will link to the first offer in a path, the second URL (
https://your_Voluum_domain.com/click/2) will link to the second offer and so on.
I even jumped the gun and went with Voluum tracker and even want to upgrade, however I wonder if I will even get to even use it.
Good! To the first part. You WILL get to use Voluum, I showed you above, right?
