Hey Guys,
Not sure what forum does it fit,
Also I'm not looking for help of any kind other then your thoughts.
Just a tired entrepreneur that hit Rock-Bottom!
sharing that here for few reason:
1. It doesn't feel like anyone else will understand me, so maybe here people will
2. Share your experience, I hope they will help me, and maybe others feel better when times gets hard.
My name is Gal,
I've been opening and building business for 2 years now
All of them are related to online marketing.
Just a quick introduction,
I'm 29 now.
Been working in sales and manage sales teams back in 2013.
After that I worked 4 years in the IT world, going up in that ladder.
In 2015 (While working as am software QA) I got interested in online marketing
And started to learn and try many things - I just loved it as soon as I saw it!
My last job - I worked in a start-up company that made me feel so useless and frustrated that I finally quit the 9 - 5
It was followed by 2 year of that:
- I got leads from Google ads for family business
- Promoting products on warrior plus
- Build 2 ecom stores
- Build an online agency
- Build a mentoring business
The thing is,
Non of those business were making me much money.
I spend all my time and money building them
And on my spear time, I sold other people products on the phone as a sales person,
So I will have money to keep things running!
I went to try my luck in the US
Now I am 4 month here,
Just booked a ticket back to Israel with my last dollars.
I feel so lost,
I've never been so broke.
I can't run any offers or promote a (No more money to invest)
No business in my hand to work with.
Desperately, I was starting to look at online guides - making $100 a day -then I woke up and close those tabs fast!
I just wanted to ask,
Have you eve been in that situation?
If so what have you done?
I keep on thinking that the reason for that is that I am too lazy
or too stupid to follow those dreams every time.
I see people that are successful here in this forum,
Lately I'm just thinking, maybe I don't have what it takes...
Please share you experience,
Maybe it will help somehow.
Thank you for reading
Gal
OK, here we go.
First of all, there's a filter that applies to the stories on the forum. You mostly see the stories op people that are succesful. The people who give up, mostly disappear. They will no longer be a member of the forum and there's likely no incentive for them to post.
Result: high ratio of success to failure stories.
If you have what it takes, I can't tell.
But what I can tell is what's the easiest way to make 100 a day - get a job!
Which is your best bet right now. And going back to Israel is great decision.
I assume you've got family and friends there, so there's a safety net and it means lower cost.
As I mentioned in another post (read it here), you need to make small bets, survive long enough and avoid ruin.
Right now, you have not been able to avoid ruin. So you're out of the game.
But...
These states are temporary. So if you're out now, it means you out for now.
So:
- take a break (from running your own business / campaigns etc)
This takes the pressure off and gives you some distance that's needed to analyse and reflect
- get a job
So you have some income. And in addition to that, you will feel better by contributing and earning money
It will also give you new ideas you can work on. Being in a market gives you valuable insights and helps you spot opportunities
- keep your cost low
To build up savings that you can use those funds in the future, should you decide to restart
There's no shame in failure. Most people don't make it.
And from my personal experience - I started my current business off the back of a failed venture.
That was 6 years ago and I was in debt, living with my parents-in-law (with 2 kids..) and had 1 site that had virtually no turnover. In 15 months, I made 13K as income.
Living in the Netherlands on 13K a year with a family of 4 means you're poor. Plain and simple.
So you can come back. Even though it might look like that right now.
Good luck!
Been so broke I have had to pawn everything I held valuable.
Here are my thoughts. These are just my opinions but they have helped me tremendously.
1. God is still in control. Roll your eyes all you want, ignore at your own peril. If I have to lean only on my knowledge and faith, I am FINISHED. Thank God he's guiding my steps, I don't have to stress as much.
2. Never give up. Why so many businesses in a short period of time? Why so quick to switch into something else, when each of the areas you talked about have players in them that are making a killing?
Let me tell you a cool story.
In the late 1840s there was a man that got caught up in the California Gold Rush. Everyone was making a killing, and he wanted to join in. He was from Philadelphia and he convinced his relatives to loan him money so he could buy the equipment needed to mine the gold. Altogether he raised a good sum of money.
Went to Cali, staked his claim, bought the equipment, hired his workers, started mining. He had flashes here and there of promise but nothing major. 6 months passed. A year passed. A year and a half passed.
He burned through all the money he was given, and against his best instincts he decided to bail out. He auctioned all of the equipment and animals, made just enough money to get back home broken, beaten.
The guy who bought the equipment and the mining claim initially was going to part it all out. But something seized him inside. Something said to him.....keep going.
So he did.
It turns out the first guy was only THREE FEET FROM GOLD. The second guy hit a vein that made him rich overnight. The first guy was only three feet away from it.
The skills that are unimportant in life are:
-coding, programming
-media buying
-copywriting
-website design
-payment processing
The skills that are vitally important in life are:
- indomitable spirit
- perseverance
- ability to read people
- how to be a salesman
- how to grow a thick skin
- how to learn from your mistakes
Focus on the last list.
Thomas Edison made over 1800 light bulbs that DID NOT WORK before he made one that did.
I'll throw out some random thoughts... these might be more generic than specific to your situation but they are things that seem to crop up a lot with our demographic (young guys focused on entrepreneurism/self-sustaining income).
-Simple, un-romantic ways of making money online like providing services on Fiverr seem massively underutilized. It takes 0$ in upfront costs, and I've met no shortage of dudes in their 20's making 60k+ per year from it. Sure it's not as romantic as building a
-Entrepreneurship is just one facet of overall self-improvement. If you're a dude in your 20's it's going to be hard to feel good unless you're also lifting weights regularly (men evolved to push heavy things, not sit in front of a keyboard), pursuing healthy relationships with women, staying away from porn/television/excessive video games, etc.
-I've derived immense value from self-improvement oriented content on Youtube like Jocko Willink, Jordan Peterson, etc that is not entrepreneurship-focused but still very valuable.
-Try to pursue business success in a way that is divorced from outcomes. There's always a lot of focus on being 'goal-oriented', but sometimes when you're not hitting your goals that can be tough... I prefer to think of it as a duty/responsibility, in that entrepreneurship and economic freedom would be the right thing to pursue even if I knew ahead of time I would never succeed, because pursuing them is intrinsically right.
-Reading fiction for ten minutes a day is immensely helpful in taking the edge off business-related stress. It's really like going to the gym but for your emotions.
-If money is an issue than arbitrage your location/expenses. This doesn't just have to mean moving to Thailand or something. It can mean living in a cheap part of the country as opposed to the city, or just buying a used RV (if you're in the US or CA) and getting a good internet connection and trying to live on less than 1000$ a month. Much easier to support oneself through entrepreneurism like that then if you're renting a 3k apartment in the city. Stay away from debt, embrace the whole Dave Ramsey 'Beans And Rice' thing, both personally and in terms of business decisions. In other words, do the Clickfunnels strategy rather than the WeWork strategy
(on a micro scale though obviously!)
-Remember the maxim "You've to be in business to succeed in business", or in other words, don't quit trying out new light bulbs, as Taormina's excellent response mentioned!
Good luck!
I'll chime in too, since I always feel eternally broke. Yet. Somehow, I live in a relatively nice area, have 3 kids and a wife, and I'm not eating out of a garbage can every day. For now.
But believe me: I. Am. Not. Successful. By any metrics on this forum a least.
Not counting spytools, hosting, and tracking costs. Campaigns alone, just since starting in June, I've blown through $10,000 and lost about $3000.
That's a difficult thing to explain to your wife. Especially when you don't have a proper job with a steady income.
That being said. As @pekadis said above, constant, small bets are good. I have been continually failing my entire life. Every once in a while, one of them pays off big time and offsets the others.
The key is to keep going without drowning. And avoid 'shiny object syndrome' as everyone here calls it. This doesn't just apply to AM. It applies to everything in life and business.
I mean, Fuck:

Many affiliate marketers have been in this situation, feeling blue, and down. I've been there myself. We created a support group on telegram named Happy Affiliate, where we talk about struggles/challenges and share our stories; currently we have 328 members. Feel free to join https://t.me/happyaffiliate
I'm completely blown away by all the wise advice above. We really have very caring members here in the community. I'm truly touched.
@galhop I don't have much to add, but I mainly just really, really want to tell you a couple of things.
First of all, you're NOT lazy - you've tried different things, and for various reasons they didn't work out. Some people are meant to "fail" multiple times before they succeed. In fact, very few people manage to hit it big the first time. For example look at these entrepreneurs:
https://smallbiztrends.com/2016/01/e...ho-failed.html
Have you heard of the law of attraction? (If not, do a search on "abraham hicks" or even more specifically "abraham hicks money".) All this financial stress is the fuel that will propel you to success one day.
I've been at a place a LOT worse than where you are. One day I'll tell my story. For now, just trust me when I say I know how you feel. Life doesn't seem to be fun anymore and you start doubting yourself. Don't. Just - don't.
Getting a job temporarily like @pekadis suggested, or doing freelance work on Fiverr (or Upwork etc.) as suggested by @jack_l, can give you the respite you so desperately need to switch your mindset away from LACK. This is huge - probably a lot more so than what most people realize.
If you're not a desk person, and don't like to make any more sales calls, why not get some general labor type of work - e.g. stocking at a supermarket or waiting at a restaurant or similar? Those are mindless tasks that will allow you to rest your brain, so that when you go home at night, you can continue to pursue your internet dreams.
Another important thing I really want to tell you, is that the reason you've not been succeeding, may be because your heart just isn't in any of the stuff you've been doing.
Spend some time alone - go on long walks, take a long soak in your bathtub. Think: If I take money out of the equation, what would I CHOOSE to do with my life, that I wouldn't mind doing every single day?
For years, I was stuck in the mode of "hey look all these guys are making money doing this, let me get a piece of the pie" before I had an epiphany that led me to other career options. (Another story for another time - but in short, I'm now an energy healer, and it gives me immense satisfaction when I see drastic improvements in people's physical and mental states after I'm done with them.)
Find out what YOU really want to do. We all have a life path we've chosen before we were even born. When we deviate from that path, things become a lot harder than they need to be.
Not every career requires spending tens of thousands of dollars and 3-4 years to acquire a college degree. For example, the energy healing modalities I'm being trained in, only require 1-2k per course, and 3-5 days in the classroom. You can get a certificate in a matter of weeks and start charging for your services. Because I'm just starting out, I'm not even needing to rent a commercial space - my house has a big furnished basement which is more than big and comfortable enough to provide healing sessions in. I can also give remote sessions.
So I would suggest for you to do some soul-searching, and also go online to explore other career options you can pursue, that won't break the bank, or take very long to finish.
I'm not religious (although I'm spiritual) but I agree with what @taormina said about God being in charge - we call this energy different names - the Universe, the ONE, the Universal Consciousness, the Source. Whatever you like to call it, it's the one who's guiding us on our path. This is the energy that will pull everything you need together - the resources, the man-power, the money, the knowledge - without your going out actively to pull things together yourself.
You'd just happen to "come across" certain information that would trigger certain ideas. Or you'd cross paths with complete strangers or reconnect with old acquaintances that can help you with a new project. Etc. etc. etc.
People call these "coincidences" but of course there's no such thing. If you follow your inspiration, things will magically happen. It beats having to force yourself to actively look for that "right" path. Just watching pieces of the puzzle come together naturally feels so much nicer than having to look for each piece of the puzzle yourself (and often, you'd end up with pieces from multiple puzzles that don't even fit together!)
In recent years I don't make a lot of plans anymore. Yes I still make to-do lists, but beyond taking care of the few urgent and mandatory items every day, I prefer to just let my heart gravitate towards whatever it feels like working on for the rest of the day. If you meditate daily, you'll soon have a connection with the divine that will guide you in all you do. It takes away the stress - because then you'll just go with the flow instead of holding yourself responsible for everything that happens.
I know some realist will scoff at what I'm saying. Most people, when they think "success", will think goal-setting, self-motivation, holding oneself accountable to actions. I'm not saying that doing SOME of those things won't help to get our butts moving, but if our HEART isn't in it, then all that goal-setting will just become torture.
And why would we want to torture ourselves? Life should be FUN and ABUNDANT. Yes the two words can and do and SHOULD coexist! It's all up to us.
I've turned this post into another novel - sorry about that! But I hope that some of what I said resonates with you.
Sending some loving energy your way - you'll be fine.
Amy
Wow!
I never expected to see so much support!
Thank you guys ! you are amazing,
You've lifted my spirit!
I've read every answer you posted, like 3-4 time! Lol :]
@pekadis
It sounds like you had days a lot like I have
At this moment I really feel like I need a brake in a form of an easy job
I feel like a easy $100 a day job, will get me my energy back!
And thank you for supporting my flight back to Israel, It was a hard decision to make
Thank you!
@sprice
Then I guess I will just keep on moving and failing until I'll get there :]
Thank you! :]
@taormina
I loved that story!
And I can't agree more when talking about god, it's really feels just like that to me!
The list that you put out here for vitally important skills in life is amazing!
Thank you very much for that! loved it!
And I promise to you now, I will never give up!
@jack_l
So much to take from your post!
First of I came from the gym not so long ago after a few weeks I haven't been there!
Thank you for that, I feel much better now!
also some of that healthy way of life with a woman on your side will make a big different.
I must say, I've been dating quite a bit lately, got to meet an amazing ladies, but not something that lasted more then a few days.
I've broke up from a 4 year of a relationship that was not for me, now I don't want to be in that place any more!
But a woman at your side is a strong thing to have!
Also just sold a website work for $500 :] need to get myself more of those!
@jaybot
Persistent is the key! I agree!
I don't really know what made me change and switch between one business to the other.
I know that each business that I had would get to success if I would keep on going that way.
But I just didn't, I honestly don't know why.
I think I will keep on failing until one day I will write a post and put a link this post showing what I went through!
And how you guys helped me lol :]
@iAmAttila
Thank you man,
Just joined the team :]
@vortex
Amy, you left me speechless!
This is my language right there :]
I have one good friend that we talk spiritual,
The funny thing is,
I used to have a lot friends in the past,
Slowly we all went separate ways.
It's hard to have a long term communication with people that don't see life like you do
Haven't meet a lot of people that look at life the way you do (And I'm as well)
I't just funny to meet you in STM forum :]
I truly believe that there is a reason I was failing so far,
the thing is, I am surrounded by business people (Not blaming, Just saying lol )
And that way is easy for me to go back to the technical and forget about the spirit
Then, what eventually happens (Just like now), is that I get burned and I just can't keep on doing that same thing
anymore and then I have to move!
For instance, I am a great sales person,
I do that for many years, and I am just naturally great with people and get them to buy.
I got to a place now that I am so done with that, that I can't even talk to clients,
When ever I go inside the business I feel like sickness is filling my body and I have to move away!
Like something stronger then me just pointing me to GO AWAY from there!
I must say, I don't talk about that much,
My biggest love is actually food and cooking!
I always avoid that, I just didn't like to work in restaurant kitchen
(although I wan't bad when I did work as a cook)
But when I cook it always makes me happy and cleans my mind!
It's like my favorite game! lol
Never really know what to do with that,
But as a kid I always wanted a to have my own cooking show!
You help me a lot with your post and openness and spirituality
It's a thing I usually do with my books and with my friend.
I am happy to see that there are some others out there like us :]
Hey @sprice
I guess I'll keep on failing until I'll make it happen :]
DONT GIVE UP BRO! I BELIEVE IN YOU! I failed on every project from 2016 to mid 2019 before I got something to work!
Hey, @galhop. What you have posted was not only your story but basically that's my story too. Thanks to you I learned lot from others kind and life changing replies.
@micoangelo
Thank you man
It means the world to me!
@aquila2heman
I am so happy to hear that this post helped you 2!
Can you share more about your experience?
What an amazing thread! So refreshing to hear all the war stories.
Let me tell you my rock bottom story...
When I was 19 years old I felt like I finally cracked how to make money online after trying for a couple of years.
I built out a network of adsense monetized sites with my partner in the US and decided to go ALL IN.
I'm not just talking about using all my savings.
- I convinced my parents to loan me money.
- I convinced my sister to loan me the money she saved to go through university.
- I convinced my girlfriend at the time to loan me her savings.
In total I gathered $50,000.
I wired the funds to my partner.
He changed passwords to our websites and ad accounts then went radio silent.
At 19 years old I was $50,000 in debt, and worse yet I let down everyone who was close to me.
I know most of you are thinking "you should of sued the f&*ker!". But when you are 19, completely broke, living on the other side of the world, and in the middle of university, going through a lawsuit in the US isn't really an option. Not to mention I didn't exactly have tight contracts and agreements in place with my "friend".
This was a dark period in my life.
Looking back 14 years later this was probably one of the pivotal moments in my career.
It lit a fire under me that only something like this could do. It gave me all the motivation, lessons and mental strength I needed to become a successful entrepreneur.
Within 6 months I generated enough money to pay everyone back.
Sometimes hitting rock bottom is the thing you need to put you ontrack. To give you clarity. To give you the motivation that only comes from desperation.
@galhop it's hard to give you specific advice based on the little info I know about you. But I agree with what some STMers were saying about you doing too much. You seem to have tried so many different ventures in such a small time. You need focus.
Never hit the real bottom. I always had enough money around, some times I had to take cash from ATM via my CC, to put on my normal account to pay bills.
This was needed because of slow paying clients messing up my cashflow big time. When you are a loner, cashflow is one of the key things imho. Not only to pay bills, but also for the mindset. Being in debt is something you are reminded of hourly....
I always stayed focussed on my skills and kept testing. Never distracted by other stories/verticals/trends.
Hopping (haha) around make you lose focus on long term visions. Ignore hypes!
Sent from my iPhone using STM Forums mobile app
I can relate,
Last time i made a profit in AM was 3-4 years ago. I struggled a lot to make it work, burned though the savings and went into credit card debt.
Then closed hosting and
Then closed STM forum account, but decided to come back a month ago for some reason.
Now driving Uber
Trying to remember what was the key mistakes i made:
1)Addiction to facebook, youtube, whatsapp and other B.S. that just takes away your focus. And guess what, i still cannot break off from that addiction.
2) not controlling my spending.

Thank you guys!
Sorry that it took me so long to reply
I've learned so much from this thread!
@Mr Green
Amazing story!
I'm sure that back then you've felt like the world crushed you,
But it seems like it was what you needed, right?
I agree with you about focus,
I am building it now as we speak!
@stickupkid
It's incredible for me to see how every person's journey is so different!
I love to see it. I remember I used to see a successful person's story and tried to make my story fit theirs, thinking this is the way to go!

and I do cook sometimes to girls that I date with.

Thought I'd give this older but epic thread a bump!
