How Do I Prevent Facebook From Locking Me Out Of My Account?

Hi guys,

I've been running white-hat campaigns on Facebook for several months now, and I've had multiple issues with their security algorithm.

Whenever I'm working on a campaign, I often get locked out of my account for "suspicious activity" (i.e. editing an ad), and I'm forced to upload a photo and wait several days to hear back from them. This causes significant delays and has even caused me to lose money on an adset that I was trying to pause.

To add insult to injury, my account is currently disabled after (I guess) being flagged too many times by the algo. I've uploaded my photo ID, but haven't heard back from them since.

All this time I have been running 100% white-hat campaigns in verticals such as refi, auto loans, and edu. I have done everything from the same device in the same physical location. I have only had one adset disapproved this entire time, and that was due to a minor issue that I subsequently fixed. The adset was then approved and ran as normal.

It seems that the security algorithm is very touchy when it comes to what you do in your account. When you do anything that's slightly unusual (like clicking the wrong button when editing an ad and having to start from scratch), it flags you, even if a reasonable person would not consider it suspicious.

I'd like to know what you guys do to prevent these kinds of setbacks from happening. All these delays are making it hard for me to get anything done, and the fact that my ads will continue to run even if I can't pause them has me worried. What best practices, other than running white-hat campaigns and always logging in from the same device and location, are there to prevent this from happening? I'm not sure if I can really make FB work if it's constantly locking me out.

Thanks a lot!

P.S. All of these issues with Facebook are causing me to consider other traffic sources. Please respond to this thread if you have any suggestions.

Thanks again!

What payment method do you use?

Which geo are you based?

Did people complain in the comments? Are you misleading somewhere?

Do you launch, change and stop ads often daily?

Be careful with your white hat thinking. Financial stuff is very touchy on FB, butttt that should trigger “policy violation” and not unusual activity.

This mostly happens on badly farmed accounts, doubtful payment methods or just a geo the yankees don’t like.

Thanks, let me know!

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using my debit card as my payment method (it's a major card brand with an American bank account).

I am based in the U.S., and running offers there as well.

I am not running misleading or aggressive campaigns, and I have not been getting complaints in my comments.

I do not launch, change, or stop ads daily.

My account is not farmed, so it can't be that.

One possible theory I have is that I don't use the social networking side of Facebook that much. I pretty much just use Facebook for running ads and participating in a group for a course that I bought. I don't have a profile picture or personal info on my account, and I've adjusted my privacy settings to as private as possible. I'm not sure if FB would interpret that as suspicious, but I could see it raising red flags.

Thanks again for your reply. I look forward to hearing what you have to say.

I think you nailed it man. I was assuming your personal profile would be stronger. Still the age must carry some weight. Try to be more active on the social part then? Add some ladies .

I think the problem is as you stated, your personal profile is weak and fits the profile of someone using an account inappropriately causing the suspicious activity bans. I suggest you make your personal profile more authentic like most active Facebook users are. Start doing regular stuff, become a regular FB user despite maybe no desire to do so.

Thanks guys. Is there a way to go about this without interacting with my real-life friends and family on the site? I'm not trying to hide myself or anything. I just want to keep my personal life separate from my business.

BTW, do I have to use a picture of myself as my profile pic? Is it okay to use a cartoon character (like I do on this forum) or something else? I've never been comfortable with posting pictures of myself online, and I've always been careful to not do it. Is it okay to not use my own picture, or would that trigger FB's algo?

Thanks again!

You can just like pages, interact with your opinion on posts on your timeline from others/interest pages. Change your pic to a vague photo of you so you still be kinda anonymous. You don't have to post about the weather yourself ofcourse or take selfies per se. Just make sure you do some activity besides the mediabuy.

Hi,

Agree with other guys.
To have a trusted account, you need to perform different social activities on regular basis. Such as:
- Lead several dialogues at least
- Play games on Facebook
- Make donations for charity
- Complain on our users (if this is reasonable)
- etc

So basically everything what a regular person might do. This way your account will be trustworthy and live longer

Is it okay to use an avatar, like one created using this site, or would that raise red flags?

I'd prefer to not use any photos of myself if it can be avoided. It's just something I'm not comfortable with.
