Hi,
Sorry if this is not the right place to open this topic.
I close nearly all the notifications on my mobile. And as a new AM, I tested a push subscription offer from Clickdealer. Before making it alive, I just wanted to see what was in that subscription.
I pressed "allow" in the offer. Then what?
Omg!!
I have been spammed an offer every 30 minutes or so. Some adult, some finance, whatsoever..
My question is, why would someone allow notification from a domain that seems super spammy?
I think most people allow it by mistake. is this the expectation of "offer owner" ? Someone, hopefully(!), misclick it and I will spam their mobile/desktop with those offers?
Or am I getting it wrong completely?
After seeing the 4th-5th notification in 2 hours, I just disabled it and let it go.
There are multiple options here, it all depends on how and why the permissions are collected.
A great amount of websites, legit ones, are collecting push lists these days. Their intentions are legit, they want to stay in touch with their readers, notify them of new articles etc... Based on such experience, many users are willing to accept push notifications, because they expect the same.
On the other side of the fence, there are people who will do anything to grow their lists. It's common to use a fake misleading message that suggests they need to "Click the button" in order to play a video or get a free game etc... While in reality, they just grant them the permission to send push notifications.
The more misleading the collection method is, the lower quality clicks it produces, so to speak.
Lists collected this way also contain a high % of people who don't understand the push mechanism, so they have no idea where the notifications come from and how to block them... my father is a great example, I have to delete the permissions from his browser all the time. He just keeps on clicking on the pops, without reading what they are about
And you can bet your arm he's not the only one out there.
To sum it up, the push lists can contain all kids of people... those willing to be on it, those who forgot how they got there and have no idea how to remove themselves, those who were tricked into signing up etc ...
Sometimes it's just so annoying that even I consider allowing it, just for the sake of the window not showing up.
For some reason I tend to click on the "x" mark (instead of block) which just closes the prompt, but it then reappears with page refresh.
I'm talking about normal content sites while browsing the interwebs.
Then imagine more aggressive landers where you have no option to block it, if you do you are redirected to another subdomain and stay in this loop until you finally allow..
