Hey guys,
So been part of STM for almost 10 months now, stuck to pops first and then to push. Had a handful of profitable camps but still losing money overall.
I've decided to slowly transition into FB now and put most my effort into it after my balances on pop n push traffic sources dry up.
I'm writing this follow along to show my progress with FB sweeps, as well as to hopefully get advice from the seasoned pros.
Infrastructure & tools setup:
-
- dedicated server for hosting along with cloudflare for CDN
- photoshop/canva for creatives editing
- text editor for lander creation
Types of offers I'll be running:
- SOI gift cards/vouchers
I've already ran one test campaign, which is a grocery store voucher, here are the stats:
Spent: $23.92
Conversions: 3
Made: $4.2
CPC: $0.15
CTR: 4.75%
Tested 4 creatives, best one had $0.15 CPC and 16.75% CTR. Ran on FB mobile newsfeed.
Killed this camp as the offer is probably screwed up, got my friend that lives in the target to test it out and it has 15 questions (along with my survey lander), which messes up the lander to offer conversion.
Right now I'm testing another gift card voucher for a popular makeup brand in the same geo, will update after a few days.
CTR: 4.75% = CR right? Assuming the offer does 4,75% it doesnt convert well indeed, (especially not for SOI) or maybe not with your current angle. Can I ask which geo you are doing?

You don’t have to rotate ads, just replace aff links in your prelander(s) to the new offer. so all traffic goes to the new offer page. very quickly see clicks and conversions coming, see how the new one goes!
Its not groundbreaking no, but decent enough to hit some green! Perhaps if you see all conversion rates suck, no matter which country, your angle might be too weak indeed and you need to think of something more catchy.
The idea is good, but Facebook might penalty you because of poor content quality on the page. Add some background info of the supermarket somewhere below to give the page more ammo!

So my makeup store voucher test campaign went like this:
cost: $20.05
revenue: $3.90
conversions: 3
ROI: -80%
Avg CPC: $0.13 (best creative $0.08)
Avg CTR: 3.35% (best creative $4.28%)
Looked too hopeless with such good creatives (IMO) so I stopped and gave the supermarket voucher camp another go but with another network's offer ... turns out to be going well so I'm still running it.
Stats so far (with new offer):
cost: $26.97
revenue: $19.5
conversions: 10
ROI: -28%
Avg CPC: $0.15 (best creative $0.15)
Avg CTR: 5% (best creative 5%)
So looks like this has potential!
I tested this in the nude (no tracking), but just now I added the LP pixel and all that so I can split test another offer creative easier. Also just created a variation of the winning ad (same creative, but more clickbaity ad copy), and a new creative, to see if I can increase CTR n lower CPC.
Will spend another $10-20 and see how it goes, and report back.
Also I read that supermarket vouchers should be targeted only to women, which I've been doing, but maybe I should test an adset for males also. Also later I will probably duplicate and test an adset with the age range that has the best CTR n CPC.

So I managed to get the SG CPC down to around $0.04 by testing a common creative trick.
However my CR isn't improving and I'm actually losing more, but it's probably because I decided to test a new lander at the same time. Lesson learnt, won't do that again so I'm going to change it back to my original lander in a bit that actually got me to around breakeven with a higher CPC.
Also I've started testing MY, here's the campaign stats so far:
Payout: $0.38
Spent: $12.85
Revenue: $5.18
ROI: -60%
CPC: $0.02
CTR: 11.2%
Not sure what to do with such a good CPC and CTR, maybe I should improve my lander or test some new ones. But the payout is really low so maybe that won't be enough to get green.
QUICK UPDATE:
Got my ad account banned, and can't create any new ones in the same business manager. But managed to create a new personal ad account, so just using that for now.
Testing two offers right now on IG story and FB mobile feeds.
Will update soon after I get significant data.
UPDATE
Been testing more and more offers, still nothing consistently profitable. At most I'll have 20% one day and then next day it'll be like -50%.
So I'm just testing more and more things. Getting better at testing images and having a better idea of what kind of images and ad copy works. Also getting more efficient at making landers and creatives which helps speed up the testing process.
Basically how I test now is use a proven lander (survey, social proof comments, make it look official), and have 3 creatives, spend $25 in a day.
If it's over -30% ROI I'll keep running it and try to optimize, if not I'll move on to a new offer. Not sure if it's the best way but it surely is efficient and I think can help me find sure winners.
One thing I'm not sure about also is whether or not I should run an offer if I feel the payout is too low. For example quite a few offers I'm testing are only around 1 euro, not sure if it's worth it. These are in tier 2 geos like IT, ES, FR.
Anyways, just going to keep testing. Also right now I've been using the same angle and similar ad copy for all my camps, maybe I should try a new angle for campaigns that show promise to try and squeeze more juice.
UPDATE
Got another account banned, but got my hands on two more.
Going to warm up the spend slower this time. So before I got banned I had this supermarket offer on IT with around $0.02 CPC for the best creative, I was almost breakeven. So I think offer has real potential... just duplicated it on my new account (changing the image and copy slightly of course to avoid getting flagged). Hopefully gets approved. If it does, going to try and slowly optimize it.
Also trying this new lander format which is using Google forms (sounds strange I know but my AM says her top FB guys are using it.)
Will update soon with results. Hopefully won't be too soon before I get another account banned.
UPDATE
So here's a campaign that I've been trying to make green for the past several days but not having luck after trying few things:
(This was a supermarket offer in IT)
Day 1
Initial test
Revenue 8
Cost 14.09
ROI -43%
Day 2
Test new offer
Revenue 13.19
Cost 15.18
ROI -13%
Result: new offer wins
Day 3
Test new angle
Control angle ROI
-17%
New angle ROI
-66%
Result: control angle wins
Day 4
Test other new offer
Control offer
Revenue 3.61
Cost 15.62
ROI -77%
New offer
Revenue 7.25
Cost 14.48
ROI -50%
Result: Keep testing
Day 5
Continue offer split test plus test 2 new creatives (same for both offers/adsets)
New offer
Revenue 6.05
Cost 8.04
ROI -25%
Control offer
Revenue 7.22
Cost 11.02
ROI -34%
2 new creatives did well, near the best creative previously. If I ran it another day the CPC would definitely go down also.
So I killed the camp after day 5, kinda feel like testing some new offers in a new geo, but not sure if I should give up so early.
I brought the ads CPC down to around $0.03 consistently, and CTR like 4-5%. I think my lander CTR was good also (around 25-35% depending on the day).
I think what was bad was the offer conversion rates. At best it would be around 10%, usually less on most days. I think if it went to 15-20% it would make my camp turn green.
But not too sure how to affect that, maybe better copywriting on my landing page?
Also I've found that for a lot of camps after one or two days the ROI crashes. Is it normal for FB traffic to be like this? Seems very inconsistent. You can see it's like this from day 3-4. Day 3 it was -17% but then on Day 4 was -77%. Seems hard to optimize when the ROI is that volatile.
Keen to hear some fb guys' thoughts on this camp and whether or not I should resume running it and more ideas on tests to run. So far I've tested offers, angles, and images.
UPDATE
So I gave up on the last camp above, kept testing tons of offers and found another potential winner, with higher payout and ROI.
However it's kind of dying after a few days.
Anyways, here are the stats (it's a supermarket voucher offer):
Day 1
Revenue 0
Cost 3.01
Profit -3.01
ROI -100%
Day 2
Revenue 16.4
Cost 9.19
Profit 7.21
ROI 78%
Day 3
Revenue 26.35
Cost 19.66
Profit 6.69
ROI 34%
Day 4
Revenue 14.82
Cost 17.96
Profit -3.14
ROI -17%"
Day 5
Revenue 18.12
Cost 18.46
Profit -0.34
ROI -2%"
Day 6
Revenue 27
Cost 32.22
Profit -5.22
ROI -16%"
So right now I only have 1-2 images that are doing well, around $0.15 CPC.
I need to test more, along with a different angle, to get the CPC down.
The offer converts really well and has a decent payout which is why I have such high ROI even though my CPC isn't the best.
However this is quite a wealthy geo so might be hard to get high CTR's, but I'll keep trying anyways.
Been using the same lander and angle, but tomorrow I will try a new one to see if anything happens.
Already have a angle in my head that I never really see - could fail miserably, or be wildly profitably... just gotta test to find out.
Need to lower CPC's so I can get higher ROI to give me room to scale.
I've also been testing other camps on the side but nothing of promise yet.
Will be nice to have a few camps even at -30% or more to help cash flow.
Also my account situation is quite nice for the moment, so not too stressed about that... definitely have to look into some uncompliant solutions soon though!
Yeah really man, images make a huge difference. Imma give one example of an image that did very well, although I wouldnt expect;

It was for a fashion voucher. It looks like a H&M in Texas but somehow they were attracted in combination with the angle.

UPDATE
So I abandoned the camp in my last post in this thread, I couldn't manage to get the CPCs down.
However I then had a really good camp, where the CPC and lander CTR were really solid. The CR could've been better but I was still green overall.
Here are the stats:
Day 1
Revenue 12
Cost 9.79
Profit 2.21
ROI 23%
Day 2
Revenue 16
Cost 11.23
Profit 4.77
ROI 42%
Day 3
Revenue 26
Cost 22.34
Profit 3.66
ROI 16%
Day 4
Revenue 32.2
Cost 23.74
Profit 8.46
ROI 36%
Day 5
Revenue 43.5
Cost 34.05
Profit 9.45
ROI 28%
Day 6
Revenue 41
Cost 33.51
Profit 7.49
ROI 22%
Day 7
Revenue 76
Cost 50.35
Profit 25.65
ROI 51%
I wanted to scale more since I was starting to get some really solid consistent ROI but unfortunately my whole personal FB account got banned from advertising.
I don't have any other accounts right now so I'm just spending time researching the whole process of acquiring/farming/warming up accounts.
Hope to have everything running soon.
Bit of a setback but just forces me to be more well prepared and learn a new skillset.
Hello @s3ks3k
I am doing research on facebook ads algorithm and found simple soln to be safe from account ban problem without using cloaker but it won't work from gambling and weight loss( diet). I saw your post and you had account ban problem I might help HMU at skype.

Such nice progress - thanks for sharing @s3ks3k!
Getting the occasional account ban is normal for the FB+sweeps game. As a moderator I can't openly give advice on account sales/farming, but I'll give you a hint: PM members that run a lot of sweeps on FB to see if they'd help you out with some information.
