Does MT flow work with desktop traffic? I'm trying to get more volume, but not sure if this can convert.
With an MT Flow, your best bet is to not use desktop traffic - even filtering out and not targeting WIFI specifically - to help increase you performance. Also, you're going to want to be able to target carrier specific target - as some advertisers will not work with all carriers, which means they can not bill the user.
A quick overview, from Charles Ngo's blog here: https://charlesngo.com/mobilecontentoffers/
• MO Flow – this is when the user gets an SMS / text message about the content they are trying to subscribe to and they need to confirm their subscription via SMS reply.
• MT Flow – this is when the user gets a pin code sent to their mobile device about the subscription. They need to revisit the offer page and submit the pin to confirm subscription.
• MSISDN Flow – these are the one/two click flows where a user can subscribe without leaving the offer page or using any SMS to confirm their subscription. They simply click accept/confirm on the offer page to subscribe to the content.
Hope that helps!
Thanks, Henry, that was SUPER helpful!
Actually charles's explanation is a bit oversimplified.. for the affiliate point of view.
The original definition comes from telecoms and it goes like that
MO flow - mobile origin billing - user is billed when he sends the SMS
MT flow - mobile termination billing - user is billed when you send him the SMS and he receives it
Both of the flows can be single optin or double optin.
The optin can be made either with click2sms or via web input. Wap billing (or msisdn billing) is actually a web input type of optin, but which detects the user's number automatically (has msisidn header detection; which is due to security restriction of browser.(browser does not leak msisdn - mobile phone number) only possible if the user is on the 3g/4g data plan of carrier (carrier does black magic shit.. bypassing browser restriction and identifying user'rs mobile number via browser; hence the requirement for carrier ip lists)..
Single optin means user just sends 1 sms, enters his number or just clicks on a button and voila - he is fucked... err. I mean enters service.
Double optin - well stuff gets a bit more complicated here.. it has multiple methods, such as:
- user needs to double click (first on merchant, then on carrier page)
- users gets a confirmation sms, to which he needs to reply wiht a certain word
- user gets a pin number which he needs to enter on webform
Now in the good old days, when there was milk and honey .. all was single optin.. (even the cool wap billing).
Imagine how cool that was.. But people got greedy and started doing some funky shit.. (like redirecting all Vodafone users automatically to payment confirmation page.. ) Voila 100% clickthru = 100% billing. Magical Rois.
Telcos didnt like that.. so they said ok you know what smartasses.. we gonna do some double optins, so user needs to send a confirmation sms to get billed.
It was chaos.. .. for 8 hours.
Then magical APK's appeared, they intercepted the confrimation sms, hid it from system, replied with confirmal without users knowledge, hid the bill warning notifications,
and did all the optimal ARPU boosting solutions. All was peachy.. for a while.
As lambo prices increases tho, the shady APKs, that were self hosted were not reaping enough denaros. It was time for another ARPU boost.
Enter the backdoor bundling of shady APK via json update packages to existing apps in google play (eg child apps).
Oh it was so good, many a lambo was bought from that money.
Then telcos got really pissed.... and they killed a lot of it.. around 1-2 years ago.
They just said. .you know what fucktards. .we gonna kill all services totally, and we gonna get our own lambo money from data plans.
Enough is enough + that youtube sure is slurping the gigs like a thirsty camel and those user sure do care about speed , so we just gonna
price-fuck them on data plans and collect money from users direct.. and we're done with all those complains and stuff, and all is peachy.
APKs got deleted, lambos got repoed and mobile billing (and telcos) lost the chance of the century,
to replace the cc's and become defacto billing providers and avoid becoming dumb pipe providers.
And now mobiidea offers an ad intelligence tool.
Thanks for the extra details @johner911 - tried to keep it simple, but you did a great job with a detailed explanation and some added context - thanks for adding!
