Why does Voluum detect more visits than the traffic source bills me for?
Hi,
I run a CPC campaign. Traffic source says it generated 149 clicks for yesterday. All clicks to one campaign URL.
Voluum says this campaign got 193 Visits - 30 % more than what I was billed for at traffic source. I know of click loss but in this case, I get more visits than I was billed for. How is this possible?
How does Voluum calculate visits?
When an user click on my ad and visits a page, click on the CTA, visits the offer and come back on my lander (hits back button) - does this increase visits?
I see the values of Visits and Unique visits in Voluum are almost the same - 193 vs 191 so, I can not understand where these 44 visitors came from (149 at traffic source, 193 registered in Voluum).
This is 30% difference.
Can you explain?
Thanks

It could be several reasons like bots, test clicks, moderators. It really depends on traffic source.
With more traffic discrepancy should be much lower.
You can face with the same issue using literally any tracking software. So no worries.

Some traffic sources do not bill for fake clicks, they still send them to you, but they won't show in stats. That's why you can actually see more clicks in your tracker than at the source. Truth to be told, usually it's the other way around and the traffic source shows somewhat more than the tracker, due to the clickloss or data manipulation on behalf of the source.
The backbutton script can also inflate the numbers a lot, but since you mentioned all the visits are unique, this shouldn't be your case.

The difference isn't that big so it's also possible that your traffic source and Voluum understand 'yesterday' differently. They might be operating in different time zones so in the end, the reports might be presenting different time ranges.
By default Voluum's time zone is set to (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada). You can check and change it in your account's settings in 'General settings' tab.

Oh yes, timezone settings can play a role here too! I remember I wanted to mention this in my reply too, not sure how I fogot about it

Thanks for bringing it up Karolina!
