Quality Issues

Just saw this post by @jaybot:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...772-PAUSE-Push

I wrote an email yesterday about that topic - but haven't sent it out to customers of the $1 guide yet because I wanted to finish one more email and schedule them together for tomorrow.

Then today I got news from Flor that some affiliates were informed to stop running the smartlink due to quality issues.

Not all - only a few - and some were only told to stop running certain geos and not the entire push smartlink.

This was something Flor and I talked about when I wrote the guide - the agreement was that:

1)There would be a cap on the initial number of conversions, after which Mobipium would need to evaluate quality before allowing the affiliate to continue, and

2)they will still pay for conversions to date (for as long as the cap is respected of course).

This is already the best case scenario. We hear stories of networks not paying affiliates for the outstanding balance even when all of the affiliate network's requirements are followed and requests honored.

Here's the email I wrote, that will be sent out to all customers tomorrow:

Subject:

STM’s $1 Guide Tips - Beware of Mobipium

Body:

Hey - it’s Vortex again. Excuse the clickbaity headline - I’m not emailing to bash Mobipium. I have something you NEED to know about running their push smartlink, so had to get your attention somehow.

First I want to talk about lead quality and affiliate networks in general. Then I’ll tell you how Mobipium handles lead quality when it comes to that push smartlink we’re running.

Every conversion we get is essentially a visitor that has clicked “Allow” to give permission for the owner of the offer to send ads to them via push notifications.

When the visitor clicks “Allow”, the conversion is finished for us affiliates, and we get the commission. But that’s not the end of the story.

Remember the offer’s owner needs to pay the network and us affiliates in order to build that list of push subscribers - so they’d need to make their money back when they send ads to the list.

Now, not all subscribers will be responsive, i.e. some will engage with the ads to convert and make the offer owner money, some won’t.

And they keep track of how much they’re able to make from the visitors EACH AFFILIATE has sent them.

If the owner is able to make back the money they pay to the aff network (and us) plus a profit, then everyone’s happy and life is good.

But when the subscribers are so non-responsive that the owner does not turn a profit when sending ads to them - that’s when they have a problem.

Whenever that happens, they would tell the aff network, “hey - affiliate ID 12345’s visitors are not giving me enough bang for the buck, so I don’t want to continue paying for their traffic.”

In turn, your AM would say to aff ID 12345, “hey, your visitors are low quality, we can’t continue to pay you, so please stop sending traffic.”

The big question now is: Do we affiliates still get paid?

Answer: It would depend on each particular situation and on the particular affiliate network.

Since this type of thing happens all the time, instead of dreading it, we need to be proactive to minimize damage. Here’s what we do:

When running a new offer, don’t rack up too many conversions to start.

Get SOME conversions, then pause traffic and ask your AM if you’ve made enough conversions for them to do a quality check, and if so how long it would take - it will vary from offer to offer.

Then, wait to get the green light from your AM, and THEN resume traffic.

Even after that, it would be good to check with your AM on lead quality from time to time if you’re running high volume - just in case quality drops.

Now - specifically about Mobipium: To guard against this typical of misfortune, they’ve set a daily cap of 2000 conversions per day.

This gives them a chance to evaluate your traffic quality to make sure it’s acceptable, before you decide to scale to the moon.

So what if the quality isn’t acceptable? Mobipium told me that they would let the affiliate know about this, and still pay for the conversions up to that point.

And keep in mind that they look at each geo separately. So if you’re running multiple geos, lead quality may be acceptable for some but not others - and Mobipium would just tell you to stop target the ones with bad quality.

The important thing here is to check your skype and email often, so that when Mobipium tells you to stop sending traffic from a geo, that you do so right away.

After all, when the offer owner doesn’t make money, the aff network won’t make money, and neither would we affiliates.

We need to do our part to make sure everybody’s happy so we get paid.

That’s all for now! Please stay tuned for other emails from me.

Of course, nobody likes to be told to pause traffic on a profitable campaign. But this is definitely one of the major lessons an aspiring affiliate needs to learn - and to be learning this so early on in one's affiliate marketing career without a non-payment is really the best case scenario.

Here are some potential solutions to this issue:

1)Test other pop sources.

2)Test other traffic types.

3)Test other push smartlinks from other networks.

I may do some testing to make more-specific suggestions later.

Another option - which an aspiring affiliate will need to do sooner or later - would be to move away from push smartlinks altogether. Go through the 40-day tutorial to learn how to run other types of offers on pop using landing pages. Then go one step further to learn how to promote offers on push traffic - so that you'd be on the other side of the fence. Instead of being paid to COLLECT push subscribers (which is what you've been doing by promoting Mobipium's smartlink), you'll be paid to MONETIZE those subscribers by sending them to other offers.

My intentions with the guide was to help people get started in affiliate marketing - it was never meant for aspiring affiliates to JUST keep running this one offer.

Still though, let me see if I could find a way to circumvent the quality problem.

I'm proud of everyone for giving this guide a try, and am happy to see all the encouraging results.

Thanks Amy, I figured it was something like that

For the record, I was one of the lucky ones who was told to stop because of low quality. Never came close 2000 conversions, 191 to be exact, but no one knows what kind of quality the leads are after you get the conversion. You can really only get that info from your AM.

Flor got back to me and we worked out a way to test the quality of specific Geos at a time; and when to Stop sending them traffic again. I will update as it progresses.

Fwiw, I'm also hopping around* the 40 day pop tutorial as well. Finally a decent offer+lander combo working, just tweaking it until it at least breaks even

(Day 27-33, 36, back to 16, 17 and keep repeating that)

Yup Flor gave me a heads up as well:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...um-and-Quality

I saw that coming while I was writing the guide - and made sure Mobipium agreed to pay for conversions up until the point they inform an affiliate to pause traffic. This is the way affiliate networks SHOULD handle issues like these - but there are still lots of horror stories of non-payment.

Mobipium has been great so far! I'm grateful they're taking good care of all the new/aspiring affiliates the guide has sent their way. Many networks don't even take newbies due to the hand-holding involved. It's bad ROI for them.

And I'm SO GLAD you've moved onto the 40-day tutorial! That $1 guide was only meant to be a first exercise. And even the pop space is a bit saturated now, so after the 40-day tutorial, it would be good to consider giving push traffic a try. Many newbies seems to be succeeding there.
