Camp rejected due to redirects?

Hello!

As a warning I am 100% new to affiliate marketing and these concepts are pretty foreign to me.

I have been following the 40 day pop tutorial by Vortex for a few days now and I'm LOVING it so far! Having a blast watching my first campaigns get their first conversions! Woot!

However, today I woke up to an email saying my campaign was rejected, after running for over 24 hours. My offer is from Mobidea, traffic source is PropellerAds, and tracking done by Voluum.

I contacted support and was shown this:

Name:	reject.PNG
Views:	19
Size:	54.5 KB
ID:	21543

Here is the reasoning given:

Name:	reject2.PNG
Views:	20
Size:	27.9 KB
ID:	21544

Now here is where I am completely lost: This ad they accused me of using is not related at all to the game download I thought I was running!? I have not made or ever seen this ad they said I was using. I am direct linking a game download, or so I thought! lol

I was told "Check your redirects" by the Propellar Ads support team. Although I'm not really sure how to do that, or where to even start. Again, very new concepts to me. I tried searching the forum but wasn't able to find anything that made sense of it to me.

Ahh the newb struggle is real

Ahhh one of you's gotta know SOMETHING! I'm afraid to run another campaign until I get this sorted out. Afraid it'll happen again cause I have zero clue how it happened in the first place lol

Sounds like an issue with Mobidea fallback redirects. You can turn them off for individual offers you’ve been approved to run in Mobidea under the Advanced tab in the offer info (Mobidea calls it “Safety Fallback”). Read this to learn more about the issue - http://matuloo.com/damn-fallback-red...es-fight-them/

Apologies!! I could have sworned I had answered your queries - I remembering writing out an answer. Maybe I got distracted before I sent it. Weird...

To fix this at Mobidea:

Anyway - like @jimmyvanilla suggested, switching off the safety fallback will likely fix the issue.

(jimmyvanilla already covered how to switch that off for an individual offer. To switch that off for ALL offers, go to the left menu > Affiliate Network > Settings > Safety Fallback tab > switch it off and Save.

Some networks don't have such a setting. In that case, just ask your AM to turn of "Global Redirection for all offers". (They may say no though, or tell you there's no way to do it - but keep reading to see other solutions.)

What is it?

Each offer has requirements as to what geo, OS, carrier, etc. that is accepted. If you send American visitors to a Canadian offer, even if they ARE able to convert, the conversions will almost always NOT count (i.e. the aff network and affiliate won't get paid).

So to avoid "wasting" traffic, most/all aff networks have a system in place to detect whether each visitor you send to an offer, is accepted by the offer or not. And in cases where it's not, would redirect the visitor to an offer that DOES accept it.

e.g. You send an American visitor to a Canadian offer, the aff network would detect that, and instantaneous redirect the visitor to an offer that does accept American traffic.

So what if you, the affiliate, was living in the US but want to view a Canadian offer? How would you do it without being redirected? You can switch off global redirection or safety fallback, but some networks don't allow this.

Solution: You can use a VPN like HideMyAss to set your IP to a US IP, then browse to the offer link. That way you'd see the actual offer page.

The most problematic are offers that only accept carrier/3g/4g traffic - even using a VPN won't get you to the offer, because you'd be on wifi. Unless you're using a phone connected with the particular carrier and using data, you won't see the real offer - you'd get redirected by the aff network because the offer doesn't accept wifi traffic. (There are services that will allow you to browse the web as specific carriers on data, but they're expensive.)

Worse, when reviewers at traffic sources (when they're reviewing your campaign to approve and activate them), THEY would get redirected too - and this is probably what happened to you.

So what do you do?

First of all, check your campaign settings at the traffic source to MAKE SURE you're targeting the correct geo, OS, carrier, browser etc. that are ACCEPTED by the offer.

If all is correct, you can then do one of the following:

1)Switch off global redirection at the aff network as mentioned above, then ask the traffic source to try again. ("I've turned off global redirection now, please try my campaign url again.")

2)Ask your AM for either a)a screenshot of the actual offer (Mobidea provides those automatically in your offer settings for most offers so you don't even need to ask) and send that to the traffic source, or b)the final url of the offer (not the affiliate link, but the final url it leads to), or c)both. ("You were probably redirected by the global redirect because the offer only accepts 3g traffic from Verizon. Please find attached a screenshot of the offer and the final url of the offer.")

(Note: Even if you have the final url of the offer, you may STILL get redirected - try browsing to it yourself first to see if you can see the actual offer.)

3)If the aff network wouldn't allow global redirection to be switched off, and your AM won't provide you with a screenshot or a final url of the offer, you can still try to reply to the traffic source with an explanation. Worth a shot - worst that could happen is your campaign gets rejected. ("You were probably redirected by the global redirect because the offer only accepts 3g traffic from Verizon. But I've verified with my AM that the offer link is correct - it's ABC offer from network XYZ.)

Hope that helps!

Amy

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I owe both of you a beer. lol

That was a great article Jimmyvanilla, now I don't feel so bad seeing the pro's have the same issues haha. I bookmarked that to pass along to the next unfortunate soul like myself. :P Thx man!

Vortex I'm not even mad that your reply never posted, because you've already helped me so much with the 40 day pop tutorial! lol I'm taking the time to do the Code Academy lessons you prescribed before landers. I'm dying to get back into the tutorial though. Gotta be patient I suppose. Many thanks!
