Protecting your computer from hackers, viruses, etc

Affiliate Marketers... has your computer ever been hacked into?

If yes, what did you do to resolve?

So far what I've found online:

1. Run virus program
2. Run spyware program

How to check if you might have been hacked: Type in command prompt: netstat -ano and see if there are Established Connections when all browsers and chat programs are closed.

Best Fix would be to clean install your computer.

But after, it may happen all over again so are there good software out there that can detect and fix?

Thanks

Norton Antivirus /thread

I'm not a super windows user (maybe 1-2years) but it does what I need it to do easily and within a few buttons.

Zone Alarm Free + AVG Anti Virus Free. Light quick and easy if you don't mind looking at ads, which I'm sure you've grown to like ;-)

Also, always make sure when entering in sensitive information that the domain name/ssl certificate is correct, educate yourself on the appearance of phishing domains.

Also try Microsoft Security Essentials (free):
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...ity-essentials

But do not use this by itself, pair it with something like Malwarebytes like others suggested.

Disable your in-browser Adobe PDF plugin. Make the PDFs download instead of opening the browser. Disable Javascript in Adobe Acrobat Reader.

To avoid PDF viruses I'm now using Foxit PDF reader instead of Adobe. It's also not as bloated.

Always keep your Adobe Flash plugin updated.

Keep your data and OS on separate partitions or separate drives. If infected, format and reinstall the OS from scratch.

I have a mac also and you don't really have to worry about anything like this. It kinda puts me off ever going back to windows.

macs are just as susceptible to Trojans and worms as is windows....

Really guys put the kool-aid down for like 5 min.....

There maybe less of overall threats (compared to windows) but to think there are none....is foolish and as apple gets more market share more effort will be put into exploiting macs....

Okay, VALID point! I haven't used windows since XP but from what I can remember I spent about 10% of my time fixing shit that went wrong with it. That's another reason why I stick with Mac. I have a feeling though in the next few years windows are going to make a major come back with their OS in the desktop and mobile markets.

SpyBot Search and Destroy is a free anti-malware application, an old favorite of mine.

Goto http://www.hijackthis.de download and install hijack this. Run The program and paste the log file into the textarea. Click analyze.

I do this periodically and do a quick manual scan of my computer. I mainly focus on the unknown icons.

I run this along with malwarebytes and spybot.

As far as virus programs. To me too many to choose from and everyone has their opinion.

I change out ever so often. Right now I'm running avast free.

I like Kaspersky! You can get it really cheap on boxing day for like $10-$15 for a copy with three licenses.

Just buy Mac.
It will save u ton of time and if you look (and should) on it like money, then Mac is cheaper then PC
More secure, less stressful, better organization...

Yes, Macs are for sure easily hacked. If you don't want to be hacked be very careful on where you go and what you open. Hackers can drop shit on your computer for just opening an email or clicking a URL link on Google.

Worst case you'll have to reformat the harddrive. See if you can boot in safe mode to back up files first prior to wiping.
