Why should I use a VPS?
Hey guys,
I know this might be a very basic question, so pardon me for that :P
I am just curious on why should I ever use a VPS for hosting my landers? I mean I know that with a shared hosting, it can be problematic if any other website in the same server is fishy or if because of some other website the server overloads. I was also told that shared hosting can't handle TOO MUCH traffic.
But how much is too much traffic?
So far I have done okayish $$ with facebook ads and just got into push (because why not) but never realised a solid reason to move away from shared hosting.
Can anyone please shed some light on that?
Because it kinda confuses me when people talk about serverpilot, vultr and digital ocean droplets. It literally goes all over my head because I honestly don't understand why I should use any of those and even what are those.
Thanks a lot

VPS are must when doing volumes of traffic with pop and redirect in order to get the fastest load time of the landing page because you need to show them the page before they can even close the pop up.
Using shared hosting is just fine when doing low volume cpc campaigns. Like around 5k clicks a day. You can also use a free CDN like cloudflare. and page load speed will be almost the same if not better compared to vps.
Few years ago, i have some 4 figure campaigns using shared hosting without cdn. So vps is not a must for every campaign but it can really improve your campaigns performance.

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation. I assume since i am getting into push i would need it when doing high volume..
Secondly what vps would you recommend? I heard many use vultr + serverpilot? Should i go with that as well?
Thanks again

Yes vultr and serverpilot works great.
But if you dont mind doing few server configurations. You can skip serverpilot and just use Vultr with installed ubuntu lemp or lamp stack. Ftp process is always the same either using serverpilot or not.

Thank you. So just to be sure I would only need serverpilot when I am hosting dynamic pages right, for static html, I am ok with just using a VPS I believe?

Serving .php or .html files can be done with or without serverpilot. Its just that using serverpilot allows you to setup the server, add domain name and install ssl without using linux commands via ssh which is a little more technical but vultr have guides on them that you can just copy and paste.
But using serverpilot is great. You will save yourself from doing manual server configuration.

You could try sever avatar as well. Its same as server piolit. But server piolet charges 5$ for each side, while server avtar is 5$ per month for unlimited sites.

You basically just answered your questions right there
Shared hosting can handle a decent amount of visits, BUT ...
- how fast will the pages load? With certain types of traffic, the speed can affect your profits a lot. I've used shared hosting many times in the past, sometimes it didn't really matter when the page took 3 or 5 seconds to load, but with paid traffic it does matter.
- what if it goes down because someone screws something up on the server and it happens during the night, when your campaigns are running?
- some LPs use scripts, those are often limited with shared hosting ...
Shared hosting can work just fine, for small blogs for example, but in performance marketing you simply need to up the game a bit. A solid VPS is a minimum I'd say.

With a good VPS you have dedicated resources for yourself.
The main difference is also that you have full control over your servers, whereas most shared hosting providers will never give you root access.
Here you can install only the software that you need (web server, PHP), instead of shared hosting that needs to be more universal and support all kind of applications.
Another advantage => you can setup your VPS in a geo close to the one where you intend to run your campaigns. All of this basically in seconds.
ServerPilot is great, it enables you to quickly setup your server if you don't want to or have the knowledge to mess with the command line.

You are right. Makes total sense. Once things start scaling, can't risk losing a single day of profit because of faulty backend. Thank you for the explanation

Those are some amazing points there, specially about having full control and having it on a geo nearby. Interesting. Thanks a lot for the explanation Erik

BTW, I just followed your push ads journey and it helped me get my first profitable campaign on ZP

So thanks a lot for that as well
