Help - How Do I Monetize a 200k Adult Dating List? (11)

Hi Everyone,
I setup a whitelabel adult dating site about 6 years ago and part of that was collecting single opt-in email addresses as people were joining the site.

I stopped focusing on the project years ago, but it kept getting seo traffic and has built up the list.

The stats are:
* 200k single optin list
-- Mostly USA emails
-- From people in the process of joining an adult dating site
-- BUT most of the email addresses are years old
* currently about 10 new opt-ins a day at the moment from SEO traffic.
* currently hosted on YNOTMail


Current Issues
- I really do not know what the deliverability of YNOTMail is right now (I have not focussed on email for years)
- I don't know how clean the list is or how responsive.


So my questions are
[1] Any advice on the best way to monetize the list? Either myself or renting/selling it?
[2] Any advice on Good Managed Email Services which have good email deliverability and allows adult dating?

Not sure about the rates, but ynot is a popular solution in the adult industry being used by many large players, so I assume they have their shit put together. They also have (or used to have) pretty high rates, so I would expect them to work as good as possible. Naturally, delivery of adult stuff will be somewhat lower, but that's something you need to count with.

I did a similar thing with a list I collected over the span of a few years and the numbers were rather shitty to be honest. Very low open rates and very low engagement. I think that people use "throwaway" emails to subscribe for adult stuff a lot. So they create an email at some free service, subscribe and then never check the email again.

But you won't know until you try, right?

There are several options to try :

1. Try to send a blast via ynot. Put some basic copy together and try to promote a dating offer, to see what happens. You would at least get an idea about the list and how much alive it still is. Just make sure the advertisers takes email traffic.
2. Rent the list or have someone else handle the mailing. I did a deal with "gamma entertainment" when I tested the old list I mentioned. They had all the setup needed for this, including deals with paysite owners etc ... they should still be doing this I believe.
3. Some dating offers accept "email passing" traffic. So you send them clicks with the email address embeded in some token... I think trafficmansion is doing this. Maybe even a custom deal would be possible... give them the email DB, they email these people a confirmation message and those who confirm will "turn into DOI leads" that you would get paid for. It's not that "standard" deal, so you need to ask about this.

Personally, I would start with a "test blast" myself, just to get a feel of what the list is worth after those years.

A few followup questions

1. I've been out of Adult dating for years, so any tips on who to send the 'test' blast of traffic to?
-- Since I'm not sure about quality of the traffic, I could just send it to Adult Friend Finder or ALT (since I still have an account with them) on PPS or Revshare and see how good it actually is.
-- OR I could send it to a SOI or DOI adult dating offer which is ok with email traffic. Any ideas or tips on which sites and/or affiliate networks are doing well at the moment?

2. If you don't mind - can you please pm me how much were you getting per email from gamma for renting the list (so I have a ball park figure to work with <grins>)

The key here would be that they are ok with it. The offers in the affiliate networks are changing all the time, so it's not like there is one offer that is the best. Try to ask in the networks you have an account with first. Then maybe check out trafficmansion guys or thedatingnetwork.

We had a revshare deal, so I would get 50% ( I think, it's been a long time) of whatever the list sells. The results were poor though, large part of the list was dead. So we stopped mailing out after 5 or 6 attempts. We did see some sales for sure, but it was very low number.

Send them a mail, remind them how they signed up and why/where, ask them to verify with double-optin link and keep the once confirming directly. Try this 2-3 times with a different subject line.

Delete the once who didn't open, the once bouncing and the once not confirming for DOI.

You probably end up with a small amount, but a small amount of good quality mails will do MUCH better than a 200k database like it is now. It's better for performance (ROI), but also better for the reputation. Send stuff out of the blue, especially adult/dating, will result probably in lots of spam complaints...

After this, start testing with all kinds of affiliate offers. People who are into adult also need an insurance for example ;-)

IF you want to monetize this list in short time without even care about the long term, message companies like VIP Response, Mint Global etc, they monetize lists on a daily base and might be able to squeeze a good x.xxx per month (depending on quality ofcourse)

If I just blast the list with an offer to see what the response rate is ... the list will probably have a poor reputation due to spam complaints wouldn't it?
So I could ask for a double opt-in to also see how repsonsive they are.

Any ideas? Or anyone done this before and does not mind sharing a template that worked (instead of me re-inventing the wheel) <grins>

You're best bet is to not market another dating offer since you are going to compete against yourself. 1. If you are don't know a lot of details about your list consider to blast it with adult smartlink. With good type of manipulate in this it might go really hot. If you know about their age for example, look for some good single offer.

Smartlink could work, but many of the offers in rotation with most smartlinks are quite shady ... I'm afraid it could result in a few phishing reports or something like that. Would probably cause some flags.
