Facebook Pixel Data - General Store

If I am running a general e-comm store that sells products from different niches, how effective would my purchase look-alike audience based off of FB pixel data be?

For instance, if most of my pixel data was based on sales of an iphone case and now suddenly I am trying to promote a coffee mug, it wouldn't be very effective to run a look alike audience based on past purchases using the FB pixel data gathered from my store?

I see several general stores that promotes products from different niches, just wondering how they are able to use look alike audiences. Maybe they are just targeting interests specific to each of the products niche and not using look alike audience?

I can imagine they use product category type of look-a-likes (iphone accessories, kitchen stuff, funny gadgets), which makes it a bit more pinpointed. On the other hand I can imagine FB has data divided in people who buy gadget-type/low budget stuff, but also people who spend money on a-brands like gucci for example. In this case the pixel might be able to feed you with the lowest type of buyers (assuming your general store sells coffee mugs and those kind of products, as you mentioned above.) Not sure how accurate that would be ofcourse.

Thanks @stickupkid, I really appreciate you answering my threads!

"I can imagine they use product category type of look-a-likes (iphone accessories, kitchen stuff, funny gadgets), which makes it a bit more pinpointed." How do you create product category type of look-a-likes? I didn't know this is possible. Only way I can think of is to create a "saved audience" based on a specific interest, then create a look-a-like based on the saved audience.

For example, if I am selling the iphone case: Create a "saved audience" with interest "mobile accessories" --> then create a look-a-like audience based off of this saved audience. Is this what you meant?

Thank you

Let's say I sold around 1000 iphone cases - probably I am going to use the LLA on similar iphone products (chargers, usb cables etc). This way you fill the pixel (again) with only iphone related people ofcourse. This you can do on another account regarding kitchen stuff for example etc etc.

By the way I am not saying they DO it like this, but I can imagine it can work like this.

Thanks, that makes sense. So the supposedly "general" store that I have, which has sold mostly iphone cases, means the data collected by my pixel are mostly people interested in phone accessories. This allows me to create an LLA suitable for selling other phone related items, as you mentioned, such as phone chargers/batteries etc.

But if I now want to sell kitchen stuff (coffee mug, etc.), the current pixel wouldn't work very well (as data is mostly phone related accessories). I would need to build a new Shopify store with a fresh pixel so to gather data for kitchen products, correct?
