top ranking domains for high value search terms (UK)
This is for a little follow along im working on.
Just as a little teaser.
I grabbed from google UK the top 2500 high competition keywords by local search volume that had a min CPC of £0.50 (exact match).
Here is a sample of the top volume keywords:
compare the market
cheap flights
cheap holidays
flights
cheap car insurance
cheap train tickets
dresses
htc desire
htc wildfire
hotels in london
curtains
bridesmaid dresses
cars for sale
engagement rings
hunter wellies
garden furniture
flights to new york
cheap hotels
deal or no deal
all inclusive holidays
diabetes
holidays 2011
I then ranked them by total value (CPC x VOLUME) and fed the top 1781 into one of my google scraper scripts.
Note: Total value for compare the market is £243,150.85 per day.
This script basically looked at the rank for each of the top 50 sites in the UK.
Then it applied a scoring algo to rank the sites from the top 50 list. A site in position 1 for a keyword would get 10 points, position 2: 2.5 points, position 3: 1.1 points, etc.
The result is the table below.
It shows each of the domains I tested against the 1781 keywords, and the number of times it was ranked (TOT column), and how often it was ranked in each position.
"So what?"
Now what if you had a list of all keywords in your market/niche, and compared the "ranking performance" of a bunch of sites where you can host your content, like "squidoo".
Would you not be interested to see how easy it is to rank?
Thats what I hope to demonstrate with this little side project.

The dynamics of this side project is powerful.
Never looked at it that way.
