MGID Sending Malformed Widget IDs
I just started a campaign on MGID and when I looked at my tracker, I see widget IDs like:
5633835s730502
5633835s731856
5633835s738375
5633835s738377
5633835s741949
5633835s743560
5633835s743915
5633835s748514
The first set of digits appears to be the real widget ID (5633835), separated by a 's', and followed by a string of random numbers.
Because each these lines count as a unique widget ID to my tracker, I can't optimize this campaign.
I reached out to my tracking software support (Thrive) and they said these are the actual widget IDs MGID is sending.
I sent an email to my AM at MGID and CCed their support but I haven't heard back from them yet.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or am I just really "lucky"?

It’s not malformed, that’s how some of their widgets look like and they are all unique.

Yes and no.
I learned from another source that MGID sends widget and placement ID. So 5633835 is the publisher, 730502 is where they placed it on their site, and they use 's' as a delimiter.
So now I'm wondering how to optimize campaigns with this widget ID format. Should I optimize, just based on the widget ID or should I optimize by widget ID and placement or something else. Hmm...

I've always optimized by treating them all as unique.
Some sources may have better sub sources than others. We just test them as we would any other widget id

For the most part its the same as Revcontent, only differences are a) MGID adds that first half onto all the placements from one site, whereas Revcontent doesn't, and 2) MGID tends to have way more widgets than Revcontent in my experience.
I would still optimize it the same way, but if you see lots of those sub-id's from one parent id all doing bad, you might just start blocking the entire parent id. There's definitely cases where one website can have both good widgets and bad widgets, due to more accidental clicks in some places, different quality of click depending on widget location, etc, but I would still wager it's relatively uniform and the poor performance of 5 sub-widgets would likely indicate a bad parent widget, etc.
With all that said I could never get MGID to work to save my life, so I certainly don't have any firsthand knowledge of how to succeed on it

Hey, Bluemarble.
Thanks for your post. Yes, these are the actual sub-ids, and they should be treated and optimized as separate widgets.
Regarding the email to your AM and support - would you mind to provide us with details in PM, just to make sure they'll give you a detailed explanation.
Thanks

This is the right approach. We always advise not to block the entire parent id and be more precise with optimizing the sub-ids. Thanks!
We also posted a thread, which is kinda connected with this discussion. Take a look -
