Native Ad Network With Best Targeting Options?

For affiliates running successful campaigns on Native, do you think some networks provide better targeting options than others? Or are some better in general/overall for affiliates? Which native traffic source should one start out with?

They all have pretty similar targeting options - you can target/optimize by publisher (blacklisting bad sites, whitelisting good ones to target, etc); geo or specific regions or states within geo's'; device type; device brand; operating system; internet connection; browser; time of week; time of day; the list goes on and on. Some also have various versions of 'auto-optimization' you can use where their algorithm bids up or down depending on how likely they think an impression is to yield a conversion for you.

As far as which network is best, that's very subjective and depends on what kind traffic you're going to be running. Outbrain and Taboola are sort of the 'gold standard' in native, and are very large, but only allow very clean stuff (lead-gen, some gadgets, etc), while Revcontent and MGID have more of the proverbial 'bot traffic' and are smaller but also allow more aggressive stuff like health vsl's, some nutra, some ed stuff, supplements, etc.

I would recommend 1) reading every post on stm you can find on natives by using the search bar, 2) getting adplexity native and spending a couple hours a day studying it figuring out the lay of the land, and 3) at that point committing to spend a couple hundred bucks at at least 3 or maybe 4 of the networks, so you can get a feel for them.

Each one is different even though they are so similar. Its kind of like driving one type of car or truck vs another type. They're all vehicles but they can be very different in operation. You may find 1-2 networks really mesh with your personality and the 1-2 others don't mesh with it, and I think its nice to know that up front (that's not how I did it, but I wish I did).

Jack, I like your comparison about cars. Also agree with your note on targeting and optimisation. What I might add here is that some networks/DSPs operate on CPC other on CPM basis. Some do offer Account Manager's support to every new Advertiser, regardless of the $$. Some have a more user-friendly interface or a more clear documentation etc.
@regjoe - take the 3 pieces of advice of Jack's and find your best one
