Different methods of optimization? (7)

Different methods of optimization?

Hey there!

I have another Noobie question - it is related to optimization.

So far I've learned a LOT just by going though @vortex's 40 day tutorial and runnning + optimizing my first few offers.

I've learned about and tested many ways to optimize - Choosing winning landers, blacklisting + whitelisting placements, Device types, ISPs, Browsers, Bids, Traffic sources, etc.

The question:

The process I currently use (from what I understand to be best practice) is:
- Choose offer
- Get 4-5 landers and test traffic from a good source
- Choose best performing lander and test more traffic to it
- Start to blacklist placements (or whitelist if there is one that is doing really well)
- Start to place more restrictions based on other variables (device types, browsers, ISPs, etc)
- Test different bids (I love Vortex's method on this!)
- Perhaps scale to different traffic sources

Is this generally how high level AM is done?

Is this what the process looks like for the pros?

Sometimes I find myself choosing combinations of specific variables that have a positive ROI so much that I get very little traffic because of how specific my traffic settings are.

I would love some feedback as well as some other methods / systems that you guys found to work

- Anthony

you need to test less variables, test two lps from the start to maximize the data u can work with, then pick the winner, etc and find more lps like it

like for push camps, i start with two lps, and 10 ads, and then run for 24 hours, and then kill the shitty ads, and leave the best 3-4, and make more like these (variants)

i only block a placement if it spent offer payout 2-3x..

i never really touch variables beyond these .. because u can kill of most traffic...

Yup that's the gist of it!

Regarding the lack of traffic: This is why it's so important to focus more on testing and scaling, and less on optimization. Pop volumes are fragmented so ideally, we wouldn't want to do a lot of cutting unless it's a big geo with lots of traffic - think US and ZA on the biggest networks.

Do you find that your ROI's are near positive after this process? Every offer I have tested has never had more than a -60% ROI straight off the bat. I'm wondering if perhaps I'm testing wrong or just testing the wrong offers?

One thing too is you can't really expect to make great money just plain ripping and sticking, it takes a bit more effort in your own creative mind to gear up some good ROI.

Should I instead be trying even more landers to try and find better ROI's, or just move on to different offers?
The offer plays a HUGE role in it too, so many times a great lander never gets to show its true power if your offer sucks. Its a hassle of course jumping from network to network a lot, but really its quite vital in my opinion as a great offer tanks out other gems are uncovered. Its a fast paced industry.

Also I would suggest testing higher payout offers, I know you can make the tiny ones work but I've found it much easier to get higher payout offers going although you have to risk more in testing in the beginning. The lower ones have done a great job at showing you how to optimise and setup camps/tracking, you're learning much more then you realise and the action is really awesome to see Keep the momentum up my friend!

Wow - this is great advice!! Thank you I have applied to some $1-$2 offers and got some recommendations from my AM as well.

Really looking forward to seeing how things turn out!
