I've been fiddling around with promoting some offers via facebook pages (javascript pop-out). I can get a decent CTR (.2+) using fan pages but all of the "clicks" I'm paying for don't actually translate to real visits to the offer since FB is charging for likes, etc.
So I duplicate the ad using an external URL instead of a fan page. So far CTR for this page is absolutely horrid. From a steady .2+ (fan page) to .04 (url)...
Is this normal? I've tried it multiple times with different offers, ads, as well as URLs and haven't been able to get anything to come close to fan page CTR.
Any tips? Am I missing something?
I've heard that fan pages will generate a higher CTR due to the likes being counted, have you been tracking the income against them both? What's the point in paying $0.05 cent clicks if it turns out 1 in 10 actually hits your landing page? Probably a bit extreme but I haven't really pushed fan pages in a good few months and don't have any data to hand.

Facebook gives better placements for pages in addition to the "like" counting as a click. I have never had much success using pages for a one off click arbitrage campaign. It works great if you have a plan to monetize the page through promoting something over time to the wall, building an email list or whatever. But otherwise like you say most people are not clicking through.
Thanks guys, gonna fiddle with this a bit more.
