💩The Wakeboarder's Memo Book: Important Things I Learned Last Month - Vol 3 📈
Hello STMers!
This is my second time I'm writing this post, now in Grammarly. A few days ago I wrote the whole post directly into the forum and when I submitted the form my session expired and I got a log-in screen.
Lesson learned. Don't write long directly on the forum.
Anyway, April is almost here are the most important things I learned when working on the Wild Boar Liquidator project and Adnalytics - Pinterest Intelligence Tool.
Let's dig into!
CONTENT MARKETING
I realized that I need to produce tons of
valuable content to support sales of the Pinterest tool. People don't know a lot about Pinterest because they are not using it. But good thing is that there is almost 0 content on the web regarding Pinterest advertising. I see the opportunity so I decide to find a way how to produce a lot of content without breaking the bank.
Articlez.com
From a few friends, I got a recommendation for this service. I just ordered first articles so I cannot comment on the quality. But I can say they are cheap, they respond fast and they are claiming that writers are also PPC experts.

I'm a bit skeptic about it, but let see.
Nick Kolenda
This is my favorite blog regarding psychology & marketing. Actually, I believe that every eCom business owner should read his posts. They are really in-depth and mindblowing.

Read one of his posts and let me know what you think. I believe you will enjoy it!
Local marketing guy
Quality
Ghost-writers PPC are expensive ($150-200) so I decided to run some experiment.
I contacted a local guy who is working in marketing and I know he is passionate about copywriting. After a rocky start, I developed a process and now I get 1-2 article about Pinterest per for 25 EUR / article.
Here is the process
1) Open a spreadsheet and write down headlines
2) For each headline get 5 useful links (articles, resource, ...)
3) For each headline prepare a short brief in 5 sentence
The point is that I do the research for him because I know what content is crap and what is good after I read the article for 1 minute. So he saves time and he can be focused on writing the article. When I publish the blog for Adnalytics I will show you the blogs. We have 3 now and I think people will like them.
PODCASTS
I love podcasts and a few weeks ago I found out that I can listen to the
podcast on 1.5x or 2x speed.

I really don't know how I did not use it before. Now I can consume almost 2 times more valuable content per day.
Here are my favorite 3 podcasts:
1)
The MFCEO Project - Andy is a beast.

I like this when things are fucked up because it has a very positive impact on my mindset. It keeps me sharp.
2)
Masters of Scale -
Reid Hoffman and interesting guests are sharing start-up related stuff.
3)
Zero to IPO - New podcast that's talking about startups and the particular stage of a company’s growth cycle with.
WORK PROCESSES
Because
writing processes is time-consuming I found out that recording the video is much more convenient.
https://screencast-o-matic.com/screen-recorder
I'm using this service and it's amazing. It's free for recordings below 15 minutes.
INSTAGRAM
I'm not spending so much time on Instagram anymore as I moved my focus more on YouTube. You can read more about it later on.
Social Blade
This is a great free tool that shows you daily followers growth of any profile. Very handy!

Limit DM
When sending out automated DM (eg. cross-promotions for YT to new followers) I found out that there is a limit at 120 / day. If you send 120 messages IG blocks you temporary.
I have now this limit to 80 and it's working without a problem.
Instagram Story Hashtags
Hashtags are available now in stories. I tested a few days but without any impact.
YOUTUBE
As mentioned above I'm more focused now on YouTube. For the last two weeks, I was reading a lot about YouTube, SEO, ranking factors, etc. and I see huge potential. After I did basic research I noticed that hunting videos in Germany that are on top spots are not optimized at all. I have a new challenge now: Get my father on
#1 position for YT keyword
wildschweinjagd.
TubeBuddy
This is the Google Chrome Extension I'm using for research, analysis etc. A very valuable tool.
https://tubebuddy.com
Keyword research
For now, I'm doing keyword research in a traditional way. Checking what's YouTube Auto-suggest throws out when I type in
wildschwein.
Average Session Length
It looks like this is the most important metric to get a boost from YT. When I figured this out, I changed our initial strategy for YT.
The initial strategy was to create 50 2-3 minutes long videos. But now when I know how important is average session length I decided we will do fewer videos but they will be longer. Videos on top spots in my niche are around 12 minutes. We will go with 15 minutes and see what happens.
TECHNICAL STUFF
I don't know how to code, but I really like the feeling when I
connect two APIs without writing a single line of code.
Zapier. This is amazing how powerful a service this is.
Let me show you how I use Zapier on projects.
Fulfillment Center + Tracking Issue
We are using Logistiko.pl fulfillment center and they don't have
Shopify integration. So in the beginning, we were manually pasting tracking codes from fulfillment center to
Shopify.
Here the Zapier kicks in!
1) There is a tool Parse Emails by Zapier. I opened a new mailbox and set in our fulfillment center to send all emails with tracking codes to this email address.
2) Zapier is listening and every time this mailbox receives a new email it parses all the data and save it
3) Then I connected Zapier Webook with Shopify Fullfilment API and update the order
That's it! Out customers are now again receiving emails from Shopify. All I needed to do is to read Shopify Fullfilment API docs.
Bug with Pinterest Tool
Last month we had a bug and for 8 days the tool did not write new Promoted Pins into the database. But the worst thing is that no one noticed that.
I asked our backend guy if he can put somewhere online the file where I can every day see how many new ads did we found out yesterday.
After that, the process is very easy in Zapier.
1)
Read the file with Zapier Webhook and GET
2)
Save the data from step 1 and update Google Spreadsheet
3)
Send the notification in our Slack that
With this bot, I can now easily see every morning if we had some issues the previous day.
There are tons of other stuff that you can do with Zapier. If you are not using it, give it a try!
RANDOM
Repeat
I'm not sure why, but for the last two weeks, I'm listening on repeat 3 songs. Somehow I think I'm more focused if I'm listening to the same song over and over again. Weird, I know.
And of course, here is a service for that.
https://listenonrepeat.com
Gym
As we're getting closer with the soft and later big launch with the Pinterest tool and at the same time I'm scaling the Wild Boar Liquidator project, things get hectic sometimes.
So every day I stop working at 3 pm, I'm going to the gym for 1 hour, then I eat some healthy food and I finish with 25 min meditation. When I come back in the office it feels like a hard-reset on iPhone.
That's all guys!
If someone is using Zapier, please share some Zaps that you have built.
Cheers,
wakeboarder
