Tracking Facebook in Voluum (12)

Tracking Facebook in Voluum

Hey, this might be a real noob question but I can't manage to get my head around it. I've got 2.5 questions:

1) Since FB ads seem to have quite good tracking options, do I also double-track my campaigns in tracker like Voluum?
2) How do I connect the two?
2.1) Is there a good forum thread that explains how to set it up?

I've gone through FB and Voluum explainer posts but I'm still not sure if I'm getting it right. Here's what I've done so far:

1) Created offer in Voluum
2) Created Lander in Voluum
3) Created Campaign in FB with link to my lander
4) Put offer links in "BUY NOW" buttons on lander and FB pixel code in my lander's <head>
5) The missing piece I can't get
- When creating Voluum campaign, do I also include the lander here? Where am I supposed to put my campaign URL? In Voluum explainer it says "Destination URL" but my FB campaign doesn't offer such option.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,

Are you interested in creating a campaign in Voluum only?

I am a representative of AdsBridge. If you are looking for a good tracker, I would be glad to help.

I just always wonder why Voluum users pose questions in forum, not to their support. Vestmv, does it get a long time to get a reply from their support manager?

In AdsBridge, you can contact your account manager and get a reply within 1-2 hours maximum. You can also chat and call them in Skype and other messangers. That's all free for you. So I would consider another tracking option.

Anyway, any questions, ping me! Have a great day!

Same as I always wonder why this forum is full of people constantly trying to sell me stuff when I'm just trying to get an answer to a simple question I couldn't figure out myself

But thanks for the tip. As dumb as it might sound, I actually didn't think of asking Voluum support.

Your FB link should be the Voluum campaign link, unless you used the direct tracking pixel they have.

I haven't setup a FB campaign with Voluum so wouldn't be able to guide you through it all but from the sound of it:

Hi Valters!

You should always ask when you're not sure about something! I'm more than happy to help, I know tracking can be a lot to go through at once.

I'll jump straight to your questions then:

1) Since FB ads seem to have quite good tracking options, do I also double-track my campaigns in tracker like Voluum?
Sure, FB ads have good tracing options, which should be ok to get some data. Voluum can help you in optimizing them with our AI solutions and understanding better the quality of the traffic you buy from FB. So I would say it's worth using to be more profitable with your campaigns.

2) How do I connect the two?
2.1) Is there a good forum thread that explains how to set it up?
I can't think of a forum thread, but Voluum has a step-by-step guide on setting up Facebook ad tracking in Voluum properly.

You can find it in Voluum Knowledge Base (I strongly recommend checking it out, the articles there are very beginner-friendly!) Using Facebook as a Traffic Source

If you prefer, I can also write a post here about it, but really the article in KB is so detailed it would be a copy of it in most parts The guide walks you through setting URL parameters in Facebook, matching FB parameters with Voluum variables, setting up Facebook as a traffic source in your Voluum panel, creating a campaign in VLM, and then pasting the campaign URL to FB. You'll also find the whole chapter on setting up conversion reporting.

4) Put offer links in "BUY NOW" buttons on lander
Under the CTA buttons, you should add Voluum's click URLs.

If you put the offer url on the lander, there'd be no way for you to know how many visitors are clicking on the CTA. Whereas if you put Voluum's click url, the clicks will be tracked in Voluum.

With all landers and offers correctly added to a campaign in Voluum, the tracker will know exactly how to redirect a visitor through a funnel and track his steps along the way.

5) The missing piece I can't get
- When creating Voluum campaign, do I also include the lander here?
Definitely include all campaign's elements in the Voluum campaign! Only this way you'll able to set up tracking correctly.

Where am I supposed to put my campaign URL?
Copy only the domain name and the campaign ID part of this campaign URL to clipboard. Go back to Facebook's Ad Manager, to the Links section. Click the Build a URL parameter button again. Provide your partial campaign URL in the Website URL text field. Facebook parameters will be added automatically. Click the Apply button. And that's it! It's also explained in the guide.

I haven't setup a FB campaign with Voluum so wouldn't be able to guide you through it all but from the sound of it:

  • If you use the redirect tracking option, you have to add the campaign URL in Facebook. Not your offer, not your lander. The downside here is that FB has not been too friendly with redirects. It wants the URL you put as the campaign URL to be the final destination of users, not a redirect.
  • If you use the direct tracking pixel, from my understanding you have to add the landing page URL as your URL in Facebook. Double-check this with Voluum support if nobody else can confirm it here. This also implies you have set up the tracking pixel of course.
Yes, when you use a redirect tracking method, after creating a campaign in Voluum you'll get a Voluum campaign URL you need to add to FB in a way I described above.

When you want to direct visitors to your landing page without the initial redirect, you need to use Direct Tracking Pixel. Then, instead of a campaign URL you'll get a Direct tracking URL you need to add to FB. Direct tracking URL will consist of your landing page URL and appended cpid parameter at the end.
As Emanuel mentioned, remember that to make the direct tracking method work, apart from completing all the other steps from the guide, you'll also have to modify your landing page code and paste a tracking pixel (you'll get it with the Direct tracking URL after creating a campaign in Voluum - it's the Direct Tracking Pixel mentioned before) within the <head>section of your landing page.

Thanks for the links! The explainers drag you into a rabbit hole, where one link leads to the next while you get 10+ tabs open at the same time. As a newbie it's a bit confusing to jump from post to post if you don't know all the basics that might seem obvious to someone who has created a few campaigns earlier. But combined with your comments it's a lot easier to get a grip around it than just reading the explainers alone. I suggest everyone taking the time to understand it.

For anyone having trouble understanding this in the future, here's a summary:

1) Get offer link from your affiliate network (myofferlink.com)
2) Create offer in Voluum (with your offer link myofferlink.com)
3) Create lander in Voluum (with your lander link amazinglander.com)
4) Put your Voluum Click URL's in your lander CTA buttons (somethinglink.com/click) <-- you can find this under settings/tracking URL's
5) Start creating campaign in Facebook, but stop at "Build URL Paramater"
6) Create custom facebook traffic source in Voluum, according to all facebook paramaters, so you can track it properly
7) Create campaign in Voluum, including the Offer and Lander you created earlier
8) Copy the Voluum campaign URL you just created
9) Paste that campaign URL into your facebook campaign

What I was messing up were points 4 and 9. Seemed a bit like magic to me how the Click URL works, but now it makes sense.

That click URL seems a lot like magic for trackers because the main thought everyone has is "... but how does it know where to send users".

Once you grasp that, all good.

By the way, what you wrote here is a pretty good process in general, so if you ever work with someone or hire, show them this as well Save that in a document for future use!

Thanks for the feedback! I've already shared it with our writer, we're constantly modifying the Knowledge Base so it's good to know your thoughts and perspective.

Good summary

Just a couple more suggestions:

2) Create offer in Voluum (with your offer link myofferlink.com)
Remember to add the {clickid} token to the offer's URL with a corresponding parameter from affiliate network platform.

Also, remember about setting up reporting conversions - when a visitor converts on your offer, this information can be passed back to Voluum. In order for it to work, use either use either S2S postback URL or Conversion tracking pixel.

Not all affiliate network platform support both methods, but if you want to send information about conversion back to Facebook, you have to use the Conversion Tracking Pixel to get information about a conversion from an affiliate network platform.

Thanks vestmv. I was contemplating using Voluum for tracking with FB.
Although I don't plan on using it just yet, but if I do I'll refer to this thread. Thanks to Karolina too!

We've made a few updates since then:

We have a ready-to-use template for Facebook now. It's prefilled with Facebook's tracking parameters so the only thing you need to do is enable direct tracking option, copy target URL from your Facebook pixel and add it as pixel redirect URL to the template and save. Facebook traffic source in Voluum created!

We updated our docs since the last time I posted here - Using Facebook as a Traffic Source - they're full of screenshots and step-by-step instructions, I'd say very beginner-friendly!

If you have any questions or need help (once you decide to use Voluum), I'm here. Just reach out and we can go through the setup together.
