This reminds me of the situation that has hit the adult industry around 2007-2008, when the large tubes emerged and literally fucked the whole adult business. Where there were thousands and thousands of affiliates making decent money from their sites, there were suddenly a couple of megasites that offered everything for free and as a result, large part of the paid sites died and affiliates were leaving the industry by hundreds. But still, the owners of the large tubes all kept on saying how business runs fine. Well it was, but just for them, while the whole industry shrunk to a fraction of what it was before. And it's the same with mobile billing, it still works and generates $$$ for the few who remained in the game because of some edge they had... but the party is over for a huge part of those who profited from it before.

This is an ideal environment for us to try to figure out what allows certain networks to stay in the game while others disappear from the scene, how to launch and develop a stable business in a constantly changing and unpredictable industry and what enables a good network to become a great one.

We traveled to Amsterdam to talk to Jeroen Rozemeijer, СЕО at YepAds, hoping that we would be able to shed some light on the questions we raised.

We talked to Oliver Kenyon, a founder of AffiliateFix, the largest affiliate forum in the world.
AffiliateFix founder told us how this platform with an audience of more than 100,000 affiliates was established and how it turned from a small forum into a major company that was subsequently sold and made Oliver a millionaire.

Oliver aspired to create a white hat affiliate community that would enable people to support each other in word and deed, although not always for free. Over time AffiliateFix became the largest platform for open and honest communication between affiliates.

We learned why a forum is better than a Facebook group, even though a community takes much more time and effort to develop than a Facebook page. We also discussed forum monetization and why moving away from selling ads on a monthly contract helped the forum to increase its revenue and strengthen its position.
Oliver sold AffiliateFix, but now he is actively developing other projects: IM.Deals and Landing Page Guys, both of which will be helpful to affiliates.

We visited Affise’s office in Minsk and talked to Stanislau Litvinau, the company’s co-founder and CEO and an affiliate marketing guru.

Stanislau has been involved in affiliate marketing since 2002 and has launched about 20 projects, and therefore he can safely be called an affiliate marketing guru.

During the interview, Stanislau told us a lot of interesting things ranging from how he and his team developed their own tracking software many years ago to Affise’s ambitious plans for the future (Stanislau wants to secure 200 million dollars in the company’s business value).

We learned about Affise’s unique approach to monetization, as they are one of the few tracking platforms that charge for conversions rather than clicks.

During AWE in Barcelona, we met with Ian Fernando, a long-time affiliate, to talk about his career, affiliate marketing and his plans for the future that involve his shift to Amazon FBA.

Past and present

Ian started out in affiliate marketing almost 15 years ago after googling how to make money online. At first, he was reselling stuff on eBay, but later he found out about CPA marketing and immediately got involved in it, as he didn’t have time to work with clients properly. Eventually, he left his 3 jobs and became a full-time affiliate.

On Amazon FBA

After many years in affiliate marketing and his past experience with eBay, Ian decided to shift to E-commerce. During the interview, he breaks down his approach to working with Amazon FBA in detail and discusses how you can make it work. In his opinion, Amazon FBM is a great tool, and so affiliates can actually learn how to work with it and make money on it.

He also explains how to build a business process that started bringing him profit in just a few months and how much investment you need.

On getting your hands dirty

In Ian’s opinion, the best way to learn is to get down to business and start learning and gaining experience, even if it costs you money and resources. It was this approach that helped him learn how to work with Amazon FBA. At first, he was just spending money to gain experience, but now he turns this experience into profit.

During our time in Barcelona, we met with KJ Rocker, a long-time affiliate, author of Rocker Blog, affiliate marketing coach and pretty cool guy.
KJ started affiliate marketing 8 years ago, and he did it without having a stable Internet connection, with 25 bucks in his pocket and a wish to get out of his Pakistani village. And as you can see — he did.

KJ is well-known for his blog where he shares his thoughts and insights into affiliate marketing and motivates people to make money online, and he tries to help everyone he can.
As regards starting your affiliate career, he gives simple advice: learn, be determined and don’t go easy on yourself, you are here to work and get things done, and affiliate marketing is only getting harder with each passing day.
Being motivated is very important, as only one in ten affiliate marketers reach success and actually make a profit. Affiliate marketing is widely considered to be an easy source of income, but in reality it isn’t.
And, of course, we talked about his present-day activities — running his blog, coaching and most importantly — driving UK traffic to financial offers. This is no easy task as financial vertical is one of the toughest and the quality of traffic should be exceptional and KJ and his team deliver.
