Question: Japanese market
Does any one know the Japanese affiliate market?
We're trying to develop there but it seems quite hard to find affiliates there, I did not even find a forum, or maybe japanese affiliates are here ? :-P
Thx for your help!

There's not much of an affiliate community here. There's a couple networks like Linkshare that is owned by Rakuten and a few affiliates. Most affiliates are foreigners living here like me and we are all spread out in different parts of Japan.

Japan is a tough nut to crack, I tried to work with JP traffic for a while and it totally bombed... and apparently, I wasn't the only one as the prices for JP clicks still remained pretty low to this day.
You'd have to partner with some local companies in order to gain presence over there. Last AWA, I talked with some people who target JP markets with adult offers, they stopped at the STM booth, but I'm afraid I lost the contact info
I see some people from JP on every AWC conference though, so might be a good idea to show up there one day. I didn't really see you guys on any conference for many years, so it might be the right time to change that.

Japan is really weird, have tried mimicking across a few campaigns from casino or sweeps, where it had worked in most other geos always tanks in JP. Although Korea has shown promise where JP hasn't...
Anyone had success with Japanese campaigns here?

Well, when I purchase JP traffic on usual networks, I get high customer value (they directly purchase our highest pack) but low volumes...
Your replies make me think that I'm right trying to find an intermediary company over there
In discussion with http://enterstellar.jp/ ATM
will keep you posted

Where are you buying? It was some time ago, but I was able to get a LOT JP clicks from xhamster, for example. You can also try traffichaus, they do GEO based flat buys and JP usually isn't in big demand, so the prices were reasonable.

Always the same story with ad networks... either I get high volume of traff with very low conversions (hilltopads, for instance) or I drastically target (pornhub keywords around "hentai") and I get very high conv but low traff... will see what trafficstars & traffichaus have to offer
thx for the tip

Well, this is the nature of media buying, that's why all of us spend hours and hours on optimization. Bought traffic performs very differently from the standard organic traffic what most of your affiliates are sending you.
BTW: how about email and members area traffic, have you tried that? It's priced way higher but the conversions can be higher too and since you own the product, you should be able to make it work. Check vrume, adnium, exo .. they all sell some

Checking, thanks !
But with MA, we usually get good cross affiliation deals :-P Especially with sites who have the same models as us

yes that's what I meant. Sorry if this sounds funny but I wonder if the hours and hours lost in optimizing these traffic purchases would not be more profitable doing something else...
Do you really make fortunes with media buy once fully optimized ? and when it's optimized, is it stable over the time? Our experiences show that profitability slowly gets down over the time once a campaign is optimized.

Well, depends on what else you would be doing
Media buying is business like any other, it can be very rewarding, it just needs time and experience. There are affiliates who make thousands of $$$ daily, and there are many who are struggling of course.
The stability, when optimized, depends on many factors. Sometimes the campaigns die within days, sometimes they last months, there is really no universal answer here. It's all about developing systems and habits, that allow you to come up with new campaigns quickly. Many people use automation tools, that can speed the process up a lot too.

Take a look at this:
https://xoptimizer.io/
It's a newly released adult version of the popular optimizer.io tool that quite a few people use.
Still in "beta" so it's free to test, I believe.

Japan is a very different market which very different media channels and user behaviours than you may be used to in your home country. It is definitely one of the more challenging markets.

Totally agree with cmdeal. Japan is culturally different in every way and that includes how people use and act on the web (I've lived here 13 years and it's still impossible to work this place out, lol). The intermediary is probably the best option.
