Inconsistent Lander Performance (4)

Inconsistent Lander Performance

So lately I've been running AV and having trouble cutting landers since the performance fluctuates day to day so much within one camp, and also between different camps and geos. I also feel there's some interaction effects between the lander and creatives even though technically there shouldn't be.

This is preventing me from cutting landers since I've witnessed some landers showing 90% dominance over the other one day on the statistically significant calculator, and then dropping to 60-70% the next day. Super up and down.

Just wondering what you guys would do in this situation. Also I haven't found this phenomenon to be the case with other verticals I've tried. Just AV - might be unique to this vertical.

Thanks

I've touched on this in an older article here on the forum, check it out : https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...ow-to-avoid-it

What kind of volume are you running? Large fluctuations are quite normal with lower volumes. It also depends on how big % of the traffic from particular placements you are buying ... The first thing to do is to try to increase the volume and/or optimize based on longer time frames.

Thanks for the article.

I'm running quite low volume, for more accurate data I definitely need to optimize over long time frames but for some of these campaigns seems like the life cycle is really short so can't afford to spend too much to make sure every single decision I make is based on 95%+ confidence.

I hear ya, the thing with low volume campaigns is that they really do perform erratic very often. You can have two or three bad days in a row, just to hit a good 4th one that would make up for all the losses. What can help in many cases, is to focus on a certain target and at least get solid rotation for that isolated target. As an example, let's say you're targeting a spot that sends you 500 clicks a day across all the targets, which might account for 5% of the total traffic that this placement has available. So instead of targeting everything on that spot, try to identify what works the best and try to get more of that traffic. Let's say you are getting better results with samsung android smartphones, so target just that, increase the bid in order to get more of such traffic. In the end, you will get maybe 250 clicks, which is lower than before, but it will be 40% of android samsungs that are on that spot. This way, you will get more consistent data and a better sample of what that particular spot can perform like.

NOTE: I made those numbers up of course, just to explain my point. Basically, you want to receive stable clicks for whatever targeting, instead of a random click here and there.
