Vortex' Easy-Keyword-Sniper Method

Today I want to share a method I've been using to identify easy-to-rank-for keywords.

But first, an update on my SEO adventures (a continuation of my story here: https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...d-my-seo-story).

Nowadays I'm trying to finish the 40-day tutorial (as was promised multiple times - that last lesson on optimization WILL be out shortly!) - but at the same time I'm also brushing up on my SEO skills.

Specifically, I'm going through OMG's course here:

https://omgmachines.com/

It's been a few years since I last took their courses. This new one I'm going through is the Digital Marketing Agent (DMA 2019) System.

In case anyone's curious, here's a peek of what's inside the member's area:

Here's a list of additional resources if anyone's interested...

SEO Ranking Tutorial post created by OMG's lead trainer Greg Morrison:

Moving onto the keyword tip...

Vortex' Easy-Keyword-Sniper Method

I don't know if I'm the first to "discover" this method, but I haven't read about it anywhere yet, so I've taken the liberty of naming it.

It's a simple method really - which is what makes it beautiful. It involves:

-Pasting a number of longtail keywords into google search to identify a whole bunch of relevant websites in the SERPs.

-Identifying sites that are new (i.e. with domain age of 0-1) but has decent traffic (i.e. an alexa ranking that doesn't suck).

-Getting a list of organic keywords of those new sites that are ranking on page 1 or 2 in Google - looking at their backlink profile - and SNIPING the easy ones!

Below is a step-by-step:

1)Compile a list of relevant keywords that includes longtails.

Look for longtail keywords that are very relevant to the site you're wanting to build, that aren’t even getting good search volume. (Don’t worry – we’re not looking for keywords to target on our final site – we’re just wanting to uncover websites in our niche that are less than a year old. If you use hard-to-rank keywords all you'll find are big authority sites which would be hard to compete against.)

You can use any/all of your favorite keyword tools to do this. Either enter a major seed keyword - for example "woodworking" - or the url of a product you're wanting to promote - for example tedswoodworking.com (which btw is a high-gravity product on Clickbank). Export the keywords and any other available data for later reference.

Here are some free keyword tools:

-Moz Keyword Explorer (limited to 10 free searches a month unless you have a subscription) - https://moz.com/explorer

-Google Keyword Planner - https://adwords.google.com/ko/KeywordPlanner/Home

-Ubersuggest - https://app.neilpatel.com/en/traffic_analyzer/

-Keyword Shitter - https://keywordshitter.com/

2)Compile a big list of sites in your niche.

Install these 2 chrome browser extensions (if you’re not using chrome, download it here: https://www.google.ca/chrome/):

a)gfinity: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...ijhpbmkgfabcmn

b)Link Clipper: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d.../related?hl=en

Browse to google.com, do a search on one of the longtail keywords you found in step 1, then scroll down the page and gfinity will automatically display google SERP results for page 2 – scroll down the page some more and gfinity will display page 3 – repeat until no more pages are displayed.

Then right-click on the Link Clipper icon at the top of your chrome browser > Link Clipper > Extract all links, and all the SERP results (plus some “junk”) will be downloaded into a CSV file.

(Member gunar recommends this tool for extracting google serp results - I haven't had a chance to try it yet but please feel free:

https://www.onlinesales.co.uk/...ls/...klet-serps.php)

Repeat for as many of the longtail keywords as you have time for. (Start by doing 10-20.)

3)Merge all the CSV files that resulted from Step 2 and dedupe the resulting list.

Download the free CSV Utility software here:

https://blogs.perficient.com/2011/06...ine-csv-files/

Use it to combine all the CSV files you downloaded in Step 2.

Then open the combined CSV file, copy all the entries, and paste them here:

https://www.orangefox.com/cleaner/

Click "TRIM TO ROOT" and then "REMOVE HTTP VARIATIONS" and then "REMOVE DUPLICATE DOMAIN".

Lastly, you'll need to delete the trailing slash on these domains, or else the next step won't work. Go here:

http://www.unit-conversion.info/texttools/replace-text/

Paste the list of sites into the "Input data" area, put "/" in "Find text" and leave the "Replace with" field blank.

4)Identify sites that have 0 domain age but decent alexa ranking.

Copy the resulting list of sites from the "Output" area from the page in the last step, and paste them into the following pages to find Domain Age and Alexa Ranking:

https://www.bulkseotools.com/bulk-check-domain-age.php

https://massalexa.com/

Unfortunately, there's no function to export the data. But you can do it the old-fashioned way: Click and drag to highlight all data, then copy and paste into an excel spreadsheet.

You can either look at the 2 spreadsheets - one with domain age and the other with alexa ranking - to pick out sites that have domain age of 0 or 1, and an alexa ranking that doesn't suck (I can't give you a cut-off here - it's all relative).

OR: Here's a spreadsheet I made for another purpose, that you can also use here to combine the two sets of data (if you're following the 40-day pop tutorial you'll see this in the last optimization lesson I'll be posting - hopefully tomorrow):

https://www.dropbox.com/s/oawgzq19xl...sets.xlsm?dl=0

Simply go to the "Original Data" tab, paste one set of data into "DATA SET 1" and the other set of the data into "DATA SET 2". There are 3 columns for your 2 parameters (site url and either domain age or alexa ranking) - you can use any 2 columns as long as you use the same 2 for both data sets. Then click on the "Matched Data" tab and you'll see the two sets of data matched up nicely - with domain age and alexa in the same row for each domain.

5)For these sites, find keywords they’re ranking for, to identify keywords that are ranking on first or second page in Google.

ahrefs Site Explorer: Input one of the site urls to do an analysis. Then click on "organic keywords" in the left menu, sort keywords by “Position” and pick ones that rank on page 1 or even 2 (free account can only do 2 sites a day). DON'T CLOSE THIS PAGE YET - we need to check the backlink profile in the next step!

SERanking - Organic traffic research > Keywords > input website to get a list of organic keywords, search volume, and rankings. Sort keywords by "Positions" and pick ones that rank on page 1 or 2.

6)Try to rank for the same keywords.

On-Page SEO: For each keyword, perform a google search and find the SERP listing to see exactly which page on the site is ranking for that keyword. Examine how they do their on-page SEO and imitate.

Off-Page SEO: For each website, check the backlink profile to try to get similar links. There are a ton of free tools you can use to check backlink profile, but I've always used paid tools so can't really recommend any, but google's your friend.

Remember in the previous step when doing a search on ahref's site explorer? You can click on the various links in the left menu under "Backlink profile" to get a list of backlinks and more. Ahrefs isn't exactly a free tool, but you can research up to 2 sites a day for free.

There's also Moz' Link Explorer: https://analytics.moz.com/pro/link-explorer/home

You can register for a free account and get a limited number of searches per month.

Of course some sites' backlink profiles are easier to imitate than others. I would recommend starting with the easier site(s) first, then working up to the more difficult ones with higher numbers of backlinks that are harder to get.

Also worth noting is the fact that, just because these other sites can rank for those keywords within a year or two, doesn't mean you're guaranteed to as well. But your chances of ranking for those keywords would definitely be higher than going after random longtails. There are keyword research tools that will tell you how difficult a keyword is to rank for (e.g. the Keyword Difficulty or KD metric at ahrefs.com) but it would only be an estimate. Whereas with "my" method, we see proof that with a certain backlink profile, and certain on-site content/seo arrangement, relatively new sites ARE actually able to rank for certain keywords.

This reminds me - here's a bonus tip:

Bonus Tip: Cross-reference with Ahrefs' KD metric.

As was mentioned above, some keyword research services will give you an indicator on how difficult a keyword will be to rank.

Although this is an estimate (if it was accurate then there'd be no point to using "my" method), it can serve as validation - making "double-sure" if you will.

So we can look up the KD (Keyword Difficulty) metric for those keywords we discovered in step 5, and only target the ones that have a low KD.

And it doesn't have to be Ahref's KD metric - it can be a similar metric from any reputable tool/platform.

***************

There you have it! Obviously, the more longtail keywords you do this for, the more sites you'll potentially identify that fit our domain age and alexa criteria, and the more easy-to-rank-for keywords you can stand to snipe.

If you'd like to see a more convenient way of doing all this using paid SEO tools, please reply to this post to ask.

Hope that helps to inspire some of you to start some SEO sites as well!

Great post Amy!

I was just thinking about doing something in SEO again, it's been a couple years since I tried for the last time so it's tempting to do it again. And now you gave me some food for thought

Matej.

it removes the cache links and google services and other crap.

Thanks for sharing the tips and the OMG resource @vortex! How is it going? Is there any useful or actionable information there? Have you seen any results or know anyone who has?

I was thinking of getting the OMG DMA course but I became very concerned after looking into OMG.

I signed up to their webinar and to get their ebook and immediately started getting spammed with some sort of amazon hack method, that was essentially a course and software for book arbitrage. The course had more red flags than a May day parade in Moscow.

After investigating further, it looks like this new amazing limited offer amazon hack is just a rehashed old course called Textbook Money. There is a thread on warrior forum of less than impressed people:
https://www.warriorforum.com/interne...n-shugart.html

As well as someone claiming these guys attempted to scrape data from a similar tool:
https://www.fbamastery.com/textbook-...ge-got-punked/

They even use the same domain name all these years, i.e. booktrades.biz

I am now beginning to doubt all other OMG courses including their SEO one, hence my questions.

Normally I would have completely written it off but I thought maybe I'm missing something as surely in a $100/month paid forum like this one, the endorsements should lead to businesses that are at least somewhat solid.

First of all - I want to make it VERY CLEAR that STM does not endorse OMG. I was merely sharing my PERSONAL experiences, nothing more.

Secondly: I wasn't aware that OMG had an amazon course - is it actually by them, or were they doing a cross-promotion for someone else?

Thirdly: I haven't heard of Luke Sample or Jon Shugart, and I just did a search on the OMGMachines site for their names and nothing turned up. I googled a combination of their names and my contacts at OMG, Mike Long and Greg Morrison, and couldn't find anything that indicated that they were collaborating on any products together. Am I missing something?

I'm neither their advocate nor their spokesperson. I don't get paid when anyone purchases their course, or not. As I've mentioned - was merely sharing some personal experience.

And as I've shared in this post, I did get my money's worth from their courses:

https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...d-My-SEO-Story

As for whether other students of theirs are finding success - in their students-only FB group, I see success stories all the time. Common folk that have used their courses to make a full-time income. I just spent 5 minutes scrolling through the most-recent posts and found these:

And those were just from the current month - there are a TON more where that came from. @cochiloco Are you sure we're talking about the same guys?

If you have further questions, I'll see if I could ask Greg Morrison to provide an answer here directly.

I haven no doubt you did find success some time ago when SEO was easier, was mostly asking about now as courses based on past success and what used to work are very common in the make money online space. And you're right, it was not an endorsement, my bad. It just that you're so highly regarded here I kind of think of you as synonymous with STM, but indeed, I shouldn't have said endorsement.

It looks like we're talking about the same people, here is a screenshot of one of the e-mails I received:

And the link to the webinar promotes the course I mentioned.

But anyway, let's just hope it was a poor decision for cross-promotion. To be fair, apart from the e-mails, Greg's name isn't mentioned anywhere else and also not during the webinar.

Thanks,
Alex
Ah OK! Yeah it does look like a cross-promotion. I'll for sure direct their attention to your post Alex.

And no apologies necessary - you didn't say anything wrong!

I do apologize as well if my "tone" seemed more serious than it was meant to be - I just wanted to make it absolutely clear that what I said was my individual opinion and not STM's. Although as you've pointed out, as a moderator, my opinion WILL reflect on the forum - and negatively so if I'm not careful.

In this particular case though, I'm glad to be able to offer proof that these guys are legit. But yours is a good reminder that I should be careful when recommending anything on STM. Thanks Alex for that!

Hi Cochiloco from Amsterdam. I'm Mike Long currently in Miami. Liz Herrera, my partner on OMG, came to me and told me that Jon and Luke have a really solid offer that reminded her of the way she got started on Amazon - basically selling text books.

I looked at the proof elements and that the one person I know who has signed up for Jon and Luke's program is making around $1500/month with it and is really satisfied, so I gave it a go, to share a number of emails from Liz and a webinar on the subject. The reality is there's a lot of ways to make money online right now. It's good days to be an internet marketer.

As far as comparing Jon and Luke's Amazon program to OMG's DMA well that's a staggering difference. OMG has legendary results with our members: https://instagram.com/poweredbyomg Cars and houses: https://omgmachines.com/OMG-Cars people raising their hands in public affirming they've made at lease $100,000 with OMG: https://omgmachines.com/Breaking-news - let me ask you this who has an instagram for client success, a page for people who bought hot cars and houses, or a page for $100,000 in person testimony of success? Much less all of those.

Regarding affiliate promos I do I can't think of one that I've done where people have had some or even a ton of success with. Regardless I don't mean to turn the tide or put you on the defensive. I have no idea what the landscape might look like and without a doubt there are some crazy things that go on in the online marketing world.

The one thing I don't get is, like take the recent scandal with the guy who was breaking the law to get kids into Ivy League schools. Well the crazy thing is there are thousands of people making millions doing the college placement thing LEGIT. I just mean by the law.

So it's like why would you pedal crazy bad stuff in the online marketing world, as an affiliate, when there is so much incredible stuff out there. For example, in 1 week I put almost 2 months worth of normal sign-ups onto STM a few months back. It was an affiliate promo and it was a massive win win for my whole list - most of whom had never heard of STM! Crazy right?
