Returning noob, state of the art in 2019

I was pretty active here a few years ago, I had a couple campaigns reach high xxx/ low xxxx/ day and then dropped out of the game for dumb reasons.

I'm looking at getting back in and not sure where things are at in 2019.

Are app install campaigns on pop still a thing? I just logged into a network I used to work with and don't see any.

What are the best spy tools for pop today?

Voluum upped their cost and killed some nice features like IP redirects and useragent redirects, making cloaking a traffic source harder. Has a competitor for Voluum emerged?

Appinstalls are still being promoted but it got way harder. Advertisers require insane KPIs which makes it very hard to promote. We've seen several stories where networks/advertisers refused full payouts due to lower metrics... I'd stay away from appinstalls, unless you're really good at it.

The industry standard and the most used one is Adplexity, they have several options : pops, native, adult and STM members get a discount : https://stmforum.com/forum/showthrea...or-STM-Members

Voluum pumped up the prices for sure, but they offer some discounts and yearly packages that can drive the prices down. As for competitors, Binom and Redtrack are getting really popular lately. There is also adsbridge, thrive, bemob ... and prosper202 is still in the game too.

Hey thedav and welcome back
Voluum is now much more powerful, hence also new pricing. We've already introduced a few updates after the repricing and have many more to come: just to name a few, Anti-Fraud Kit went out of beta earlier this week (it helps with detecting fraudulent traffic and fighting it), Traffic Distribution AI, also a new feature, automatically adjusts weights of paths, landers and offers in the campaign funnel every minute changing the flow of the traffic to the most optimal one. I know there are trackers that are cheaper but we are focusing on quality as we are here to stay

As matuloo's mentioned in his post, we do offer discounts and yearly packages that can drive the prices down. There's also an exclusive offer for STM members only.

Welcome back thedav!

Pop is most definitely not as easy to make big money from as a few years ago. Competition has risen. Google bans are rampant. And good offers are a lot fewer and further between (and some of those that are good, are capped).

A few things you can do that will help:

-Test more offers and landers than the next person, until your funnel is able to make a larger part of the total traffic profitable (compared to your competition). If cashflow allows, join more aff networks, and consider removing the middleman to work direct with advertisers at your discretion. Build relationships to get the best tips and payouts.

Being more creative on lander design and ad copy, and keeping them out of spy tools, can also give you an edge - if you can figure out how to do the latter.

-Be willing to invest in collection of data, for example to identify good/bad placements in a large geo. This will allow you to make more money from the same traffic available.

-Become better at analyzing data to arrive at an efficient optimization strategy. This can allow you to optimize to green more quickly to minimize losses and start generating profits earlier.

Examples of data analysis:

-Run in the same big geos again and again to benefit from that initial investment you spent. This will make you more efficient and provide the edge over competition that is newer to the scene.

-"https" your domains. That has become a sort of new standard.

-Have multiple domains set up and ready to go at a moment's notice, so that when a site gets flagged by google, you can switch to a new one and keep running.

Also: You can try push notification traffic. It's all the rage right now. If this is what you want to do, go to the Push subforum, read every thread and post, take notes, then start testing away. Many people including newbies are finding success - I wish the same for you.

Last year we interviewed many of this industry's finest, to find out what they feel was "working" in affiliate marketing, and compiled the results into a report. We'll do the same thing this year - starting interviews this upcoming week and ETA for completion would be roughly sometime in March. This report will likely help you to chart your course as well. But no need to wait in the meantime - just get started with something, even just for the sake of getting back into things!

I wish you all the best, and look forward to learning from each other.
