📊 Native Advertising 2018 - The Year in Review

Hey guys, hope you've started this new year on the right path already!

As 2019 has just started, I believe it is the right time to take a moment and have a look back on what happened on natives during 2018.

To get a better idea on what happened during last year, we gathered the stats reported by two of the most reputable sources when it comes to competitive intelligence and web traffic monitoring tools: Adplexity Native and SimilarWeb

The Numbers Behind Native Advertising during 2018
According to SimilarWeb the total number of visits delivered by native advertising networks during 2018 (Dec 2017 – Nov 2018) is more than 12 billion (and this volumes belongs only to the redirect urls we used to create the report)

Ad Network Total Visits Traffic Share Desktop Traffic Share Mobile Monthly Visits Monthly Unique Visitors Avg. Visit Duration Pages / Visit Bounce Rate
Outbrain 4.504B 26.54% 73.46% 375.3M 166.4M 0:01:38 1.48 75.99%
Taboola 4.173B 18.28% 81.72% 347.8M 170.9M 0:01:32 1.49 77.18%
Yahoo Gemini 2.215B 3.86% 96.14% 184.6M 81.44M 0:00:35 1.17 90.37%
RevContent 502.8M 3.55% 96.45% 41.90M 28.51M 0:00:43 1.27 85.38%
MGID 764.1M 22.24% 77.76% 63.67M 42.21M 0:00:51 1.36 81.46%
AdsKeeper 168.9M 22.21% 77.79% 14.07M 9.671M 0:00:33 1.28 83.93%
Content.ad 5.269M 21.83% 78.17% 439K 192K 0:01:08 1.36 83.26%

To translate the above number of visits into campaigns, we went on Adplexity Native and during 2018 only, it has detected more than 330k campaigns. Here’s a quick overview of the total number of detected campaigns from each traffic source.
Traffic Network # of Camps
Outbrain 110815
Taboola 77698
MGID 61388
RevContent 55422
AdsKeeper 8978
Content.ad 8614
Yahoo Gemini 7245

Furthermore, while analyzing the data reported on Adplexity, we noticed that out of 330k detected campaigns 2/3 of the traffic was focused on the following country and language targeting as well as offer networks.

Countries Languages Offer Networks
United States (49967) English (237991) VikingClicks (5367)
United Kingdom (26269) Spanish (46729) ClickBank (5256)
Canada (22707) Portuguese (14963) ClickSure (4271)
Brazil (18900) German (13780) Oasis (3185)
Germany (15188) Russian (13031) RewardsAffiliates (2669)
Indonesia (14956) French (9631) BinPartner (2663)
India (13578) Vietnamese (8389) AdCombo (2504)
Australia (13472) Italian (7372) ClickDealer (1621)
Viet Nam (12805) Indonesian (7175) Advidi (1129)
Thailand (12439) Thai (6974) GiddyUp (1047)

Of course, this year again affiliates already used a big chunk of the native traffic inventory and the below ads from Adplexity are the proof.

I'm sure they're probably on here so maybe will reach out to you directly, but same exact question was just asked over at MAD Society and someone said that they just signed up with Viking and that they just reached out over LinkedIn, and that just emailing/messaging directly is best way to get hooked up with them.

That's all I know but just wanted to share since it just came up over there too

Thanks for letting us know about this! I noticed something strange on our automatic mail-out sequence (fixed now) and for that I sent the email again to the recipients that didn't get their copy.

If someone didn't receive their copy of the report, please drop me a PM with your email address. Thanks
