Intl Dating on 50onRed

Hey guys,

I'm going to be doing a case study on 50onRed, seems like there are already
a few out here, hope mine helps a little too.

Intro

So basically I'm going to be running a whole bunch of Be2 dating campaigns on
50onRed. There are a whole bunch of countries for Be2, and I'm going to start
off with Brazil, and see how I can scale across to other countries.

Sidenote: I just got my agency Facebook account thanks to a buddy of mine
who hooked me up with a rep there (thanks Clement!) so I'm going to be running
a shite load of Facebook traffic to Be2 too; might decide to do a case study for that
too, depending on the response to this one

Ads & Keywords

Alright so there are so many things that makes 50onRed different from other traffic
sources.

For a start throw away the concept of long-tail keywords, it doesn't work here.

I'm going to be targeting REALLY broad, as that's how 50onRed campaigns are
supposed to work; you can't really get traffic at all if your keywords are more
than 1 or 2 words, that's what I learnt from my rep.

During the testing stage I need to be at position one as the traffic distribution
is 85/10/5, very top heavy.

I'm justtesting 300x250 images for a start; just being lazy to write ad copy
here really.

I'm going to be direct-linking to reduce complications; for a start at least.

Bidding Strategy

I'm going to be bidding to be in the #1 position as much as possible, and if the bids
are REALLY high (which I don't foresee) I'll bid to the #2 position.

==========================
Fast-forward about one week~~~
==========================

Here are the conversions:

So I was really stupid and forgot to insert my tracking pixel
for the first 14 conversions so I only knew which were the last
2 keywords that converted:

Yup, "2011" and "continue", which, honestly speaking, were
probably conversions of pure dumb luck.

And here's the spend data:

So there, I'll probably need to spend abit more to gather
more data about converting keywords etc, and I'm wondering
whether I should spend more $$ on this campaign or diversify
some of the $$ on other countries?

What would you guys like to see?

Would love to hear any advice the more experienced guys might
have!

On the other hand, if you have any questions, please ask! If I don't
know the answer I'll go ask my rep, and we'll both learn something.

ADHD Version for running on 50onRed
- Go REALLY BROAD.
- Use their pixel to track.
- Can't treat 50onRed as a conventional traffic source, it's really weird
IMO, so make sure you speak to your rep extensively, or egg me on to
spend more $$ making mistakes for you so you don't follow suit.

Nice case study. But if you're targeting Brazilian traffic, why not target Portuguese keywords?

^ I'd like to know the answer to that as well.

Are you willing to show some of the ads you used?

Is 50onred very steady or unsteady for you?

12-14-2011 06:13 AM #5 epicskillz (Senior Member)

@pancakes yes I'm using Portugese keywords, I should have mentioned
that in the post, thanks for reminding me. Not that may impressions
for the portugese kws though, and zero conversions.

Here's my spend from 7th Dec to 12th Dec, supposedly after my tracking
is all in place.

And here are my earnings for that time period.

So it seems like my summary for the last 6 days period
was:

Spend: $15.90
Earnings: $37.96
Profit: $22
ROI: 138% wtf?

Funny thing is I was logging in to this campaign to pause it
actually, and noticed the larger number of converting keywords.

I might decide to just let it run for $300 and see how it goes.

@jroes57 unsteady for sure! I'm still in the beginning testing
stages though so let's see how it goes.

I'm ramping up the budget a little though.

@jordan I'll consider showing the ads at the end of the case
study!

Oh yes just a quick post about my creatives.

Split testing creatives in 50onRed is quite a PITA as
each campaign allows only ONE creative.

So I have 3 camps out there with one creative each for
this "campaign".

Creative 1 has 6 conversions.
Creative 2 has 4 conversions.
Creative 3 has 3 conversions.

I allocated $20 per day per camp, today I'm ramping it up
to $50 per day for a total of $150.

I had a dating campaign there converting last month, but then died this month.

I think every case study I've read on this forum about 50onRed has been a barely break even campaign or a loser...

12-17-2011 06:20 AM #9 drak (Member)

From what I've been hearing 50onRed kinda went down hill a while back, then again the guys making money aren't gonna be out there singing its praises.
I just signed up so I guess I'll throw some money at it and see for myself.

12-19-2011 09:40 AM #10 epicskillz (Senior Member)

@jroes57 yeah I just checked my stats, I think this campaign is dying too lol.

@azbk11 yeah you're right, it's a relatively new traffic source and many of us
are still picking up the ropes so take from it what you can.

@drak definitely, the ones making money with it are probably killing it quietly,
I know I wouldn't be posting my profitable campaigns up here if they're still
running Throw some money at it yet, see if it works out for you and let us
know man.

I've paused the campaign, going to tidy up the stats and post up a summary,
see if I want to try another spin.

Secret to 50onRed at the moment is go broad and have tons tons tons of keywords + deep pockets to fund optimisation. Therefore go after markets with offers that last for a while. Dont try email sub as they have bombed for me in the past.

12-19-2011 02:32 PM #12 krueger (Member)

I probably saw your ads for Be2 running on my personal facebook account LOL... How is it going, profitable by any chance? If you want some help with grammar for your ad copy, hit me up!

How is 50onred adware/software called?

12-20-2011 09:03 PM #14 jroes57 (Member)

Tjin,

How big of a budget is deep pockets? Cause Ive been going broad and trimming as I go along, but I cannot get steady results for the life of me.

12-20-2011 09:59 PM #15 andy_d (Veteran Member)

50 on Red traffic is hit or miss IMHO, very unstable source, the toolbars they use must come across as very spammy.. I'm assuming only very-well branded ads would be the way to go if you were looking to build some trust in the end user before they click.. I'll be doing some more tests this week as soon as I get approved for some offers that I want to try

12-21-2011 09:10 AM #16 epicskillz (Senior Member)

@tjin completely agree man; offers must appeal to a REEEEEALLY broad
crowd and be more or less evergreen.

@krueger still in the midst of creating a gigantic spreadsheet of all the adcopy
plus combinations etc, will be uploading the campaigns very soon!

@grikis traffic comes from toolbars.

@jroes57 I'd love to know the answer to that too. The reason I haven't
trimmed anything is because I don't see the move being profitable
as it just seems to come down to pure dumb luck.

@andy_d would love to see the results of your tests!

What I've learnt from this case study is that 50onRed should
probably change their name to BROAD Network.

It's very different from other traffic sources I've used with
success.

I'd say dating was probably too niched (not everyone's looking
for love), I have a feeling if I try something way broader..

Something that everybody wants and cannot get enough of..

Like.. Money.. *Cough* biz opps *cough*

I should be able to get this traffic source profitable.

Alright, so this has been another failure on 50onRed but like
other case studies, take from it what you will, put your own
spin on it and go make some monies!
