YouTube as eCom User Acquisition Channel
Hi guys!
I can see more and more direct-response advertisers are using YouTube. When I checked them with tools like Similarweb it's obvious they are pushing a significant amount of traffic from YT.
Here are a few interesting facts about YT that's motivates me to figure this out!
- YouTube's monthly user number is nearing that of Facebook, the world's largest platform, which has over 2 billion users.
- YouTube is now pulling in over 1.8 billion users every month — and that's just the people who are logged in.
- YouTube is Google's most popular service, with even more users than Gmail.
- On mobile alone, YouTube reaches more 18-49 year-olds than any broadcast or CABLE TV network
- The platform has also launched in over 88 countries
I could not find any solid thread on the forum with some great content regarding this huge network, so I hope this one will become one of them.
In the next few weeks I will test different YT formats and video types and see what kind of traffic will I get and at what price.
#####
1. Targeting
I'm already running GDN campaign with topic targeting and under placements tab I can find different YT channels where our ads are shown.
For start I will try to build a "whitelist" campaign with YT channels that are relevant for my niche.
2. Retargeting
In case that I can acquire video views for cheap, this means I can build audience list for retargeting and try to convert them with RLSA/GDN ads.
#####
Do we have any marketers here using YT as their UA channel?
Do you recommend anyone to follow that's sharing valuable content for YT advertising?
I hope that more marketers chime in and share some tips and tricks.
A few useful links that I found lately.

I never used ads, but made how-to videos related to our products.
Positive results: plenty of enquiries and sales, few million views, few thousand subscribers and we're seen as the leading brand in our niche
Negative: plenty of people think they're entitled to free support, takes time and hard to stay consistent in production (especially when as the business grows)
It's slightly off topic, but still think it's worthwhile pointing out the option of producing videos as an acquisition channel.
At the minimum, create unboxing videos for your own products. Easy to produce and a good opportunity to reduce the anxiety people have when buying.
