Best video format for quality and memory saving ?

I have a number of videos that are motion screen captures of webnairs.

the file size is HUGE. like 1-2GB as .avi format

I was wondering if there are other formats I can convert these to that will keep the quality and save space. I want to still be able to read print from the PPT slides that are shown during presentations.

Any insight gang ?

I would try .mp4...I have had good success with that

Use Handbrake and do a simple encode to high quality h264, resize down to 720p if needed.
