Hi all,
Over the past 2 years we've had a massive issue with our content being ripped. It seems to be getting much worse lately. We write all our content from scratch. Images are done by our team and we spend/invest/risk our own thousands testing this content in the first weeks. Then, once we optimise a bit, and begin to run just a handful of funnels, everything divebombs. It has got to the point now where it is only our content being used on numerous ecom offers. Even more annoying is when I'm browsing a website and see our ads displayed, but its just a copycat! Within 2-3 weeks our content is copied, exactly (or very closely) 10+ times on the traffic sources we use.
Now I'm not talking about a banner, or occasional LP being ripped from time to time, I mean full funnel, front to back on the same traffic sources and geos. Some even keep our logos. This is a massive blow for us as with just 3-4 of these guys in our space the traffic quickly becomes unprofitable and way inflated, plus we can no longer test as the traffic isn't there.
I expect all the cliched answers "its the nature of the game", "find another traffic source", "innovate with new banners (they are stealing daily)" etc, but with spy tools being so good now you really can't escape or make anything last longer than a month. It's the injustice of the work and skill and money and risk and everything else we put in, just to watch helplessly as other lazy fuckers profit off of the back of us.
We're contacting all our traffic sources to try and get some protection of sorts but not sure they're interested.
So, now you know our sob story, does anyone know any tried and tested solutions to protecting and defending your work?
There is no technical or administrative solution to this, if anyone claims that, he is just trying to sell you their service.
By the time protective measures kick in, the creatives are scorched to the earth and lose performance.
You have basically just 2 options:
1) Outbrand them
2) Outscale them
Not sure if 1) is viable for you.. I dont know what kind of ecommerce you run.. if is clothing its easier, if its gadgets.. its much harder,
but some people still manage to do it. It is easier if you have a unique design.. eg custom plastic mold from chinese, while the stuff inside is essentialy the same
(you need to go beyond packaing). That desing you could actually protect effectively.
2) Is a race to the bottom.. you need to optimize all parts of your production, more creatives, more scaling, faster scaling..
Hard, but if you manage it.. its rewarding.
Sorry man to hear that. .but the world does in 99% of the cases not reward the inventor,
it rewards the scaler. Both for small companies or giant corporations.
Its even in the bible.
He who has scaled, shall reap the profits.
He who has invented, behold the rape of your goat.
Pretty much as we thought and planned!
1) Working on it as we speak
2) The great Ecom traffic war is about to commence... and there will be casualties.
P.s. might even give the bible a read if gems like that are in its pages
