How many of you focus on organic social media outreach (e.g. FB Business Pages, Instagram posts, Twitter updates, etc) for affiliate marketing? How about outside of affiliate marketing (i.e. helping a friend's business)?
I assume most everyone here is pushing paid traffic from FB, myself included.
Still, just yesterday I spoke with a friend who owns a local manufacturing company and is looking for digital marketing services. He's had several proposals from companies in the area and it seems most are offering a package of the following:
- X amount of FB Business page posts a month
- X amount of IG posts a month
- X amount of Blog posts a month
I'm wondering are these still effective lead generation methods in 2018 (since FB changed their newsfeed algorithm), or are they now simply for increasing brand trust and presence online?
I've read about content marketing funnels with blog posts -- is that different from what some of these digital marketing companies are offering? I tend to think blog posts only when I hear content marketing.
AMers have a unique perspective on marketing, curious to hear from you all.
It all depends on the price and what your friend wants to achieve, but I would say that normally, that will be a very slow and hard slog ...
Honestly I think organic social media by itself is very risky. It can be a good supplement to build a community around your paid ads, but solo I do not like it.
Over the past few years I have grown hundreds of thousands of likes on facebook, then followers on twitter, then followers on instagram, just to have algorithms and money hungry companies limit the reach of my accounts.
It's still possible to make money organically, but if it's bad now it is only going to get worse.
Great points, thank you cmdeal and jordans!
It sounds like on it's own it's not a reliable method of lead gen...
Is it fair to say the only realistic/reliable goal for organic social media in 2018 is to increase brand trust online/raise online presence?
Depends on the value of the content ofcourse. But yes it’s harder than before.
I'm not a huge fan of it either - I think it should be mostly something done for the super-long run and without too much extra effort because the results won't come quickly either.
You also are putting your content on the social media platforms in hopes they won't change their minds about many things... Which they do, all the time, as Facebook has most recently shown over the past 5-7 years. Organic reach for businesses is extremely low.
What it does help with is to position your product/service/brand as a leader in the niche over a few years I think.
Oh, and getting people from social media to your website and email list is a must too - just my 2 cents. That's how you create a more authentic, direct connection.
I am using Facebook groups for free traffic and have a good success!
