I'm wondering what the suggested SSL pop hosting recommendations are?
I'm currently buying about 0.5M impressions per day, 3/4 in Europe, 1/4 RoW (no USA traffic).
For campaigns targetting Europe, I use a Hetzner VPS for around 60$/month. But I never really understood their backend (seems like you must have a PhD in computer science to me). The landers are running, but I want to switch my LPs to SSL and I don't think it can be easily done there.
For campaigns targetting countries outside of Europe, I use AWS Cloudfront. I know SSL can work there (did a test about 2 years ago, but CVR was worse at that time). I don't want to switch all of my hosting to AWS because AWS is much more expensive than a VPS.
So where should I host my LPs for worldwide campaigns? running on SSL sites?
- Should I use something like VPS Hosting at BeyondHosting or Liquidweb and use their Cloud solution?
- Or get CloudFlare on top of the VPS hosting? And would the CloudFlare free plan be enough?
- Or should I use AWS in conjunction with CloudFlare (and possibly pay only a fraction of the traffic costs I'm currently paying)?
Thanks for your recommendation...!
Why do you pay $60 on Hetzner for a VPS?
I have a dedicated server from Hetzner myself.
I use the server for my tracker and my landers for worldwide campaigns and only pay about €40 or €45.
About SSL, on Cloudflare you can get free CDN and free SSL for your landing page domains.
A dedicated server at Hetzner sounded too complacated to me, I'm not a network engineer. But even their managed server is complicated. It costs about 50 €, so about 60$/month.
So you say I could host my pages anywhere because I can get free CDN/SSL from Cloudflare (and therefore all but the first visitor from a caching region would see the Cloudflare cached LP?
I used to host LPs for POPs on rackspace CDN (cloud files), I've been sending couple millions hits to them and the cost was like $2 a month
Depends on how graphic heavy they are, but it can be very cheap.
Just keep in mind CDNs are only good for hosting static content, so no server-side scripts like php for example.
Ok, it seems like Amazon Cloudfront is pretty expensive.
And Rackspace seems pretty expensive too; they charge about 0.1$/GB bandwidth. So 1 milliion visits with 500kB LP size cost 50$.
So one option for pop hosting is just an own server (dedicated or VPS) + free Cloudflare? I just wonder why they give their CDN away for free?
Yeah just use Cloudflare to enable SSL or enable SSL with Letsencrypt for free in any VPS like DigitalOcean.
Also, isn’t Hetzner a managed solution? If so you should be able to contact support and ask them for enable SSL for you.

Yes I have a managed server at Hetzner, just their backend was designed in the early 1990s and support was short-spoken the one time I had contacted them.
But if I get Cloudflare to work with Hetzner, I'll keep the server there.
I'm just wondering how it's possible that I can use the Cloudflare CDN, send them 0.5M visits per day and get this for free while with Rakspace CDN it could cost >1000$/month (depending on LP size)...
