Emailpapa.com

Came across these guys and looking for someone to setup email servers for us.

Has anyone heard of or used emailpapa.com?

There are so many similar such services. They are either focused on deliverability or DIY.

If you have 1st gen internal data or HIGH quality, best to go for managed SMTP/mail such as mailgun, sendgrid, elastic.
It will be less headache in the long run. These services usually have good ip and provide a shared IP initially with option for
a dedicated IP.

With DIY, they usually focus on more IPs. It is best for external purchased data such as coreg or cold mailings.
This is because using such with managed SMTP may result in termination due to higher than normal sending
metrics such as: complaints, bounces, low or no engagement, etc...

DIY is also good moving from managed SMTP and carrying over repuation via domain reputation.
This can decrease cost but increase technical requirements and management.

So im sure emailpapa would be alright, just depending on the data you will be using with it.

If you are looking to build internal email server, I suggest PowerMTA or, MailerQ or GreenArrow
Also, the data center is important because if their IPs were used for spam in the past, then its useless.
IP reputation now includes ASN reputation (IP networks).

Thanks russomar for that detailed reply.

All of my data for my main campaign is optin, it just in a regulated vertical which most ESPs don't want to deal with. I'm playing with fire right now with GetResponse and Aweber.

I've looked at Sendgrid, my understanding is I'd need some software to setup autoresponders and some basic automation. I've been scouring the forums and seen a few similar apps pop up, interspire, mailwizz and Mumara.

Which one would you recommend with Sendgrid?

I also have a list which is non optin (around 40k), but very related to my vertical. I don't want to just blast them, so the plan is to push them to the optin for the main list ... I think I'll run with a service like emailpapa on that.

Who would you recommend in for this particular campaign?

Your plan with sendgrid seems solid. Check out mailgun as well as alternative to sendgrid.

I have license for both mumara and mailwizz. Both are good campaign manager.
They both work well with API and SMTP mailing.
I prefer mailwizz because of simplicity, effectiveness and ability to use API.
That effectively strips the source server from the mail header, which protects the campaign server (your list and stats).

There are others such as robomail, volomp, datamcp, deliverability agent, etc....

Since your vertical may be sensitive to some ESP, it is probably best to host your data in-house.
There has been many instances where ESP shuts down an account and locks out data with it.
So here is where mumara, mailwizz and the like shines.

So for main data something like:

ESP such as aweber or getresponse (affiliate friendly ESP) = managed data & mail

OR

campaign manager + sendgrid/mailgun = inhouse data , managed mail (for your situation IMHO is this)

OR

campaign manager + PMTA = inhouse data , inhouse mail (more complex and initial cost)

For your external data (non optin / cold mails):

Bulk email ESPs such as: sendviper, bulkresponse, emailpapa (that you mentioned) and other similar DIY IP focused

OR

campaign manager + PMTA = inhouse data , inhouse mail (more complex and initial cost)

OR

vps/dedi + php mail or mailwizz in local mode (sendmail/postfix)

NOTE:
I am not associated with any of the company or products mentioned above.
I have used some either currently or in the past.

I'm not too worried about loss of data since we have our own DB which stores the emails first, and then posts to GetResponse via API.

Anyways, thanks, you've cleared it up for me. I'll clean that list and hit up some bulk email ESPs.
