Manual for cleaning up meta-data of Facebook promos
The creatives previously observed for suspicious activity in FB can become one of the reasons for banning the Ads Manager. In other words, you were using a promo approved by moderation, and it was bringing leads. At one point, the Ads Manager receives a ban, and that could occur for many reasons: a coincidence in a series of indicators, some suspicious activity, multiple complaints on the promo or the downloading of banned materials in this Ads Manager. The publication of this creative without any changes in another Ads Manager leads to an immediate ban or rejection of the promo by moderation.
This also happens when you take promos from spy-tools and do not change anything in them: a creative could have been used by dozens of other affiliates, and we can only guess what kind of history it has in FB system.
How Facebook perceives promotional materials
Everything you share with Facebook comes to it as metadata. When you upload a creative, it can't visually accept this image as a similar one to what was used by another user and got banned. The system receives metadata and concludes from it whether the material is banned or not.
Yes, there is a recognition system that does not allow the pictures “before and after” and adult materials, so this information refers to the creatives that were initially moderated.
How to clean creatives in FB
Many offer applying a filter, cropping the image or rotating. However, this is not always enough, because this kind of alteration does not edit all metadata but only part of it.
Removing metadata with XnView
To completely delete the metadata and optionally set a new one, you can use the program XnView. It is free and available for both Windows and Mac. The advantages of this program are available batch processing and template creation.
To delete image metadata, select it in the “Browser”.
Next, in the “Tools” tab, select “Metadata” — “Clean”.
Select the metadata that you want to delete (by default, all are selected), and click “OK”.
After that, you will see that part of the metadata has been deleted; there remain only those that refer to the technical data of the image (extension, type, width, height).
You can also use a batch processing tool to edit multiple images at once by applying a number of actions to them. To do this, select the image, go to the “Tools” tab, and select “Batch convert”.
In the window that opens, you can do the following:
- Select a folder to edit images or multiple images at once
- Add multiple actions you want to perform on the images. For example, remove metadata, adjust brightness, and add filters or text.
- Configure the export of image: set name, date of editing, save new metadata (which may be useful as you will get a new unique image)
- Set additional settings.
Then click the “Convert” button and look for the image in the export folder.
To use these settings again, click the “Save” icon at the bottom of the window.
Next time you will be able to choose a template and will not need to configure processing and uniqualization again.
This is the analogue for removing metadata online: https://www.imgonline.com.ua/delete-exif.php. Here you can upload an image or video and delete its metadata without changing the quality.
Summary
Thus, cleaning up meta-data of promos includes not only changing the image, but also removing metadata. Applying a filter may be enough, but not always: the original metadata of your image may be complete, thus the system will recognize the material and therefore, block the account.
Fast removal of metadata will work not to make a new creative from scratch, but to upload the one that has already brought profit. You can create several templates to uniqualize the image and run it through the program every time before uploading the creative to a new Ads Manager. This will save from bans on all the Ads Managers with this promo, if one of them proves blocked.
