Hidden gems in POP (10)

It´s pretty easy to discover such zones on Propeller Ads.
Run smart CPA campaigns, go to Dashboard, edit fixed rates for the zones where you received traffic and you can see the max bid for the zones.
Mostly you can say the higher the max bid the higher the quality.

Oh, it can definitely get higher than that
On pops/redirect I've paid like $20-70 CPM in some profitable placements.
Every traffic source has their own gems.

Just be careful with propeller. I am currently in the middle of a dispute. Had a sudden surge of traffic last weekend from two zones in a SmartCPA campaign, that resulted in a ton of conversions. (Browser Extension offer). Pretty much for every 10-15 impressions 1 conversion, which for anyone who is familiar with pop and normal conversion rates, is rather ridiculous. As expected received an angry email from my AM with advertiser requesting a chargeback of almost $1k. I have submitted a trouble ticket to propeller team a few days ago now and still have not been contacted back after being told that their tech team will investigate. There isn't much to investigate, in my opinion, since they even excluded one of the fraudulent siteids themselves (you can see it in a screenshot). Just a heads up to everyone. Be careful. I will keep updated, and if not resolution takes place by next week will make a separate thread with all the proof and information.

I have noticed some zones on PropellerAds as well with conversion every ~20 clicks as well, never seen something like this before. It has started from the last weekend. Please let me know when you get the news from propellerads.

Hoping I won't face the same issue.

Very good topic and a ton of valuable advice from all!

I've had the experience of paying over $0.10 per impression in the past (i.e. $100+ CPM) for high-quality traffic that was worth the price. This is easy to do on a site like Zeropark which allows bidding on the placement level. On other networks this can be done through whitelisting - which can work well - when it WORKS.

Or you can run a blacklist camp with all the bigger of the unprofitable placements (at that high bid) blacklisted. For blacklist camps though, as someone pointed out above, it's a risk when new placements would pop up (no pun intended) to zap your budget while you're sleeping. It would be great to use an automatic placement cutting tool to cut these (e.g. theoptimizer) so you can sleep at night. Been caught too many times in the past.

While Pop traffic still has its potential (especially with the actual low competition), one has to be really careful when it comes to certain performance patterns as it it may end up getting into quality issues and not get paid. There are already several forum posts on this topic and not limited to Pop traffic only.

Just consider all those high volume publishers that used to sell thousands or millions of daily impressions a few months ago. They have to find new ways to keep their traffic interesting for advertisers in order to generate revenue. So besides simply delivering impressions they need to generate clicks, fill out lead forms, download apps, etc - in short have bots take care of this.

Here are a few things that can help preventing unwanted situations:

- Always use landers in order to get a better understanding on the traffic you are buying.
- Aggressively cut extremely high ctr placements
- High % Converting placements - better pause a placement and verify quality if above a certain threshold rather then keep it going and not get paid.
- High % Converting Providers - if most of the conversions are coming from small local ISPs, odds are bots are converting.

haven't thought about this.... this is really valuable information and makes so much sense now, thanks a lot!

I have a new case now with another traffic source, where i have few placements that convert insanely well, and the bids are super cheap (pity the volume is low though)
I've checked with the network regarding the quality of those sales to make sure advertiser has no complains

I actually think this is not really a pop traffic (even though sold as pop), but in app traffic, where the app generates the subs, especially with 1/2 click flow offers

There are gems like this in pretty much every network, but usually the volume is pretty low in case it's real traffic. Guys above me are very right about the possible quality problems, so make sure you check with your AM on a repetitive basis ... some are getting quite picky lately.

And you are right about POP traffic not always being just POPs, there are redirects in the mix, quite a lot of adult traffic without being labeled that way etc ...
