Hey Guys,
I just finished eCommerce Evolved by Tanner Larsson, and in the book, he goes through an extensive process of audience/competitor diligence BEFORE even testing demand to a mock-product/"out of stock" product funnel. For audiences the tools he suggests include Alexa, Similarweb, and FB insights. For Competitor keywords/ads/traffic and reverse engineering he recommends WordRecon, SEMrush, Alexa, BuzzSumo, Whatrunswhere, and Similarweb. (I know some of these are mentioned twice).
All of these together would cost well north of $1,000, so I want to ask you guys which ones give you the most bang for your buck (let's say your budget was $200-300 a month). I've also heard Spyfu, Adplexity native, and a few others thrown around. These would all be used BEFORE I build my mock funnel, so I know which competitors to actually model my funnels/advertisements off of (the ones that are doing successful campaigns).
Keep in mind that this is less for burning and churning products and more for selling 1-2 products legitimately via a funnel based eCommerce store. I'm asking because there have been times in the past where I've tested demand after building a funnel, only to find that there is none (and the process took me a lot of time that I won't recover lol).
Cheers,
$Train
Hi $Train,
Since most eCommerce campaigns right now are ran on social, using a social ad spy tool would make more sense than a native one.
On that note, I would like to point out that Social Ad Scout makes it extremely easy to filter eCommerce ads:

Plus, we are the only social ad spy tool that offers all of the following:
✔ Both desktop and mobile coverage!
✔ Exact targeting details (not just who "saw" the ad). We can let you know if an eCommerce advertiser is targeting specific interests!
✔ Every ad type possible. As a simple example, you won't find carousel ads on any other product
I genuinely feel Social Ad Scout would provide a lot more value than most of the tools you mentioned.
Better yet, I have enabled the coupon "ECOM20" to reduce the price to just $127/month for the first 10 people that use it.
AdPlexity Ecommerce will also include FB ads (newsfeed) by the end of this week.
I guarantee you it will have more data than any other spy tool (including ones for FB).
Feel free to check out http://follow.net as well. It's a free browser extension that aggregates multiple tools into one convenient report (semrush, alexa, adbeat, keywordspy and more)
PS: Follow is always on the lookout for data partners (especially for eCommerce) looking for exposure from almost 18K marketers who use the competitive intelligence extension. We basically give them a taste of the data, and send them your way for the full results. If you'd like to connect with the integration team please ping me. nana@ follow.net
Moneytrain - Any chance you can just do a quick test to gauge demand before building out the whole funnel?

Granted, a short product page won't squeeze out as much profits as a well designed and built out funnel can. But it should still give you an idea. Then you can just take the ones that look promising and spend the time building out full funnels for them.
You can always reinvest profits into more of those intelligence tools later on. In the meantime perhaps just get 1-2 of the less expensive ones to play with.

Thanks Amy, I decided to go with SEMrush, Alexa, and the free version of Similarweb to begin with.
I'll do a bit of spying on my competitors, put together a funnel buildr page and store, then run some test-traffic!
Adplexity eCommerce is the best to go for!
However if you're looking for free stuff where you have to match data among different tools manually, then the below link should help you on generating a good list of
