So yeah, the big question is what are the best affiliate marketing verticals/campaigns to start with as a newbie on Facebook. Ideally you would say go for a white hat approach so you have to worry less about losing your account. On the other hand, white hat campaigns (and thereby a white hat approach regarding ads/text) are harder to convert and thereby not so easy to make them profitable. Since you are a newbie, it's also likely you have a limited budget.
White hat vs. black hat
Black hat campaigns in general have a more agressive sales approach, with pages which are full optimized, which makes them easier to convert. Not only it will get you into green faster, also just the feeling of having some conversions already gives you a boost of trust and confidence.
First, let's breakdown some possible white verticals to run;
- ecommerce (could be Zalando, could be gadgets like the flashlights etc)
- insurances/finance (funeral, mortgages, loans)
- travel (booking.com, travel agencies, niche trips)
- automotive (testdrives)
- charity (finding donors for Greenpeace, WNF etc) - one of the biggest performance lead gen companies in the world is going big on this
- tech/it (hosting/domain providers, cloud solutions, software, add-ons, utilities)
Not only are the ads and landers in these verticals less agressive, if you run a brand like Zalando or a funeral insurance offer, you often have loads of restrictions when it comes to usage of wordings and images. This forces you to become very creative and makes a bit harder to find and test multiple angles and creatives.
If we breakdown the black hat campaigns, the following verticals are most common;
- casino/bingo/lottery
- nutra/health/beauty (diet pills, male enhancement, skin care, slim tea)
- forex/binary
- crypto
- sweepstakes (lead gen and pin submits)
Even if you choose a white hat campaign you can do a black hat approach within your creatives and text, this obviously means you will get banned eventually even though you run a white hat offer. Contrary to this you can run a black hat campaign without any problems, if your approach is white hat and doesn't violate the Facebook policies.
When it comes to choosing a campaign or vertical make sure you have affinity, passion and/or at least some knowledge about it. This will certainly help you to keep motivated, but also to beat any competition. Inside information, unique content, specific wordings/slang are just some examples of factors which make you stand out from the rest.
Pro's and con's white hat campaigns;
- landing pages in general are weak, not fully optimized
- some brands/verticals come with restrictions regarding creatives and text
- margins are often not so high
- campaigns last longer, so more time/room to optimize and scale
- trustworthyness, shady advertisers who scrub or don't pay are less likely to appear
- (almost) no headache when it comes to account bans
- karma points, yes some people really find this important
Pro's and con's black hat campaigns;
- loads of shady advertisers which scrub/dissapprove sales or don't even pay and dissappear
- keeping your FB account live is a thing which you have to face daily
- no karma points for you, people often complain and most verticals are misleading
- short term business, mainly because accounts go down, advertisers stop, geo's go down etc
- high margins, so in short time you can cash big time
- creativity can be exploited fully, some guys are really pulling of some amazing funnels
- it converts well, so making some money with little knowledge is quite easy
Good campaigns?
No matter which side you gonna choose, black or white, you want to know upfront if the campaign even makes a chance to succeed. But how do I know?
- always ask your AM for best converting campaigns, relevant to FB traffic
- check the flow/page/conversion points yourself and test it. Does it feel trustworthy and natural? Everything working? Enough payment methods etc etc...
- SPY! Although I hate it big time, spying can be helpful to have a view of what's working, on prelander and campaign level
- network, talk, ask, observe and see what others are running at the moment via STM and other sources maybe

Thanks for the good content!
Would you be able to share a brief overview of how are people usually running casino? I mean, I know it requires cloaking and a lot of accounts, etc. But what's the style of creatives/landers for this vertical on FB? Thanks!!
What do you suggest a FB-newbie should start with? Black or White or 'it don't matter if you're black or white?' (MJ
)
I am gonna start my FB-newbie-FA soon anyway as I started with a quite specific whitehat campaign (Clickbank offer of all places) to get a feel for the ads manager etc. Next to that I would like to start a few lower-payout CPA campaigns as well.
Thx!
Your posts are clearing a lot of confusion I had, loving these, once again much appreciated!!!!
