Offer Page Download Speed for Real User

Hello guys,

I'm running an offer for Palestinian Territories and have a group of questions regarding offer download speed for real user.
Here is what I have:
- traffic source Propellerads
- aff network Mobidea
- tracker Binom (self-hosted on Hetzner, server location Falkenstein, Germany)
- I run offer direct linked as advertiser does not allow to use LPs, connection is cellular

I made some speed tests using https://www.webpagetest.org/
I set up some advanced settings for the test, here they are:
- I chose test location as Israel, as https://www.webpagetest.org/ does not have Palestinian Territories in it's Test Location menu, so Israel is the closest location to Palestinian Territories
- I chose browser as Chrome, as it is the most popular browser around the world and according to my stats in tracker almost more than a half of traffic and conversions were from this browser
- I chose connection as 3g (1.6 Mbps/768 Kbps 300 ms RTT) as I read that in Palestinian Territories cellular connection speed not really fast, their cellular provider just recently implemented 3g standard

Here are tests what I did:
1) first I tested my tracking link on which I send traffic from Propellerads.
Results: load time is 14.3 seconds, which is horrible

2) then I decided to test link direct offer link from Mobidea.
Results:load time 13.4 seconds, the same as without redirect from my tracker

3) also I decided to test my tracker's domain, just in case.
Results: load time 5.1 seconds, also not good at all. But I have no idea what decision should I make from this test, according to 2 previous tests results.

My question is how can I improve download speed for user as much as possible for direct linked offers?
Maybe I should establish CDN for my tracker's domain? But according to my tests, redirect from tracker to offer's page does not affect at all on download speed.

I understand that I can't fully affect on offer download speed, because Mobidea and offer's owner (advertiser) are in charge of it, but I can affect on redirect from my tracker to offer's page.

Also, is my overall idea of speed testing correct? Maybe I'm missing something or even thinking in completely wrong direction?

Thank you in advance for all your answers and attention to my thread.

14 seconds is horrible indeed, even 5 secs are already bad enough.

But you are right, there is not much to optimize when the offers themselves load slow.

Have you tried other testing services ... pingdom for example : https://tools.pingdom.com/

Try to test several websites, for example those that you KNOW are optimized to death ... like google for example or some local pages, it's possible that the webpagetest is simply showing BS info.

Update : just tested one of my optimized landers on https://www.webpagetest.org/ and the result was 31 seconds ) Somethings is not right with that service ...

Thank you for your answer.
I checked https://tools.pingdom.com/ but unfortunately it has only several locations to test from, all are in tier1 countries and has no option to emulate connection type. Anyway I tried it and got much better results.
But what should be general approach in optimising speed for direct linked offers? As there are a lot of things I can't affect on, like offer download speed and user connection speed.
So should I just improve what I can improve and hope for the best? What is your approach in such situations?

With directlinking, there are not many options really ... just make sure your tracker run's fast and that's about it. In some cases, depending on the networks, you can also skip tracker completely and rely on the data that you see in the networks ... you can send the postback directly to some traffic sources and optimize there.

But anyways, directlinking is very unlikely to make you any profit these days, so you will need to focus on using landing pages. Which opens more options to optimize the speed ... you might want to start using some DNS or a virtual server closer to your target destination.

What is your approach in such situations?
I optimize my part ... fast servers, fast tracker and that's about it, I'm running banners mostly, so the speed problem isnt as big as with POP traffic. Then it's up to the network and advertiser, if their offers aren't optimized enough, I will move to different ones.
