Hello again everyone, I took a few days off so I wasn't posting much in the past 2 weeks, but back now again and ready to roll
How is everyone spending this years summer season? Traveling a lot, working or ... ?
I took a bit different approach this time as summer is extremely hot this year, we're regularly crossing 35 Celsius and that's absolutely not normal in my part of the world. So instead of getting my ass on some beach where it's even more hotter and spend most of the day in some heavy AC room in order to survive, I came up with a different plan
Have to admit it has a bit to do with the simple fact, that I hate how much time kids are spending at their computers, tablets or phones, all they do is click and tap and they miss all the skills we had at their age ... like making a fire for example
So together with a bunch of friends from a nearby village, we've set a plan to take our kids of their virtual reality and confront them with the real world ... in the middle age style
These friends happen to be hunters and their hunting club has an old cottage in the woods ... 10 km deep in the forest, away from any other house ... no electricity (just one solar panel to power weak lights and one small fridge), no water installation (just a well) and a dry pail-closet outside of the cottage just at the edge of the forest
As you can guess, our better halves (read wives) refused to take part in this experiment so it was just a Men+Kids adventure... the final count : 6 adults and 12 kids (ages 6 - 14).
I got the role of the cook, so nobody dies of hunger ... we got stocked nicely (lots of beer included to maintain solid fluid intake and preserve ourselves from getting mad at times with so many screaming kids around
and it was time to go ... we've set the target to 3 nights ... staying longer without proper hygiene would be dangerous ... cleaning yourself in ice cold water isn't the best idea to be honest
To sum it up :
- everyone survived !
- didn't see so many fucking blood thirsty ticks in ages, the record was 11 pieces on the youngest girl in the team ... applying repellent three times a day helped to win the battle
- we walked many KMs and all the kids made it without problems
- kids found out it's actually fun to build shelters, make fire, and prepare bacon or sausages on it
- that pail closet was a problem, especially at night when kids are scared to leave the cottage on their own ... don't even know how many times they woke me at night to take them there
All in all, this was a great experience and kids actually loved it ... think they would of stayed longer but the call of a hot bathtub or proper shower was to strong
I think we should make this a tradition with the guys and return again next year
Here are some pics for you :

No fridge, no problem ... cold water from the well will do the trick

Shelter #1, made by the younder kids ...

And Shelter #2, the young boy is sitting inside of it, it was pretty large ...

Dinner in the making ... does it get more "classic" than this?

Bigger part of the gang eating lunch served by Matuloo
Chicken legs + potatoes = killer combination

Air guns shooting range, empty beer cans served as the ultimate targets ... 1500+ shots fired and kids (especially boys) loved it

Water pistols proved to be another great idea ... we had to dry the clothes pretty much twice a day

There was a small water stream nearby, so we caught a few of these little guys
You can see my "ultimate" goulash maker in the background ... made a wild boar one on the next day.

Off to the hills again
We got caught by heavy rain on this day, so had to run back quickly to find some shelter.

And to wrap it up, we went fishing for one more night and slept in a small tent ...
So how about you guys, do you like things like this, or is it all about luxury for you?
Matej.
So I wouldn't mention my stay at the W Hotel Barcelona then, but this is what life is all about if it's me. It sucks I grew up in a society were it's all about the money, but one day I sell everything and fly to an island with my girl with a bag of weed and some money to live remote and have no media at all.
And it was funny to watch them how lost they felt without all the civilization hacks they were used to
)
Looks like a lot of fun, Matej!
This is real life, wish more people would do the same these days!
very cool!!!!!!!!!
In some country it was a luxury to have a forest nearby, and also illegal with guns.
surely it was good to health in such a place, more fresh air, and sleep better. for me it was better than live in city ;-)
Hi Matuloo,
great post. I've two kids in similar age, and we went camping in Canada this year to give them some "real live" feeling. After a few days it was big fun for them, seeing so many animals, go fishing, doing campfires and so on.
But the Moskitos were a pain there, too.
Looks like fun! And welcome back!

Awesome Matuloo, you're such a well rounded man love this stuff!
Connecting back with nature is always surprisingly super recharging, especially days spent in the sunshine!
Happy you had such a great experience with your family and friends, the boards missed ya! <3
