So I'm trying to get my optimization game right, and I feel like Im missing a step somewhere.
So take for example a campaign Im running. Steps I've taken so far:
1. Test several offers, find best offer.
2. Test several landing pages with several of the best offer's tour pages.
3. Find best landing page / offer page combo.
At this point I've found the best LP/Offer combo from what I've tested and I'm roughly break even. What are you testing next?
Landing page headlines?
Landing page images?
More banners?
Different angle?
Curious at this point what you would do at this stage to build upon the progress made so far.
Thank you in advance.
I would test radically different angles, pictures, and if you can, devices/geos.
You optimized the middle and end of the funnel but there seems to be room to test out a lot at the beginning.
Good question!
I would cut the worst placements at this point. If you find an outstanding offer later on you could always retest those (or not).
Then I would test offers. I find that testing offers tend to have more potential of increasing ROI by larger amounts than testing landers. This is especially true if you don't currently know how to keep your landers out of spy tools - basically you'd be limited to using the same landers everyone else is using. (If you design a lander that looks different than the rest, it would show up in spy tools and stand out - and get ripped immediately.) You could still test variations of your best performing lander (different headlines etc. like you said) and these tweaks CAN result in significant improvements - just maybe not as big of an improvement as a completely new design.
Thus I would suggest to test another batch of offers first.
So then when would you start doing major cutting of placements etc.? I would start doing that if I have an offer+lander combo that is making enough of the traffic profitable. Whether it be a green OS or a bunch of green placements that combine to make good profits per day. Once you see enough green parts, proceed to cut unprofitable parts.
Key here is to make sure there's enough green in the first place, before cutting. Otherwise, no matter of cutting will give you green.
When the camp becomes green overall, you can always test more offers and/or landers. You can run a smaller portion of the traffic to the new stuff and still run most of the traffic to your original offer+lander.
And don't forget to focus on scaling once you have what you feel is a promising camp. For example if the camp is doing 30% ROI or better, I would say scale to as many sources as you have access to.

Thanks for the input guys.
I forgot to mention I'm only on a single placement right now (high volume spot though).
So I can't cut placements to get into the "green".
I'm purely talking about building a fundamentally sound funnel.
Ah I missed the part about "adult" and "banners"! Apologies! Thought it was a pop camp you were referring to.
I haven't done adult in a few years - will wait for matuloo's return. But what I said about the importance of testing offers applies to adult as well: Test more offers to see if you can find a better one. After that, I would test more banners.

Have you ever listened to russel brunsons trainings? This guy is the GOAT when it comes to split testing and funnels. When I was first starting off last year I was running camps on clickfunnels and watched most of his videos. I would highly recommend you look into his stuff about split testing and optimization.
And basically all you said you should test boss.
Put in a countdown timer to add scarcity.
When creating new angles definitely refer back to the life force 8 and the 9 secondaries that make people click that CTA button:
Life force 8:
1. Survival… enjoyment of life… life extension
2. Enjoyment of food and beverages
3. Freedom from fear, pain and danger
4. Sexual companionship
5. Comfortable living conditions
6. To be superior… winning… keeping up with the Jones’
7. Care and protection of loved ones
8. Social approval
“9 Secondary Wants” that are LEARNED, and also important to know:
1. To be informed
2. Curiosity
3. Cleanliness of body and surroundings
4. Efficiency
5. Convenience
6. Dependability/Quality
7. Expression of beauty and style
8. Economy/Profit
9. Bargains
Now if your running a sweep for a iphone pretty sure you wont be using sexual companionship or enjoyment of food hahah but there are some there that can be useful.
If your running antivirus well now you have a pain point. hackers can access your cameras! Your bank account can be hacked!
I keep seeing "you have (8) viruses. Download now"
Like cmon man. make them feel that if they dont download it. They will always have to be extra safe using their phone.
But from before. Russel always said to even test the background color, the text color, size and all.
and the obvious one such as small sentences and words.
Hope Any of this helps to get to that big money!!
best of luck my friend,

Forgot about social proof. It never hurts to have at least 2 "nice" comments about your product.
And it does not have to be the same old same clearly fake facebook comments. actually i've recently seen landers that pull it off very very well. But even the copy in the comments can make a big difference.
When your on amazon about to buy something whats the first thing most people do?
Scroll ALLLLLLL the way down to the comments and see what others have to say.
So trying out different copy on those would be great split tests to try out and see if you can bring up your CR a little.
Seriously I always see the same damn comments on every lander in adplexity. Where is the creativity???
I was always told this by the big guys in marketing. "by changing just a word or 2. It can mean the difference between a losing campaign or a very profitable one"
k now im done...
